He, the self-governing God Savitar, comes forth at the front of both day and night, never ceasing.
He proclaims all these created things with his song; Savitar brings forth and bestows.
Speak forth, praise with your words, extol Parjanya with reverence; the roaring bull, ever generous, places seed in the plants as their embryo.
He destroys trees and slays demons; he terrifies the whole world with his mighty force; even the innocent tremble when Parjanya thunders and strikes down the wicked.
Like a charioteer urging his horses with the whip, he sends forth his messengers, the rain; from afar, the thunder of the lion resounds when Parjanya makes the sky rain.
The winds blow, the lightning flashes, the plants awaken, the sky pours; nourishment is born for all the world when Parjanya fills the earth with seed.
By whose command the earth bows, by whose command the hoofed creatures stir; by whose command the plants of all forms thrive—O Parjanya, grant us great protection.
O Maruts, grant us rain from the sky, pour out the streams of the mighty stallion; come near with thunder, O Asura, our father, and sprinkle the waters.
Cry aloud, thunder, place the embryo; circle with your chariot over the waters; draw forth the deep, the well-filled, the low-lying—let the streams from the clouds unite.
Pour out the great vessel, let the channels flow abundantly ahead; with ghee, fill the sky and earth—let there be good drinking for the cows.
When, Parjanya, you roar and thunder, you strike down the wicked; then all rejoice, whatever is upon the earth.
You have made rain, you have seized the thunderbolt, you have stirred the fields and moved beyond; you have generated plants for food—what wisdom have you given to the peoples?
You have become strong among the mountains, Earth, bearing the small and the mighty; by your greatness you conquer the vast, you are victorious in greatness.
Hymns, O wanderer, resound for you with praises; as horses neigh for the prize, so they strive for your favor, O splendid one.
Even the firm trees you shatter with your power upon the earth; when your lightning from the cloud rains down showers from the sky.
Let the great hymn go forth to the sovereign, deep and dear, to Varuṇa, renowned; he who, like a tanner, has stretched the earth for the sun.
In the forests he spread the midspace, gave strength to the swift, milk to the cows; in hearts Varuṇa placed wisdom, in waters Agni, in heaven the sun, in Soma the thunder.
Varuṇa sent forth the low-hanging cloud, the cavern, between earth and sky; with it, as king of all the world, he distributes rain like grain upon the earth.
He raises up the earth and the wide ground and the sky, when Varuṇa commands the milk to flow; together with the cloud, the mountains dwell, mighty, breaking forth, heroic.
Now I declare this great magic of the renowned Asura Varuṇa; standing as if by measure in the midspace, he has encompassed the earth with the sun.
Now this great magic of the wise god, none has overcome; when the rivers, flowing together, fill one ocean, pouring their waters.
Whether Aryaman, Varuṇa, Mitra, or a friend, or a brother, or a constant companion, or Varuṇa's refuge—whatever wrong we have done, we confess it.
Whether as a deceiver, or as an enemy, or in darkness, or in truth, or in ignorance—whatever it may be, all those faults, as if loosened, O gods, may we become dear to you, Varuṇa.
Indra and Agni, you both assist the mortal in contests; even the firm, he breaks through by your brilliance, like Trita with his voice.
Those who are unconquerable in battles, those who are renowned in contests, those who protect the five peoples—Indra and Agni, we call upon them.
Of those two, this is the glorious strength, sharp as lightning, of the generous ones; the slayer of Vṛtra approaches the cows with his hands.
Those, I seek, the chariots of Indra and Agni, I call upon; lords of mighty wealth, wise, most praised among singers.
Those two, growing strong, protect the days for the mortal, as gods; even worthy, they place the fortresses, like a portion for the godly.
Thus to Indra and Agni, we offer the great oblation, pure as clarified butter, pressed by stones; to them, among the noble, may fame, great wealth, and sustenance be granted to those who praise.
Let your thoughts go forth to the great Viṣṇu, to the Maruts, born of the mountain, ever-moving Maruts; to the host, to the one worthy of sacrifice, to the giver of happiness, to the powerful, to the bestower of blessings, to the swift, to the mighty.
