संजर्भुराणस्तरुभिः सुतेगृभं वयाकिनं चित्तगर्भासु सुस्वरुः । धारवाकेष्वृजुगाथ शोभसे वर्धस्व पत्नीरभि जीवो अध्वरे
Resounding, with trees, the well-born, the womb of offspring, the wise, with beautiful voices; in flowing streams, you shine with straight songs; grow, and let your wives live in the sacrifice.
यादृगेव ददृशे तादृगुच्यते सं छायया दधिरे सिध्रयाप्स्वा । महीमस्मभ्यमुरुषामुरु ज्रयो बृहत्सुवीरमनपच्युतं सहः
As one appears, so he is spoken of; together with shadow, they are placed with swift waters; grant us vast, wide, great strength, abundant heroic power, unfailing might.
वेत्यग्रुर्जनिवान्वा अति स्पृधः समर्यता मनसा सूर्यः कविः । घ्रंसं रक्षन्तं परि विश्वतो गयमस्माकं शर्म वनवत्स्वावसुः
He is the first-born, the originator, surpassing rivals, with noble mind, the sun, the sage; guarding the home, he circles all, may he grant us shelter, possessing good wealth.
ज्यायांसमस्य यतुनस्य केतुन ऋषिस्वरं चरति यासु नाम ते । यादृश्मिन्धायि तमपस्यया विदद्य उ स्वयं वहते सो अरं करत्
The greater one, with the sign of the sacrifice, the sage, moves among you, bearing your names; as he is placed, so he is seen in darkness; he himself carries, let him do good.
समुद्रमासामव तस्थे अग्रिमा न रिष्यति सवनं यस्मिन्नायता । अत्रा न हार्दि क्रवणस्य रेजते यत्रा मतिर्विद्यते पूतबन्धनी
The foremost stands at the ocean's edge, he does not fail in the offering where the paths converge; here, in the heart, the fire's flame trembles, where thought is found, pure and bound.
स हि क्षत्रस्य मनसस्य चित्तिभिरेवावदस्य यजतस्य सध्रेः । अवत्सारस्य स्पृणवाम रण्वभिः शविष्ठं वाजं विदुषा चिदर्ध्यम्
He, by the powers of dominion and mind, speaks for the worshipper, the companion; with the songs of the calf, let us fill the strongest prize, the mighty wealth, even for the wise.
श्येन आसामदितिः कक्ष्यो मदो विश्ववारस्य यजतस्य मायिनः । समन्यमन्यमर्थयन्त्येतवे विदुर्विषाणं परिपानमन्ति ते
The eagle, the mother, the joy, the power of the all-protecting, worshipful, wondrous one; each seeks the other for attainment, they know the horns, they come to the flowing drink.
सदापृणो यजतो वि द्विषो वधीद्बाहुवृक्तः श्रुतवित्तर्यो वः सचा । उभा स वरा प्रत्येति भाति च यदीं गणं भजते सुप्रयावभिः
Ever generous, the worshipper destroys enemies, praised by many, famed for knowledge, with you; both blessings approach and shine forth, when he shares the group with good guidance.
सुतम्भरो यजमानस्य सत्पतिर्विश्वासामूधः स धियामुदञ्चनः । भरद्धेनू रसवच्छिश्रिये पयोऽनुब्रुवाणो अध्येति न स्वपन्
He who supports the sacrificer, the true lord, unwavering among all, the awakener of thoughts—he, like a cow rich in milk, pours forth nourishing juice, reciting the hymn, he advances and does not sleep.
यो जागार तमृचः कामयन्ते यो जागार तमु सामानि यन्ति । यो जागार तमयं सोम आह तवाहमस्मि सख्ये न्योकाः
He who keeps vigil, him the hymns desire; he who keeps vigil, to him the chants go; he who keeps vigil, to him Soma says: 'I am yours in friendship, dwelling with you.'
अग्निर्जागार तमृचः कामयन्तेऽग्निर्जागार तमु सामानि यन्ति । अग्निर्जागार तमयं सोम आह तवाहमस्मि सख्ये न्योकाः
Agni keeps vigil—him the hymns desire; Agni keeps vigil—to him the chants go; Agni keeps vigil—to him Soma says: 'I am yours in friendship, dwelling with you.'
विदा दिवो विष्यन्नद्रिमुक्थैरायत्या उषसो अर्चिनो गुः । अपावृत व्रजिनीरुत्स्वर्गाद्वि दुरो मानुषीर्देव आवः
You have come to know the sky, shining with the rays of dawn, you have scattered the darkness with your beams. You have opened the barriers, O god, from the high heaven; you have driven away the human obstacles.
वि सूर्यो अमतिं न श्रियं सादोर्वाद्गवां माता जानती गात् । धन्वर्णसो नद्यः खादोअर्णा स्थूणेव सुमिता दृंहत द्यौः
The sun, like a wise mother of cows, knowing the path, spreads light and dispels darkness; the rivers, shining, flow with roaring sound; the firm heaven stands like a well-set pillar.
अस्मा उक्थाय पर्वतस्य गर्भो महीनां जनुषे पूर्व्याय । वि पर्वतो जिहीत साधत द्यौराविवासन्तो दसयन्त भूम
For this hymn, the mountain's embryo, for the ancient birth of the great ones, the mountain opens wide, the heaven accomplishes, calling forth, they make the earth resound.
सूक्तेभिर्वो वचोभिर्देवजुष्टैरिन्द्रा न्वग्नी अवसे हुवध्यै । उक्थेभिर्हि ष्मा कवयः सुयज्ञा आविवासन्तो मरुतो यजन्ति
With hymns and words pleasing to the gods, let us call upon Indra and Agni for help; with hymns, indeed, the wise, skilled in sacrifice, calling forth, worship the Maruts.
एतो न्वद्य सुध्यो भवाम प्र दुच्छुना मिनवामा वरीयः । आरे द्वेषांसि सनुतर्दधामायाम प्राञ्चो यजमानमच्छ
Now let us become wise today; let us remove all evil and attain greatness; let us drive away hatred far, let us burn it away, and let us go forward toward the sacrificer.
एता धियं कृणवामा सखायोऽप या माताँ ऋणुत व्रजं गोः । यया मनुर्विशिशिप्रं जिगाय यया वणिग्वङ्कुरापा पुरीषम्
Let us, friends, create this thought, by which our mother found the cow's stall; by which Manu conquered the many-colored one, and the merchant found the hidden treasure.
अनूनोदत्र हस्तयतो अद्रिरार्चन्येन दश मासो नवग्वाः । ऋतं यती सरमा गा अविन्दद्विश्वानि सत्याङ्गिराश्चकार
Here, with ten months' effort, the Navagvas, pressing with their hands, praised the mountain; Saramā, seeking the truth, found the cows; the Angirases accomplished all true deeds.
विश्वे अस्या व्युषि माहिनायाः सं यद्गोभिरङ्गिरसो नवन्त । उत्स आसां परमे सधस्थ ऋतस्य पथा सरमा विदद्गाः
All the gods, at her shining, of her great power, when the Angirases move with the cows, the fountain of these is in the highest seat; Saramā, by the path of truth, found the cows.
आ सूर्यो यातु सप्ताश्वः क्षेत्रं यदस्योर्विया दीर्घयाथे । रघुः श्येनः पतयदन्धो अच्छा युवा कविर्दीदयद्गोषु गच्छन्
Let the sun, yoked with seven horses, go forth, when he measures the field with his long path; the swift hawk flies straight, the young sage shines as he goes among the cows.
आ सूर्यो अरुहच्छुक्रमर्णोऽयुक्त यद्धरितो वीतपृष्ठाः । उद्ना न नावमनयन्त धीरा आशृण्वतीरापो अर्वागतिष्ठन्
The sun has mounted, bright in color, when the green-backed steeds are harnessed; the wise ones, like a boat with water, have brought it up; the listening waters have come near.
धियं वो अप्सु दधिषे स्वर्षां ययातरन्दश मासो नवग्वाः । अया धिया स्याम देवगोपा अया धिया तुतुर्यामात्यंहः
For you I have placed thought in the waters, full of light, by which the Navagvas completed ten months; by this thought may we be protected by the gods, by this thought may we cross over distress.
हयो न विद्वाँ अयुजि स्वयं धुरि तां वहामि प्रतरणीमवस्युवम् । नास्या वश्मि विमुचं नावृतं पुनर्विद्वान्पथः पुरएत ऋजु नेषति
Like a wise horse, unyoked, I myself place the harness on the easy-going, helpful one; I do not loosen or bind it, but knowing the path, the leader guides it straight ahead.
अग्न इन्द्र वरुण मित्र देवाः शर्धः प्र यन्त मारुतोत विष्णो । उभा नासत्या रुद्रो अध ग्नाः पूषा भगः सरस्वती जुषन्त
Agni, Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra, the gods, the host, let them come forth, Maruts and Viṣṇu; both Aśvins, Rudra, the goddesses, Pūṣan, Bhaga, Sarasvatī—may they be pleased.
इन्द्राग्नी मित्रावरुणादितिं स्वः पृथिवीं द्यां मरुतः पर्वताँ अपः । हुवे विष्णुं पूषणं ब्रह्मणस्पतिं भगं नु शंसं सवितारमूतये
Indra and Agni, Mitra and Varuṇa, Aditi, the Sun, Earth, Sky, Maruts, Mountains, Waters—I call Viṣṇu, Pūṣan, Bṛhaspati, Bhaga, and Savitar for help and blessing.
उत नो विष्णुरुत वातो अस्रिधो द्रविणोदा उत सोमो मयस्करत् । उत ऋभव उत राये नो अश्विनोत त्वष्टोत विभ्वानु मंसते
May Viṣṇu, may Vāta, the unobstructed, grant us wealth; may Soma bring happiness; may the Ṛbhus, may the Aśvins, may Tvaṣṭṛ, may Vibhvan favor us for riches.
उत त्यन्नो मारुतं शर्ध आ गमद्दिविक्षयं यजतं बर्हिरासदे । बृहस्पतिः शर्म पूषोत नो यमद्वरूथ्यं वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा
And may that host of the Maruts come to us, may the worshipful one, dwelling in heaven, sit on the sacred grass. May Bṛhaspati, Pūṣan, Yama, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman grant us protection.
उत त्ये नः पर्वतासः सुशस्तयः सुदीतयो नद्यस्त्रामणे भुवन् । भगो विभक्ता शवसावसा गमदुरुव्यचा अदितिः श्रोतु मे हवम्
And may those mountains, well-disposed and generous, and the rivers, guardians of beings, protect us. May Bhaga, the distributor, come to us with strength and help; may wide-ranging Aditi hear my invocation.
देवानां पत्नीरुशतीरवन्तु नः प्रावन्तु नस्तुजये वाजसातये । याः पार्थिवासो या अपामपि व्रते ता नो देवीः सुहवाः शर्म यच्छत
May the radiant wives of the gods favor us, may they grant us success and victory in gaining strength. Those who dwell on earth, those who preside over the waters by their ordinance—may those gracious goddesses bestow protection upon us.
उत ग्ना व्यन्तु देवपत्नीरिन्द्राण्यग्नाय्यश्विनी राट् । आ रोदसी वरुणानी शृणोतु व्यन्तु देवीर्य ऋतुर्जनीनाम्
And may the goddesses, wives of the gods, come to us—Indrāṇī, Agnāyī, Aśvinī, and Rāk. May Varuṇānī of the two worlds hear; may the goddesses, mothers of order, come to us.
