इममु त्यमथर्ववदग्निं मन्थन्ति वेधसः । यमङ्कूयन्तमानयन्नमूरं श्याव्याभ्यः
This very Agni, like Atharvan, the wise ones kindle; they bring him, who is to be stirred, from the black wood with the fire-stick.
जनिष्वा देववीतये सर्वताता स्वस्तये । आ देवान्वक्ष्यमृताँ ऋतावृधो यज्ञं देवेषु पिस्पृशः
Be born for the favor of the gods, for complete well-being; approach the immortal gods, the upholders of truth, and touch the sacrifice among the gods.
वयमु त्वा गृहपते जनानामग्ने अकर्म समिधा बृहन्तम् । अस्थूरि नो गार्हपत्यानि सन्तु तिग्मेन नस्तेजसा सं शिशाधि
We, O lord of the house, have made you, Agni, the great one among men, with kindling; may our household fires be firm—by your sharp energy, guard us completely.
त्वमग्ने यज्ञानां होता विश्वेषां हितः । देवेभिर्मानुषे जने
You, Agni, are the Hotar of all sacrifices, appointed among all; with the gods, among the human race.
स नो मन्द्राभिरध्वरे जिह्वाभिर्यजा महः । आ देवान्वक्षि यक्षि च
With your delightful tongues at the rite, worship with greatness; bring the gods here and honor them.
वेत्था हि वेधो अध्वनः पथश्च देवाञ्जसा । अग्ने यज्ञेषु सुक्रतो
For you, O wise one, know the paths of the rite and the ways to the gods directly, Agni, in the sacrifices, O thoughtful one.
त्वामीळे अध द्विता भरतो वाजिभिः शुनम् । ईजे यज्ञेषु यज्ञियम्
To you I pray, as did Bharata with his steeds, seeking success; he worshipped you, worthy of sacrifice, in the rites.
त्वमिमा वार्या पुरु दिवोदासाय सुन्वते । भरद्वाजाय दाशुषे
You grant these many precious things to Divodāsa, who pours the Soma, to Bharadvāja, who serves.
त्वं दूतो अमर्त्य आ वहा दैव्यं जनम् । शृण्वन्विप्रस्य सुष्टुतिम्
You, O immortal messenger, bring the divine folk, listening to the singer’s good praise.
त्वामग्ने स्वाध्यो मर्तासो देववीतये । यज्ञेषु देवमीळते
You, Agni, are invoked by mortals, self-ruling, for the favor of the gods; in the sacrifices they worship you as a god.
तव प्र यक्षि संदृशमुत क्रतुं सुदानवः । विश्वे जुषन्त कामिनः
Your visible form and your will, O generous one, all the desiring gods accept with joy.
त्वं होता मनुर्हितो वह्निरासा विदुष्टरः । अग्ने यक्षि दिवो विशः
You are the Hotar, appointed by Manu, the fire most skilled in knowledge; Agni, worship the clans of heaven.
अग्न आ याहि वीतये गृणानो हव्यदातये । नि होता सत्सि बर्हिषि
Agni, come here for favor, praised, to receive the offering; sit down as Hotar on the sacred grass.
तं त्वा समिद्भिरङ्गिरो घृतेन वर्धयामसि । बृहच्छोचा यविष्ठ्य
You, whom we nourish with kindlings, O Angiras, with ghee—shine forth greatly, youngest one.
स नः पृथु श्रवाय्यमच्छा देव विवाससि । बृहदग्ने सुवीर्यम्
O god, you bring to us wide renown and great strength, O Agni.
त्वामग्ने पुष्करादध्यथर्वा निरमन्थत । मूर्ध्नो विश्वस्य वाघतः
You, Agni, Atharvan churned forth from the lotus, from the head of all creation.
तमु त्वा दध्यङ्ङृषिः पुत्र ईधे अथर्वणः । वृत्रहणं पुरंदरम्
That very you, the sage Dadhyanc, son of Atharvan, kindled—slayer of Vritra, breaker of fortresses.
तमु त्वा पाथ्यो वृषा समीधे दस्युहन्तमम् । धनंजयं रणेरणे
That very you, O strong one, Pathya kindled—most mighty in slaying foes, winner of wealth in battle.
एह्यू षु ब्रवाणि तेऽग्न इत्थेतरा गिरः । एभिर्वर्धास इन्दुभिः
Come here, Agni, I will speak these varied words to you; may we strengthen you with these offerings.
यत्र क्व च ते मनो दक्षं दधस उत्तरम् । तत्रा सदः कृणवसे
Wherever your mind, your highest skill is set, there you establish your dwelling.
नहि ते पूर्तमक्षिपद्भुवन्नेमानां वसो । अथा दुवो वनवसे
None of your works, O giver, has failed among these; so may we win your favor.
आग्निरगामि भारतो वृत्रहा पुरुचेतनः । दिवोदासस्य सत्पतिः
Agni has come, Bharata, slayer of Vritra, wise in many ways, the true lord of Divodasa.
स हि विश्वाति पार्थिवा रयिं दाशन्महित्वना । वन्वन्नवातो अस्तृतः
He, indeed, surpasses all earthly riches by his greatness, conquering, unconquered by the new.
स प्रत्नवन्नवीयसाग्ने द्युम्नेन संयता । बृहत्ततन्थ भानुना
You, Agni, ancient yet ever new, have spread forth with united splendor, with your great radiance.
प्र वः सखायो अग्नये स्तोमं यज्ञं च धृष्णुया । अर्च गाय च वेधसे
O friends, offer praise and sacrifice to Agni the bold; sing and chant to the wise one.
स हि यो मानुषा युगा सीदद्धोता कविक्रतुः । दूतश्च हव्यवाहनः
For he, who through human generations sits as priest, wise in thought, is the messenger and bearer of offerings.
ता राजाना शुचिव्रतादित्यान्मारुतं गणम् । वसो यक्षीह रोदसी
Those kings, the pure-minded Adityas, and the host of Maruts—O Agni, invoke here the two worlds.
वस्वी ते अग्ने संदृष्टिरिषयते मर्त्याय । ऊर्जो नपादमृतस्य
Your vision, Agni, is bright; it seeks prosperity for mortals, O son of strength and immortality.
क्रत्वा दा अस्तु श्रेष्ठोऽद्य त्वा वन्वन्सुरेक्णाः । मर्त आनाश सुवृक्तिम्
By your will, may the mortal, striving with noble praise, today be best in giving, O Agni, you who are adorned by the gods.
ते ते अग्ने त्वोता इषयन्तो विश्वमायुः । तरन्तो अर्यो अरातीर्वन्वन्तो अर्यो अरातीः
With your aid, Agni, those seeking prosperity cross all dangers, overcoming enemies, overcoming foes.
