प्रयुञ्जती दिव एति ब्रुवाणा मही माता दुहितुर्बोधयन्ती । आविवासन्ती युवतिर्मनीषा पितृभ्य आ सदने जोहुवाना
She, setting forth, ascends the sky, proclaiming; the great mother awakens her daughter. The youthful one, full of thought, brings forth, calling to the fathers in their abode.
अजिरासस्तदप ईयमाना आतस्थिवांसो अमृतस्य नाभिम् । अनन्तास उरवो विश्वतः सीं परि द्यावापृथिवी यन्ति पन्थाः
Swiftly moving, they go forth, striving, having reached the navel of immortality. Their endless paths, from every side, the heavens and the earth traverse together.
उक्षा समुद्रो अरुषः सुपर्णः पूर्वस्य योनिं पितुरा विवेश । मध्ये दिवो निहितः पृश्निरश्मा वि चक्रमे रजसस्पात्यन्तौ
The bull, the ocean, the ruddy, the splendid-winged, has entered the womb of the former father. Placed in the midst of heaven, the spotted stone has stretched out to the ends of the realms.
चत्वार ईं बिभ्रति क्षेमयन्तो दश गर्भं चरसे धापयन्ते । त्रिधातवः परमा अस्य गावो दिवश्चरन्ति परि सद्यो अन्तान्
Four, bearing it for safety, ten nurture the embryo for movement. Threefold are the highest cows of him; they wander around the ends of heaven at once.
इदं वपुर्निवचनं जनासश्चरन्ति यन्नद्यस्तस्थुरापः । द्वे यदीं बिभृतो मातुरन्ये इहेह जाते यम्या सबन्धू
This form, this dwelling, people move about, when the rivers, the waters, have stood still. Two of them bear the mother, others here are born, twin-born, with their kin.
वि तन्वते धियो अस्मा अपांसि वस्त्रा पुत्राय मातरो वयन्ति । उपप्रक्षे वृषणो मोदमाना दिवस्पथा वध्वो यन्त्यच्छ
They spread out their thoughts for him, the waters, as mothers weave garments for their son. Joyfully, the mighty ones approach the meeting place, the brides go along the path of heaven.
तदस्तु मित्रावरुणा तदग्ने शं योरस्मभ्यमिदमस्तु शस्तम् । अशीमहि गाधमुत प्रतिष्ठां नमो दिवे बृहते सादनाय
May this be for us, O Mitra and Varuṇa, O Agni, may this be auspicious for us. May we attain depth and firm foundation; homage to the great heaven, for its seat.
कदु प्रियाय धाम्ने मनामहे स्वक्षत्राय स्वयशसे महे वयम् । आमेन्यस्य रजसो यदभ्र आँ अपो वृणाना वितनोति मायिनी
To the beloved abode, to the mighty power, to the self-glorious, to the great, we direct our thoughts. When, from the region of the sky, the wondrous one stretches out the waters, choosing them.
ता अत्नत वयुनं वीरवक्षणं समान्या वृतया विश्वमा रजः । अपो अपाचीरपरा अपेजते प्र पूर्वाभिस्तिरते देवयुर्जनः
They have extended the path, the heroic, the common, with their might, throughout all the realm. The waters have flowed together, others have withdrawn; the divine people cross over with the former ones.
आ ग्रावभिरहन्येभिरक्तुभिर्वरिष्ठं वज्रमा जिघर्ति मायिनि । शतं वा यस्य प्रचरन्स्वे दमे संवर्तयन्तो वि च वर्तयन्नहा
With stones, with days and nights, he strikes the strongest bolt, the wondrous one. Whether a hundred move in his house, rolling together, they turn day and night.
तामस्य रीतिं परशोरिव प्रत्यनीकमख्यं भुजे अस्य वर्पसः । सचा यदि पितुमन्तमिव क्षयं रत्नं दधाति भरहूतये विशे
That course of his, like the edge of an axe, is turned against the foe, the might of his form is manifest. If, with a companion, he places the treasure in the dwelling for the one who brings the offering.
स जिह्वया चतुरनीक ऋञ्जते चारु वसानो वरुणो यतन्नरिम् । न तस्य विद्म पुरुषत्वता वयं यतो भगः सविता दाति वार्यम्
With his tongue, four-faced, he moves swiftly, adorned in beauty, when Varuṇa restrains the foe. We do not know his manliness, from whom Bhaga and Savitṛ bestow the prize.
देवं वो अद्य सवितारमेषे भगं च रत्नं विभजन्तमायोः । आ वां नरा पुरुभुजा ववृत्यां दिवेदिवे चिदश्विना सखीयन्
Today I seek the god Savitṛ for you, and Bhaga, the distributor of treasures and wealth. May you two, O men, who give abundantly, turn towards us; day by day, O Aśvins, as friends.
प्रति प्रयाणमसुरस्य विद्वान्सूक्तैर्देवं सवितारं दुवस्य । उप ब्रुवीत नमसा विजानञ्ज्येष्ठं च रत्नं विभजन्तमायोः
Knowing the path of the mighty one, praise the god Savitṛ with hymns. Approaching with reverence, understanding, speak to him, who is chief, who divides the treasures and wealth.
अदत्रया दयते वार्याणि पूषा भगो अदितिर्वस्त उस्रः । इन्द्रो विष्णुर्वरुणो मित्रो अग्निरहानि भद्रा जनयन्त दस्माः
With his bounty, Pūṣan, Bhaga, Aditi, Vasta, and Uṣas grant desirable gifts; Indra, Viṣṇu, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni—these wondrous ones bring forth auspicious days.
तन्नो अनर्वा सविता वरूथं तत्सिन्धव इषयन्तो अनु ग्मन् । उप यद्वोचे अध्वरस्य होता रायः स्याम पतयो वाजरत्नाः
May Savitṛ, free from harm, grant us protection; may the rivers, flowing, follow their course. When I, as the priest of the rite, speak to you, may we become lords of wealth and prize-winning treasures.
प्र ये वसुभ्य ईवदा नमो दुर्ये मित्रे वरुणे सूक्तवाचः । अवैत्वभ्वं कृणुता वरीयो दिवस्पृथिव्योरवसा मदेम
To those who, like givers, offer praise to the Vasus, to distant Mitra and Varuṇa with hymns—may you grant us a better path; with the favor of Heaven and Earth, may we rejoice.
विश्वो देवस्य नेतुर्मर्तो वुरीत सख्यम् । विश्वो राय इषुध्यति द्युम्नं वृणीत पुष्यसे
Let every mortal seek the friendship of the divine Guide; let all strive for wealth, choose glory, and desire prosperity.
ते ते देव नेतर्ये चेमाँ अनुशसे । ते राया ते ह्यापृचे सचेमहि सचथ्यैः
Those, O divine Guide, whom you direct here—may we share in their wealth, may we join with those who are truly united.
अतो न आ नॄनतिथीनतः पत्नीर्दशस्यत । आरे विश्वं पथेष्ठां द्विषो युयोतु यूयुविः
May he grant us favor among men, guests, and wives; may he drive far away all enmity and those who walk hostile paths.
यत्र वह्निरभिहितो दुद्रवद्द्रोण्यः पशुः । नृमणा वीरपस्त्योऽर्णा धीरेव सनिता
Where the fire is kindled, the cattle rush about in the troughs; among men, the heroic household prospers, like a wise one who brings gain.
एष ते देव नेता रथस्पतिः शं रयिः । शं राये शं स्वस्तय इषस्तुतो मनामहे देवस्तुतो मनामहे
This is your divine Guide, lord of the chariot, bringer of blessings and wealth; for prosperity, for well-being, praised for his gifts, we honor the god, we honor the god.
अग्ने सुतस्य पीतये विश्वैरूमेभिरा गहि । देवेभिर्हव्यदातये
Agni, come with all these, for the drinking of the pressed Soma; with the gods, to receive the offering.
ऋतधीतय आ गत सत्यधर्माणो अध्वरम् । अग्नेः पिबत जिह्वया
You who possess true insight, come, upholding the law, to the sacrifice; drink with Agni, with your tongue.
विप्रेभिर्विप्र सन्त्य प्रातर्यावभिरा गहि । देवेभिः सोमपीतये
Come, O inspired one, with the inspired, with those who drive forth at dawn; with the gods, for the drinking of Soma.
अयं सोमश्चमू सुतोऽमत्रे परि षिच्यते । प्रिय इन्द्राय वायवे
This Soma, pressed in the bowl, is poured out without measure; it is dear to Indra and Vāyu.
वायवा याहि वीतये जुषाणो हव्यदातये । पिबा सुतस्यान्धसो अभि प्रयः
Vāyu, come for the drinking, gladly accepting the offering; drink of the pressed Soma, come for the prize.
इन्द्रश्च वायवेषां सुतानां पीतिमर्हथः । ताञ्जुषेथामरेपसावभि प्रयः
Indra and Vāyu, you are worthy of drinking these pressed Somas; may you both, free from stain, gladly come for the prize.
सुता इन्द्राय वायवे सोमासो दध्याशिरः । निम्नं न यन्ति सिन्धवोऽभि प्रयः
The Somas, pressed for Indra and Vāyu, with curd, flow like rivers to the lowland, seeking the prize.
सजूर्विश्वेभिर्देवेभिरश्विभ्यामुषसा सजूः । आ याह्यग्ने अत्रिवत्सुते रण
Together with all the gods, with the Aśvins and Uṣas, come, Agni, to the offering pressed by the sons of Atri, for the contest.
