Let not your singer become, like a beast at pasture, unpleasing to you, led onto the path of Yama.
Let not far or near destruction, hard to overcome, strike us; may you set us on a path together with water.
Truly, you are fierce and mighty, O Rudra-like ones, even on the plain; you make the rain without wind.
Like a cow, the lightning lows; like a mother, she lets her calf go, when their rain is released.
Even by day they make darkness, with the cloud-bearing Parjanya, when they split the earth apart.
Then, at the roar of the Maruts, all the dwellings upon earth trembled, and people were shaken.
O Maruts, with winnowing hands, you go along the shining, wide spaces with unwearied courses.
May your chariot-wheels be firm, your horses strong, your reins well-fashioned.
With devoted speech, let us address Brahmanaspati for old age, Agni, the radiant friend, as one visible.
Fashion a song from your mouth, as the rain-giver stretches forth; sing the hymn and the chant.
Honor the Marut host, mighty, delightful, shining; may they, grown strong, be near to us.
When, as now, you shine forth from afar like a flame, whose purpose, O Maruts, whose form is it? Whom do you favor, whom do your gifts support?
May your weapons be firm, may they cast down the foe, may they repel the fallen; let your power be most abundant, not subject to the deceit of mortals.
You hurl away what is firm, O men, you set in motion what is heavy; you loosen the forests of the earth, you split the ridges of the mountains.
No enemy has found you out in heaven or on earth, O destroyers; may your power, O Rudras, be with us, yoked with our offspring, now and always.
You make the mountains tremble, you shake the forest trees; you, Maruts, rush forth like intoxicated gods, with all your host.
You yoke the spotted mares to your chariots, the red one draws the pole; even the earth hastens for your coming, and people are filled with fear.
For your swift help, O Rudras, we choose your protection for our offspring; you will surely come to our aid, as before, for Kanva who was afraid.
Whomever you, Maruts, impel, or mortals impel, whoever seeks to harm us—scatter him with your might, with your strength, with your aids.
For you, wise ones, have always given protection to Kanva; with your aids, Maruts, you will come to us like rain and lightning.
You bear unconquered strength, generous ones; your gifts and might are unconquered; O Maruts, hating the foe, shoot forth your arrow at the enemy.
Arise, O Brahmanaspati, we invoke you as divine; let the generous Maruts come near, and Indra, be manifest together with us.
To you alone, son of strength, does the mortal call when seeking wealth; may he who invokes you, Maruts, obtain heroic power and good horses.
Let Brahmanaspati advance, let the goddess Good Speech advance; let the gods lead our sacrifice to the noble, manly, generous one, the giver of abundance.
He who gives to the worshipper, O good men, wealth, he gains unfailing fame; for him we offer rich, heroic, blameless praise and abundant food.
Now indeed Brahmanaspati speaks the hymn and the chant, in which Indra, Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, the gods, have established their abodes.
Let us proclaim that auspicious, flawless hymn among the gatherings of the gods; and may you, O men, heed this speech, so that all desirable things may come to you.
Who among men, devoted to the gods, attains the one who spreads the sacred grass with praise? The generous one, established among his dwellings, has set up a lasting home.
Approach power; it destroys even with kings, and in fear, grants a secure dwelling. For the wielder of the bolt, there is neither opponent nor rival, whether in great wealth or in youth.
The one whom the wise guardians, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman protect—such a person is never harmed.
