To the troop of the Maruts, self-luminous, offer this speech, newly born, sprung from the mountain; praise with song their great manliness, radiant in glory, who perform sacrifices on the sky’s back.
To you, Maruts, the strong, the ever-young, yoked with horses, the swift, the stormy, we sing; they bear the lightning, they roar together, the waters resound, the swift ones pour down.
Men of shining brilliance, the Maruts, stormy, mountain-born, their chariots seem to strike fire; even with rain they thunder again and again, wrapped in roaring, with mighty force, they pour forth.
The Rudras, the powerful, the mighty, scatter the coverings, they sweep apart the midspace, the regions; when you, O Maruts, drive away obstacles as a ship parts the waves, you do not fail in dangers.
That strength of yours, Maruts, that greatness, stretches far, like the course of the sun; in these wanderings, your fires are not seized, when you, horseless, have traversed the mountain.
The Marut troop shone forth when you, adorned, did not harm the tree, as the skilled one does not break it; then, with united will, you lead us on a good path, as a guide leads one with sight.
He is not overcome, O Maruts, he is not slain, he does not decay, he does not tremble, he does not perish; neither do enemies approach his wealth, whether he be a sage or a king whom you favor.
Like men victorious in battle, O Maruts, with your bands, you are not to be deceived; they fill the vessel, when the singers have sounded, they moisten the earth with the sweetness of the soma.
Let this earth incline to the Maruts, let the sky incline to those who strive; let the paths of the midspace incline, let the ancient mountains incline.
When, O Maruts, full of strength, shining like the sun at its rising, you rejoice, your horses do not tire as they run; you swiftly reach the end of this path.
On your shoulders are spears, on your thighs daggers, on your chests golden ornaments, O Maruts, shining on your splendid chariot; with fire-bright arms, with lightning in your hands, your crests are spread on your heads, golden.
That unseized, flaming, shining summit, the bright-leaved one, O Maruts, you shake; they assemble from the farthest place, swift, when the far-reaching sound of the heroes rings out.
From you, O Maruts, may we obtain discerning wealth, abundant, fit for chariots; may he who does not fail, like a sure archer, bring us, O Maruts, a thousandfold treasure.
You, O Maruts, grant splendid, heroic wealth; you protect the sage, the singer of the Sama; you give the racer the prize for victory, you bestow kingship on the one who is worthy.
That wealth I seek from you, O Maruts, which, with your help, we may spread among men; may this my pleasing word delight you, Maruts, by whose power we may cross a hundred winters.
With sacrificial zeal, O Maruts, with shining forms, with great strength, bearing golden ornaments on their breasts, they set out with well-trained, swift horses; let your chariots advance on a favorable path.
You bear your own strength as you know, great and mighty ones, you shine forth widely. Indeed, you have measured out the midspace with your power; the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
Born together, splendid, released together, even for glory the men have grown strong. Radiant like the rays of the sun, the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
Your greatness, O Maruts, is adorned, worthy to be seen, like the eye of the sun. Indeed, place immortality for us; the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
You, Maruts, stir up from the ocean, you shower rain, you are rich in water. No wondrous cows withhold from you; the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
When you yoke the spotted mares to the chariots, when you harness the golden ones facing forward, you scatter all foes, O Maruts; the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
Neither mountains nor rivers hinder you, wherever you set out, O Maruts, you go there. Even heaven and earth you encompass; the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
Whatever is ancient, O Maruts, and whatever is new, whatever is prepared, O Vasus, and whatever is praised—of all that, be you the knowers; the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
Be gracious to us, O Maruts, do not harm us; grant us wide protection. Take up the friendship of our hymn; the splendid chariots have advanced in order.
Lead us, O Maruts, towards wealth, away from those who seek to harm us, O praised ones. Accept our oblation, O worthy of sacrifice; may we be masters of riches.
Agni, call the most powerful host, adorned with gold ornaments, the people of the Maruts, today for help, even from the shining sky.
As you intend in your heart, so may it be for me; those who are nearest have come to your offerings. Increase, O fierce in appearance.
Like the earth, rich in gifts, struck afar, they rejoice as they come to us. Like a bear, O Maruts, your force is fierce, like a wild bull, like a cow, powerful in might.
Who, with strength, loosen the bonds, like cows not to be restrained; even the stone, the mountain, the hill, they shake with their might.
Rise up now with the praises of these adorned ones. I call the most wonderful, unprecedented host of the Maruts, like the flow of cows.
