सनत्साश्व्यं पशुमुत गव्यं शतावयम् । श्यावाश्वस्तुताय या दोर्वीरायोपबर्बृहत्
May you grant us the wealth of Sanatśāśva, and cattle, and a hundredfold abundance, for the one praised by Śyāvāśva, you who are generous with your arms.
उत त्वा स्त्री शशीयसी पुंसो भवति वस्यसी । अदेवत्रादराधसः
And you, O woman, become more desirable than a man, more sought after, when you are not devoted to the godless and the irreverent.
वि या जानाति जसुरिं वि तृष्यन्तं वि कामिनम् । देवत्रा कृणुते मनः
She discerns the cunning one, the thirsty one, the desiring one; she directs her mind towards the divine.
उत घा नेमो अस्तुतः पुमाँ इति ब्रुवे पणिः । स वैरदेय इत्समः
Yet, indeed, the unpraised one says, 'I am a man'; he is a Pani, an enemy, always the same.
उत मेऽरपद्युवतिर्ममन्दुषी प्रति श्यावाय वर्तनिम् । वि रोहिता पुरुमीळ्हाय येमतुर्विप्राय दीर्घयशसे
And the youthful, eager woman has not approached me; the path has turned towards Śyāvā, while the red ones have chosen the long-famed sage, much invoked.
यो मे धेनूनां शतं वैददश्विर्यथा ददत् । तरन्त इव मंहना
He who gave me a hundred cows, as if giving ten times over, is like one who crosses over by his greatness.
य ईं वहन्त आशुभिः पिबन्तो मदिरं मधु । अत्र श्रवांसि दधिरे
Those who carry her swiftly, drinking the exhilarating mead, have here attained fame.
येषां श्रियाधि रोदसी विभ्राजन्ते रथेष्वा । दिवि रुक्म इवोपरि
For whom the heavens and earth shine with splendor on their chariots, like gold above in the sky.
युवा स मारुतो गणस्त्वेषरथो अनेद्यः । शुभंयावाप्रतिष्कुतः
Young is that host of the Maruts, with mighty chariots, unassailable, shining, and unopposed.
को वेद नूनमेषां यत्रा मदन्ति धूतयः । ऋतजाता अरेपसः
Who truly knows where their impelled ones rejoice, born of truth, without stain?
यूयं मर्तं विपन्यवः प्रणेतार इत्था धिया । श्रोतारो यामहूतिषु
You, wise ones, lead mortals rightly with such insight; you hear the calls in the sacrifices.
ते नो वसूनि काम्या पुरुश्चन्द्रा रिशादसः । आ यज्ञियासो ववृत्तन
May you, worthy of sacrifice, grant us desirable riches, shining before us, O destroyers of foes.
एतं मे स्तोममूर्म्ये दार्भ्याय परा वह । गिरो देवि रथीरिव
Carry this praise of mine, O goddess, like a charioteer, to Dārbhya, son of Urmya.
उत मे वोचतादिति सुतसोमे रथवीतौ । न कामो अप वेति मे
And speak to me, O Aditi, at the Soma-pressing, at the chariot-race; my desire does not depart from me.
एष क्षेति रथवीतिर्मघवा गोमतीरनु । पर्वतेष्वपश्रितः
Here dwells the charioteer, the generous one, among the rich meadows, sheltered in the mountains.
ऋतेन ऋतमपिहितं ध्रुवं वां सूर्यस्य यत्र विमुचन्त्यश्वान् । दश शता सह तस्थुस्तदेकं देवानां श्रेष्ठं वपुषामपश्यम्
By truth is the truth concealed, your firm place, where the horses of the sun are released; ten hundreds together stood there, I saw that one, the greatest in splendor among the gods.
तत्सु वां मित्रावरुणा महित्वमीर्मा तस्थुषीरहभिर्दुदुह्रे । विश्वाः पिन्वथः स्वसरस्य धेना अनु वामेकः पविरा ववर्त
That, O Mitra and Varuṇa, is your greatness; the standing ones have drawn it forth by day; you both make all the cows of your stream swell, and one axle revolves for you.
अधारयतं पृथिवीमुत द्यां मित्रराजाना वरुणा महोभिः । वर्धयतमोषधीः पिन्वतं गा अव वृष्टिं सृजतं जीरदानू
You, Mitra and Varuṇa, kings by your greatness, have supported earth and sky; you make the plants grow, you make the cows swell, you send down rain, you bestow long life.
आ वामश्वासः सुयुजो वहन्तु यतरश्मय उप यन्त्वर्वाक् । घृतस्य निर्णिगनु वर्तते वामुप सिन्धवः प्रदिवि क्षरन्ति
Let your well-yoked, swift-footed horses bring you here, drawing the chariot close; the channels of ghee are prepared for you, and the rivers flow towards you from the sky.
अनु श्रुताममतिं वर्धदुर्वीं बर्हिरिव यजुषा रक्षमाणा । नमस्वन्ता धृतदक्षाधि गर्ते मित्रासाथे वरुणेळास्वन्तः
Following the renowned, unfailing wisdom, protected like a sacrificial seat by sacred utterance, with reverence, holding firm skill, you dwell in the depth, O Mitra and Varuṇa, together with Ilā.
अक्रविहस्ता सुकृते परस्पा यं त्रासाथे वरुणेळास्वन्तः । राजाना क्षत्रमहृणीयमाना सहस्रस्थूणं बिभृथः सह द्वौ
Without cruelty, with hands that act rightly, you protect him, O Mitra and Varuṇa, together with Ilā; as kings, unassailable in power, you uphold the thousand-pillared order, both together.
हिरण्यनिर्णिगयो अस्य स्थूणा वि भ्राजते दिव्यश्वाजनीव । भद्रे क्षेत्रे निमिता तिल्विले वा सनेम मध्वो अधिगर्त्यस्य
The golden channel and pillar of this one shine forth, like a chariot drawn by celestial horses; in the good field, marked and flourishing, may we obtain the honey of your favor.
हिरण्यरूपमुषसो व्युष्टावयस्थूणमुदिता सूर्यस्य । आ रोहथो वरुण मित्र गर्तमतश्चक्षाथे अदितिं दितिं च
At the dawn’s shining, the golden form and pillar of the sun are raised; you ascend, O Varuṇa and Mitra, from the depth, and behold both Aditi and Diti.
यद्बंहिष्ठं नातिविधे सुदानू अच्छिद्रं शर्म भुवनस्य गोपा । तेन नो मित्रावरुणावविष्टं सिषासन्तो जिगीवांसः स्याम
With your most ample, unfailing, generous protection, unbroken, O guardians of the world, with that, O Mitra and Varuṇa, protect us, that striving, we may live and prosper.
ऋतस्य गोपावधि तिष्ठथो रथं सत्यधर्माणा परमे व्योमनि । यमत्र मित्रावरुणावथो युवं तस्मै वृष्टिर्मधुमत्पिन्वते दिवः
As guardians of truth, you stand upon your chariot, upholding righteous order in the highest heaven; O Mitra and Varuṇa, for whom you favor here, for him the sweet rain pours from the sky.
सम्राजावस्य भुवनस्य राजथो मित्रावरुणा विदथे स्वर्दृशा । वृष्टिं वां राधो अमृतत्वमीमहे द्यावापृथिवी वि चरन्ति तन्यवः
You are sovereign kings of all beings, O Mitra and Varuṇa, shining in the assembly with insight; we seek your rain, your bounty, your immortality—the thunders move through heaven and earth.
सम्राजा उग्रा वृषभा दिवस्पती पृथिव्या मित्रावरुणा विचर्षणी । चित्रेभिरभ्रैरुप तिष्ठथो रवं द्यां वर्षयथो असुरस्य मायया
Sovereign, mighty, bull-like lords of heaven and earth, O Mitra and Varuṇa, wise among men; with wondrous clouds you make your sound, you rain upon the sky by the power of the Asura.
माया वां मित्रावरुणा दिवि श्रिता सूर्यो ज्योतिश्चरति चित्रमायुधम् । तमभ्रेण वृष्ट्या गूहथो दिवि पर्जन्य द्रप्सा मधुमन्त ईरते
Your power, O Mitra and Varuṇa, is established in heaven; the sun moves with shining weapon; you cover him with cloud and rain in the sky, and the honeyed drops of Parjanya stream forth.
रथं युञ्जते मरुतः शुभे सुखं शूरो न मित्रावरुणा गविष्टिषु । रजांसि चित्रा वि चरन्ति तन्यवो दिवः सम्राजा पयसा न उक्षतम्
The Maruts yoke their splendid, easy chariot, like a hero in contests, O Mitra and Varuṇa; the bright thunders move through the spaces, O sovereigns, you rain from the sky, milking its riches.
वाचं सु मित्रावरुणाविरावतीं पर्जन्यश्चित्रां वदति त्विषीमतीम् । अभ्रा वसत मरुतः सु मायया द्यां वर्षयतमरुणामरेपसम्
Parjanya speaks forth a resounding, radiant voice, O Mitra and Varuṇa; the Maruts dwell in the clouds by your wondrous power, and rain upon the spotless, ruddy sky.
