Go forth, O sage, to the Marut host, generous as Mitra is to a woman; from the sky, with powerful energy, praised by thoughts, they come seeking gifts.
Now, reflecting on them, let us approach the gods, as if to a dwelling; generous, mindful, with noble ones, we come with praises and adornments.
Those noble ones, my kinsmen, speak of the cow, they speak of Pṛśni as mother; then, the wise ones speak of Rudra as father, the mighty one.
Seven for me, seven givers, each gave a hundred; on the banks of the Yamunā, the renowned, below, I cleanse the reward of cattle, above, I cleanse the reward of horses.
Who knows the birth of these, who in ancient times was favored by the Maruts? Who indeed harnessed them?
Who heard the tales of those standing in their chariots, who knew where they went? For whom did they flow, for Sudās, with offerings and rains together?
They have told me that they have come, with shining splendor, in joy; noble, youthful, faultless men, seeing these, praise them.
Those adorned, those with axes, self-bright, with garlands, gold ornaments, and spears; glorious in chariots and on the plains.
Your chariots, Maruts, I have placed in joy, ever-giving; the rains move like streams in the sky.
The generous men have poured out the heavenly vessel for the worshipper; they release Parjanya, the rains spread across the earth and move over the plains.
The rivers, swift, have rushed with foam, the dust flies, like cows; the horses, released on the road, move, the swift ones advance.
Come, Maruts, from the sky, from the midspace, with delight; do not remain far away.
Let not the Rasā, Anitabha, Kubhā, Krumu, nor the Sindhu hold you back; let not the Sarayu, full of waters, hinder you; may your favor be with us.
That host of yours, the chariots, the fierce troop of the Maruts, ever new; the rains follow after them.
Host after host of theirs, troop after troop, band after band, with good praises; let us follow with thoughts.
For whom today, well-born, worthy of offerings, have you gone forth? By this path, O Maruts.
By which you bring grain and seed, undiminished, for offspring and children; grant us that which we seek, the reward, all-encompassing prosperity.
May we cross over the deep, firm with blessings, leaving behind harm and enemies; with rain and joy, O Maruts, grant us healing, together with you.
That man is truly blessed, truly heroic, O Maruts, whom you protect; may we be such as he, under your care.
Praise the generous ones, praise their dwelling; like battle-steeds to fresh grass, call your former friends with your voice, sing to the desiring ones.
To the troop of the Maruts, self-luminous, offer this speech, newly born, sprung from the mountain; praise with song their great manliness, radiant in glory, who perform sacrifices on the sky’s back.
To you, Maruts, the strong, the ever-young, yoked with horses, the swift, the stormy, we sing; they bear the lightning, they roar together, the waters resound, the swift ones pour down.
Men of shining brilliance, the Maruts, stormy, mountain-born, their chariots seem to strike fire; even with rain they thunder again and again, wrapped in roaring, with mighty force, they pour forth.
The Rudras, the powerful, the mighty, scatter the coverings, they sweep apart the midspace, the regions; when you, O Maruts, drive away obstacles as a ship parts the waves, you do not fail in dangers.
That strength of yours, Maruts, that greatness, stretches far, like the course of the sun; in these wanderings, your fires are not seized, when you, horseless, have traversed the mountain.
The Marut troop shone forth when you, adorned, did not harm the tree, as the skilled one does not break it; then, with united will, you lead us on a good path, as a guide leads one with sight.
He is not overcome, O Maruts, he is not slain, he does not decay, he does not tremble, he does not perish; neither do enemies approach his wealth, whether he be a sage or a king whom you favor.
Like men victorious in battle, O Maruts, with your bands, you are not to be deceived; they fill the vessel, when the singers have sounded, they moisten the earth with the sweetness of the soma.
Let this earth incline to the Maruts, let the sky incline to those who strive; let the paths of the midspace incline, let the ancient mountains incline.
When, O Maruts, full of strength, shining like the sun at its rising, you rejoice, your horses do not tire as they run; you swiftly reach the end of this path.
