With your radiance you have stretched over the earthly realms and old things, with the force of your mighty, sharp weapon. So, repel our fears with your powers; subdue our adversaries, one after another.
That wondrous one, making wonders, grants us wondrous fortune, with wondrous dominion, most wondrous in vigor. Grant us shining wealth, abundant with heroes, great and splendid, to be praised with shining songs.
The head of heaven, the unassailable of earth, Agni, the universal, born from truth. The sage, the sovereign, the guest of the peoples—the gods brought him near as the vessel at hand.
The navel of sacrifices, the seat of riches, the great, the mighty—towards him they press on. The gods generated Agni Vaiśvānara, the charioteer of the rites, the sign of sacrifice.
From you, O Agni, the inspired is born, the vigorous; from you, the heroes, conquerors of foes. Vaiśvānara, place among us the desirable treasures, O king, worthy of longing.
You, O immortal, all the gods approach as you are born, like a child. By your powers, you attained immortality, Vaiśvānara, when you shone forth from your two parents.
O Vaiśvānara, those great laws of yours, O Agni, no one has overcome. When, being born, you found the sign among the paths of your parents, in the places of fire.
With the measure of Vaiśvānara's vision, the summits of heaven are marked by the sign of the immortal. Upon his head, indeed, all the worlds have grown, like birds, the seven streams.
He, of wise counsel, Vaiśvānara, has measured out the regions; the sage has measured the shining realms of heaven. He has spread out all the worlds; unassailable, the guardian, the protector of immortality.
Now I will proclaim the strength of the spotted, mighty, red one, the knower of all births, in the gatherings. For Vaiśvānara, my new, pure thought flows, lovely as purified Soma, to Agni.
Being born in the highest heaven, Agni, the observer of vows, protected the laws. Vaiśvānara, of wise counsel, measured the midspace, and with his greatness touched the summit.
Mitra, the wondrous one, propped apart heaven and earth; within, he made light by his radiance. Like skins, Vaiśvānara rolled up the coverings, and took up all the strength.
Upon the lap of the waters, the mighty ones seized the king of the people, and they stood near the hymn-bearer. The messenger, Mātariśvan, brought Agni, the Vaiśvānara, from afar for Vivasvat.
In every age, O Agni, grant to those who praise you wealth and new glory. Like a purifier, O king, unblemished and ageless, cut down the hostile ones by your power as a woodcutter fells trees.
O Agni, sustain for us, among the generous, undiminished dominion and unfailing heroism. May we conquer the abundant and the thousand-fold prize, O Vaiśvānara, with your help, O Agni.
With your flawless guardians, protect our wealth, O Agni, seated at the threefold altar. Guard us from the hostile, and drive away their force, O Vaiśvānara; surpass them, praised one.
Day and night, black and bright, revolve with their known paths. Vaiśvānara, Agni, born like a king, surpasses darkness with his light.
I do not know the thread, nor the weaving, nor what the skilled ones weave in the assembly. Whose son here speaks these words? Who speaks beyond, who below, with his father?
He knows the thread, he knows the weaving, he speaks the words rightly. He who perceives this, the guardian of immortality, moves freely, seeing differently from another.
This is the first Hotar, he sees this immortal light among mortals. He is born, firmly established, immortal, growing with his own body.
The steadfast light is placed for sight; the mind, swiftest, flies within. All the gods, united in purpose and understanding, go toward one noble resolve.
My ears fly apart, my eyes see; this light is set in my heart. My mind wanders far and wide—what shall I say, what now shall I ponder?
All the gods, fearing, have bowed to you, O Agni, standing in darkness. Vaiśvānara, the immortal, protect us; protect us, O immortal.
Bring forth for yourselves the delightful, heavenly, well-praised Agni in the sacrifice, in the ritual. With hymns, for he is our discerner, Jātavedas, who makes the rites proper.
That radiant, foremost Hotar, Agni, kindled by men with Agnis, is praised. The hymns flow to him as affection flows, pure as clarified butter.
He prospers in fame among mortals, who gives to Agni, the wise, with hymns. With splendid aids and brilliant radiance, he attains the prize of the cattle-rich.
He who, being born, has filled the wide spaces, seen from afar with his brightness, along the dark path. Then, with much thought, the pure one is seen across the wave with his flame.
Now grant us, O Agni, wondrous wealth with many aids; bestow riches upon the generous. Those who surpass others with gifts, fame, and heroic strength, let them be among the people.
Place for us this sacrifice, O Agni, auspicious; sitting, offer the oblation. Among the Bharadvājas, you have established praise, and aided in attaining the prize of wealth.
Drive away hatreds, increase our prosperity; may we rejoice, possessing a hundredfold heroic strength.
