With kindling and song I praise the kindled Agni, pure, shining, steadfast before the sacrifice; the wise priest, of many gifts, without deceit, the seer, we seek with blessings, the knower of all births.
You, Agni, immortal messenger, have been established age after age as the bearer of offerings, the praiseworthy guardian; both gods and mortals, ever watchful, with reverence have seated you, the all-pervading lord of peoples.
Adorned, O Agni, you follow both laws as the messenger of the gods, traversing the realms; we choose your wisdom and good will—so may you be our threefold protection, be gracious to us.
Him, with beautiful face, lovely to see, the wise, let us, the knowing, seek as a friend; let him, knowing all works, declare the offering to the immortals.
O Agni, you protect and cherish him who brings you wisdom, O hero, to the sage; whether it is the portion or the illumination of the sacrifice, you fill him with strength and wealth.
You, Agni, guard us from the hostile one; you, mighty one, protect us from reproach; may your stream flow together with us, may wealth, worthy of desire, come together, abundant.
Agni is the Hotar, the lord of the house, that king who knows all births, Jātavedas; he is the most fit for sacrifice among gods and mortals—may he, rich in offerings, lead the worshippers.
Agni, when today you, O Hotar, with shining flame, preside over the people's rite, you indeed are the sacrificer; you worship with truth and greatness—bring the offerings, youngest one, that are yours today.
To you, for worship, let the well-prepared paths be laid out; may earth and heaven place you for the sacrifice; O bountiful one, winner of strength, Agni, may we cross all troubles—may we cross them by your help, may we cross them.
Agni, with all the gods of your own kind, sit first in the wool-lined womb; lead the sacrifice, rich with ghee, as a nest for Savitar, rightly for the sacrificer.
This very Agni, like Atharvan, the wise ones kindle; they bring him, who is to be stirred, from the black wood with the fire-stick.
Be born for the favor of the gods, for complete well-being; approach the immortal gods, the upholders of truth, and touch the sacrifice among the gods.
We, O lord of the house, have made you, Agni, the great one among men, with kindling; may our household fires be firm—by your sharp energy, guard us completely.
You, Agni, are the Hotar of all sacrifices, appointed among all; with the gods, among the human race.
With your delightful tongues at the rite, worship with greatness; bring the gods here and honor them.
For you, O wise one, know the paths of the rite and the ways to the gods directly, Agni, in the sacrifices, O thoughtful one.
To you I pray, as did Bharata with his steeds, seeking success; he worshipped you, worthy of sacrifice, in the rites.
You grant these many precious things to Divodāsa, who pours the Soma, to Bharadvāja, who serves.
You, O immortal messenger, bring the divine folk, listening to the singer’s good praise.
You, Agni, are invoked by mortals, self-ruling, for the favor of the gods; in the sacrifices they worship you as a god.
Your visible form and your will, O generous one, all the desiring gods accept with joy.
You are the Hotar, appointed by Manu, the fire most skilled in knowledge; Agni, worship the clans of heaven.
Agni, come here for favor, praised, to receive the offering; sit down as Hotar on the sacred grass.
You, whom we nourish with kindlings, O Angiras, with ghee—shine forth greatly, youngest one.
O god, you bring to us wide renown and great strength, O Agni.
You, Agni, Atharvan churned forth from the lotus, from the head of all creation.
That very you, the sage Dadhyanc, son of Atharvan, kindled—slayer of Vritra, breaker of fortresses.
That very you, O strong one, Pathya kindled—most mighty in slaying foes, winner of wealth in battle.
Come here, Agni, I will speak these varied words to you; may we strengthen you with these offerings.
