नहि ते पूर्तमक्षिपद्भुवन्नेमानां वसो । अथा दुवो वनवसे
None of your works, O giver, has failed among these; so may we win your favor.
आग्निरगामि भारतो वृत्रहा पुरुचेतनः । दिवोदासस्य सत्पतिः
Agni has come, Bharata, slayer of Vritra, wise in many ways, the true lord of Divodasa.
स हि विश्वाति पार्थिवा रयिं दाशन्महित्वना । वन्वन्नवातो अस्तृतः
He, indeed, surpasses all earthly riches by his greatness, conquering, unconquered by the new.
स प्रत्नवन्नवीयसाग्ने द्युम्नेन संयता । बृहत्ततन्थ भानुना
You, Agni, ancient yet ever new, have spread forth with united splendor, with your great radiance.
प्र वः सखायो अग्नये स्तोमं यज्ञं च धृष्णुया । अर्च गाय च वेधसे
O friends, offer praise and sacrifice to Agni the bold; sing and chant to the wise one.
स हि यो मानुषा युगा सीदद्धोता कविक्रतुः । दूतश्च हव्यवाहनः
For he, who through human generations sits as priest, wise in thought, is the messenger and bearer of offerings.
ता राजाना शुचिव्रतादित्यान्मारुतं गणम् । वसो यक्षीह रोदसी
Those kings, the pure-minded Adityas, and the host of Maruts—O Agni, invoke here the two worlds.
वस्वी ते अग्ने संदृष्टिरिषयते मर्त्याय । ऊर्जो नपादमृतस्य
Your vision, Agni, is bright; it seeks prosperity for mortals, O son of strength and immortality.
क्रत्वा दा अस्तु श्रेष्ठोऽद्य त्वा वन्वन्सुरेक्णाः । मर्त आनाश सुवृक्तिम्
By your will, may the mortal, striving with noble praise, today be best in giving, O Agni, you who are adorned by the gods.
ते ते अग्ने त्वोता इषयन्तो विश्वमायुः । तरन्तो अर्यो अरातीर्वन्वन्तो अर्यो अरातीः
With your aid, Agni, those seeking prosperity cross all dangers, overcoming enemies, overcoming foes.
अग्निस्तिग्मेन शोचिषा यासद्विश्वं न्यत्रिणम् । अग्निर्नो वनते रयिम्
Agni, with your sharp flame, drive away all that restrains; Agni, win wealth for us.
सुवीरं रयिमा भर जातवेदो विचर्षणे । जहि रक्षांसि सुक्रतो
Bring us heroic wealth, O Jatavedas, O wise one among people; destroy the demons, O skillful one.
त्वं नः पाह्यंहसो जातवेदो अघायतः । रक्षा णो ब्रह्मणस्कवे
You, O Jātavedas, protect us from distress and misfortune; guard us, O knower of prayers.
यो नो अग्ने दुरेव आ मर्तो वधाय दाशति । तस्मान्नः पाह्यंहसः
Whoever among mortals, O Agni, from afar, seeks to harm us—protect us from such danger.
त्वं तं देव जिह्वया परि बाधस्व दुष्कृतम् । मर्तो यो नो जिघांसति
O god, with your tongue drive away that wrongdoer, the mortal who seeks to harm us.
भरद्वाजाय सप्रथः शर्म यच्छ सहन्त्य । अग्ने वरेण्यं वसु
Grant to Bharadvāja wide-reaching protection, O Agni, bring the most excellent wealth.
अग्निर्वृत्राणि जङ्घनद्द्रविणस्युर्विपन्यया । समिद्धः शुक्र आहुतः
Agni has struck down the foes by his insight for the giver of riches, shining brightly when kindled and invoked.
गर्भे मातुः पितुष्पिता विदिद्युतानो अक्षरे । सीदन्नृतस्य योनिमा
In the womb of the mother, the father’s father, flashing forth, unceasing, he sits at the source of truth.
ब्रह्म प्रजावदा भर जातवेदो विचर्षणे । अग्ने यद्दीदयद्दिवि
Bring forth prayer rich in offspring, O Jātavedas, wise among men, O Agni, as you blaze in the sky.
उप त्वा रण्वसंदृशं प्रयस्वन्तः सहस्कृत । अग्ने ससृज्महे गिरः
To you, whose form is splendid, full of energy and might, O Agni, we send forth our songs.
उप च्छायामिव घृणेरगन्म शर्म ते वयम् । अग्ने हिरण्यसंदृशः
We have come to your shelter, O Agni, as to the shade of the sun, O you of golden appearance.
य उग्र इव शर्यहा तिग्मशृङ्गो न वंसगः । अग्ने पुरो रुरोजिथ
You, Agni, like a fierce warrior, sharp-horned as a bull, have shattered the strongholds.
आ यं हस्ते न खादिनं शिशुं जातं न बिभ्रति । विशामग्निं स्वध्वरम्
Whom, though born, they do not carry in their hands, like a child, Agni, the righteous among the clans.
प्र देवं देववीतये भरता वसुवित्तमम् । आ स्वे योनौ नि षीदतु
Bring forth the god for the favor of the gods, the bestower of wealth; let him sit in his own seat.
आ जातं जातवेदसि प्रियं शिशीतातिथिम् । स्योन आ गृहपतिम्
To the newborn Jātavedas, dear guest, let us offer welcome, as a gentle householder.
अग्ने युक्ष्वा हि ये तवाश्वासो देव साधवः । अरं वहन्ति मन्यवे
O Agni, yoke those horses of yours, O god, the noble ones, who swiftly carry the offering.
अच्छा नो याह्या वहाभि प्रयांसि वीतये । आ देवान्सोमपीतये
Come to us, Agni, and bring with you the offerings, to the gods for the drinking of Soma.
उदग्ने भारत द्युमदजस्रेण दविद्युतत् । शोचा वि भाह्यजर
Rise up, O Agni, shining for the Bhāratas with unfailing, flashing light; blaze forth, undecaying one.
वीती यो देवं मर्तो दुवस्येदग्निमीळीताध्वरे हविष्मान् । होतारं सत्ययजं रोदस्योरुत्तानहस्तो नमसा विवासेत्
Whoever, O god, among mortals, with offering, worships Agni at the sacrifice, invokes the true-sacrificing Hotar of earth and heaven, with upraised hands and reverence—
आ ते अग्न ऋचा हविर्हृदा तष्टं भरामसि । ते ते भवन्तूक्षण ऋषभासो वशा उत
To you, Agni, we bring with hymn and offering what is fashioned in the heart; may those strong bulls, your guardians, be favorable to you.
