I send forth praise for well-being, offering to heaven and earth the truth. They pour out, their horses are red, they fill the expanse, spreading their own radiance with waves.
Through their might, the earth trembles in fear, like a full boat spilling, shaken. Far-seeing, they mark these signs; among the great assembly, the men strive with them.
Like the finest horn for the glory of cows, like the eye of the sun in the expanse of the sky, you shine forth; like swift horses, splendid in their beauty, you stand forth, O men, for glory, and you are perceived by people.
Who among you, O Maruts, possesses the greatest of great powers? Who has the most wondrous manliness? Indeed, when you set the earth trembling like a blade of grass, you move forth to bestow good fortune.
Like reddish horses with their companions, like warriors eager for battle, you have joined together in combat; like vigorous youths, you have grown strong, O men, and with your rains you obscure the eye of the sun.
They are neither eldest nor youngest, ever springing forth, with none among them in the middle; by their greatness they have grown vast. Well-born by birth, children of Prisni, O sons of heaven, come to us.
Like flocks of birds, they have soared in ranks with power, beyond the peaks of the great sky; their horses, both kinds, know their ways, and they have shaken the summits of the mountain and the sky.
May the sky and Aditi measure out protection for us; may the shining Dawns strive together. The Maruts, singers of Rudra, have opened the celestial vessel, O seer.
I praise Agni, the gracious, with reverence here, well-placed, discerning our deeds; like chariots eager for battle, may I strengthen the hymn of the Maruts, moving in a circle.
Where you, O Rudras, Maruts, have stood in your adorned, pleasant chariots, even the forests, O mighty ones, are terrified by your might; the earth itself trembles, and so does the mountain.
Even the great, grown mountain is afraid, and the summit of heaven trembles at your sound; when you, Maruts, play with your spears, you rush together like waters in unison.
Like splendid ones, adorned with gold, they have covered their bodies with their own power; for glory, the most glorious, strong in their chariots, together they have accomplished great deeds in their forms.
These are neither eldest nor youngest; brothers all, they have grown together for good fortune. Their youthful father, wise Rudra, and their nourishing mother Prisni, grant fair days to the Maruts.
Whatever, O Maruts, is highest, or in the middle, or lowest, O fortunate ones, that is yours in heaven—of that, O Rudras, or perhaps of Agni, may we gain knowledge from the offering if we have invoked it.
When you, O all-knowing Agni and Maruts, bring from the highest heaven with your chariots, may those joyous, generous, and liberal ones grant wealth to the worshipper who pours the libation.
Agni, together with the Maruts, shining and chanting, drink the Soma, delighted, with your splendid hosts; with your pure, all-pervading, immortal flames, O universal Agni, come with your sign from heaven.
Which among you, O men, are the most excellent, who have come one by one from the farthest distance?
Where are your horses? Where are your reins? How did you manage, and how did you come? Who sits behind you as your companion?
At their back is the goad, their thighs are spread apart, O men; like fathers for the sake of sons.
Go forth, O heroes, O youthful ones of noble birth; as you are kindled by Agni, so may you be.
May you grant us the wealth of Sanatśāśva, and cattle, and a hundredfold abundance, for the one praised by Śyāvāśva, you who are generous with your arms.
And you, O woman, become more desirable than a man, more sought after, when you are not devoted to the godless and the irreverent.
She discerns the cunning one, the thirsty one, the desiring one; she directs her mind towards the divine.
Yet, indeed, the unpraised one says, 'I am a man'; he is a Pani, an enemy, always the same.
And the youthful, eager woman has not approached me; the path has turned towards Śyāvā, while the red ones have chosen the long-famed sage, much invoked.
He who gave me a hundred cows, as if giving ten times over, is like one who crosses over by his greatness.
Those who carry her swiftly, drinking the exhilarating mead, have here attained fame.
For whom the heavens and earth shine with splendor on their chariots, like gold above in the sky.
Young is that host of the Maruts, with mighty chariots, unassailable, shining, and unopposed.
Who truly knows where their impelled ones rejoice, born of truth, without stain?
