The mighty, awe-inspiring flames of Agni, like terrors, are unconquered. Ever drive away the demon and the foe; burn up every adversary.
With joy, the troop of Maruts, invincible and splendid in their chariots, let the Kanvas sing forth your praise.
Who, with speckled steeds and spears, together with axes and ornaments, were born with their own brilliance.
Here, listen to the crack of their whips in their hands, as they drive, making the chariots resound with varied sound.
For your troop, ever vigorous, of mighty splendor and power, let the hymn be sung in divine worship.
Proclaim the blessing among the cows, when the Marut troop rejoices; in the thunder of the juice they have grown strong.
Which of you, O men, is the most powerful, whose impulses are from heaven and earth, when you shake even the firm one?
For your march, the mortal has set out for the fierce, for the mighty; the mountain, the hill, trembles.
At whose yoking, the earth, like a wife, submits to the lord of the people; in fear, at your march, she quakes.
Firm is the offspring of these, their vigor for the mother's nourishment, when their strength is doubled.
The sons have stretched forth their voices upward, like posts on the yoke, the strong ones, eager to be recognized for the journey.
Even that long, broad, unyielding offspring of the cloud, they set in motion with their courses.
Whenever, O Maruts, people have not withstood your strength, you have shaken even the mountains.
Whenever the Maruts go forth, they speak together on their path; someone surely hears them.
Go forth swiftly with your rapid steeds; your favor is present among the Kanvas; there, indeed, rejoice on your way.
For truly, there is joy for you; we are indeed among these; may we live the full span of life.
How now, as one dear, do you hold us, like a father holds his son in his hands, you who are decked with sacrificial grass?
Where now, O Maruts, will you go for your aim, as from heaven or from earth? Where are your cows not wandering?
Where are your new favors, O Maruts, where your good guidance? Where are all your blessings?
If you, born of Prisni, were to become mortal, may your worshipper become immortal.
Let not your singer become, like a beast at pasture, unpleasing to you, led onto the path of Yama.
Let not far or near destruction, hard to overcome, strike us; may you set us on a path together with water.
Truly, you are fierce and mighty, O Rudra-like ones, even on the plain; you make the rain without wind.
Like a cow, the lightning lows; like a mother, she lets her calf go, when their rain is released.
Even by day they make darkness, with the cloud-bearing Parjanya, when they split the earth apart.
Then, at the roar of the Maruts, all the dwellings upon earth trembled, and people were shaken.
O Maruts, with winnowing hands, you go along the shining, wide spaces with unwearied courses.
May your chariot-wheels be firm, your horses strong, your reins well-fashioned.
With devoted speech, let us address Brahmanaspati for old age, Agni, the radiant friend, as one visible.
Fashion a song from your mouth, as the rain-giver stretches forth; sing the hymn and the chant.
