चक्राणासः परीणहं पृथिव्या हिरण्येन मणिना शुम्भमानाः । न हिन्वानासस्तितिरुस्त इन्द्रं परि स्पशो अदधात्सूर्येण
They made a circuit of the earth, adorned with golden jewels. Not moving, they did not reach Indra; the rays were placed around him by the sun.
परि यदिन्द्र रोदसी उभे अबुभोजीर्महिना विश्वतः सीम् । अमन्यमानाँ अभि मन्यमानैर्निर्ब्रह्मभिरधमो दस्युमिन्द्र
When you, Indra, encompassed both heaven and earth with your greatness, everywhere, those who thought themselves mighty were overcome by the arrogant, and you, Indra, made the Dasa lowest among them.
न ये दिवः पृथिव्या अन्तमापुर्न मायाभिर्धनदां पर्यभूवन् । युजं वज्रं वृषभश्चक्र इन्द्रो निर्ज्योतिषा तमसो गा अदुक्षत्
Those who did not reach the ends of heaven and earth, nor surrounded the giver of wealth with their tricks, Indra, the bull, fashioned the thunderbolt; with light, he drove the cows out of darkness.
अनु स्वधामक्षरन्नापो अस्यावर्धत मध्य आ नाव्यानाम् । सध्रीचीनेन मनसा तमिन्द्र ओजिष्ठेन हन्मनाहन्नभि द्यून्
The waters flowed according to their nature, and increased in the midst of the ships. With united mind, Indra, with the strongest force, struck and conquered the heavens.
न्याविध्यदिलीबिशस्य दृळ्हा वि शृङ्गिणमभिनच्छुष्णमिन्द्रः । यावत्तरो मघवन्यावदोजो वज्रेण शत्रुमवधीः पृतन्युम्
Indra pierced the stronghold of Dilipa, broke the horned demon Shushna. As far as you, generous one, are superior in strength, with the thunderbolt you slew the enemy, the challenger.
अभि सिध्मो अजिगादस्य शत्रून्वि तिग्मेन वृषभेणा पुरोऽभेत् । सं वज्रेणासृजद्वृत्रमिन्द्रः प्र स्वां मतिमतिरच्छाशदानः
The flame advanced against his enemies; with the sharp bull, he attacked the forts. Indra released the obstruction with the thunderbolt; his own inspired thought brought forth the gifts.
आवः कुत्समिन्द्र यस्मिञ्चाकन्प्रावो युध्यन्तं वृषभं दशद्युम् । शफच्युतो रेणुर्नक्षत द्यामुच्छ्वैत्रेयो नृषाह्याय तस्थौ
Indra, you brought Kutsa to us, and with him, the mighty bull Dashadyu, who fought in battle; the dust, thrown up by their hooves, did not reach the sky, and Ushvitra's son stood firm for the conquest of men.
आवः शमं वृषभं तुग्र्यासु क्षेत्रजेषे मघवञ्छ्वित्र्यं गाम् । ज्योक्चिदत्र तस्थिवांसो अक्रञ्छत्रूयतामधरा वेदनाकः
You brought the bull Shama to us in the battles of the Tugras, O generous one, and the cow Shvitri for the contest over the field; even standing in broad daylight, they did not flee, and the enemy, lying below, saw their defeat.
त्रिश्चिन्नो अद्या भवतं नवेदसा विभुर्वां याम उत रातिरश्विना । युवोर्हि यन्त्रं हिम्येव वाससोऽभ्यायंसेन्या भवतं मनीषिभिः
Let your three-wheeled chariot come today, O Ashvins, with your all-pervading power and your bounty; for your mechanism, like garments of frost, is approached by the wise with their prayers.
त्रयः पवयो मधुवाहने रथे सोमस्य वेनामनु विश्व इद्विदुः । त्रय स्कम्भास स्कभितास आरभे त्रिर्नक्तं याथस्त्रिर्वश्विना दिवा
Three swift steeds carry the honey-bearing chariot, following the melody of Soma, known to all; three pillars, firmly set at the beginning, you travel three nights and three days, O Ashvins.
समाने अहन्त्रिरवद्यगोहना त्रिरद्य यज्ञं मधुना मिमिक्षतम् । त्रिर्वाजवतीरिषो अश्विना युवं दोषा अस्मभ्यमुषसश्च पिन्वतम्
On the same day, three times, you come to the blameless offering, three times today you wish to taste the sweet sacrifice; three times, O Ashvins, you pour out rich gifts for us at dawn and at the coming of the day.
त्रिर्वर्तिर्यातं त्रिरनुव्रते जने त्रिः सुप्राव्ये त्रेधेव शिक्षतम् । त्रिर्नान्द्यं वहतमश्विना युवं त्रिः पृक्षो अस्मे अक्षरेव पिन्वतम्
Three times you travel the circuit, three times among the faithful people, three times you bestow excellent guidance as if in threefold measure; three times, O Ashvins, you bring delight, three times you pour forth streams for us as from an inexhaustible spring.
त्रिर्नो रयिं वहतमश्विना युवं त्रिर्देवताता त्रिरुतावतं धियः । त्रिः सौभगत्वं त्रिरुत श्रवांसि नस्त्रिष्ठं वां सूरे दुहिता रुहद्रथम्
Three times, O Ashvins, bring us wealth, three times, O divine ones, grant us wisdom; three times, bestow prosperity and fame upon us, and may your chariot, drawn by the daughter of the Sun, come here.
त्रिर्नो अश्विना दिव्यानि भेषजा त्रिः पार्थिवानि त्रिरु दत्तमद्भ्यः । ओमानं शंयोर्ममकाय सूनवे त्रिधातु शर्म वहतं शुभस्पती
Three times, O Ashvins, bring us heavenly remedies, three times earthly ones, and three times those from the waters; bring nourishment and well-being for my son, and carry a threefold shelter, O lords of beauty.
त्रिर्नो अश्विना यजता दिवेदिवे परि त्रिधातु पृथिवीमशायतम् । तिस्रो नासत्या रथ्या परावत आत्मेव वातः स्वसराणि गच्छतम्
Three times, O Ashvins, may you be worshipped day by day; may you traverse the threefold earth; three chariots, O Nasatyas, travel the distant paths, like the wind your souls go to your sisters.
त्रिरश्विना सिन्धुभिः सप्तमातृभिस्त्रय आहावास्त्रेधा हविष्कृतम् । तिस्रः पृथिवीरुपरि प्रवा दिवो नाकं रक्षेथे द्युभिरक्तुभिर्हितम्
Three times, O Ashvins, with the seven rivers and their mothers, three calls, threefold the offering prepared; three earths above flow forth, and you guard the summit of heaven with days and nights.
क्व त्री चक्रा त्रिवृतो रथस्य क्व त्रयो वन्धुरो ये सनीळाः । कदा योगो वाजिनो रासभस्य येन यज्ञं नासत्योपयाथः
Where are the three wheels of your triple chariot, where are the three seats that are firmly fixed? When will the union with the swift ass be, by which, O Nasatyas, you come to the sacrifice?
आ नासत्या गच्छतं हूयते हविर्मध्वः पिबतं मधुपेभिरासभिः । युवोर्हि पूर्वं सवितोषसो रथमृताय चित्रं घृतवन्तमिष्यति
Come, O Nasatyas, the offering is being called for you; drink the honey with your honey-loving asses; for your chariot, adorned with ghee, is sought by the dawns for the righteous one.
आ नासत्या त्रिभिरेकादशैरिह देवेभिर्यातं मधुपेयमश्विना । प्रायुस्तारिष्टं नी रपांसि मृक्षतं सेधतं द्वेषो भवतं सचाभुवा
Come, O Nasatyas, with three and eleven gods, come here, O Ashvins, to the honeyed drink; carry us safely across, remove our sins, drive away hatred, and be our companions.
आ नो अश्विना त्रिवृता रथेनार्वाञ्चं रयिं वहतं सुवीरम् । शृण्वन्ता वामवसे जोहवीमि वृधे च नो भवतं वाजसातौ
Come near, O Ashvins, with your triple chariot, bring us wealth and heroic sons; hearing our call for help, I invoke you, be our strength in the contest for prize.
ह्वयाम्यग्निं प्रथमं स्वस्तये ह्वयामि मित्रावरुणाविहावसे । ह्वयामि रात्रीं जगतो निवेशनीं ह्वयामि देवं सवितारमूतये
I call Agni first for well-being, I call Mitra and Varuna for help; I call Night, the settler of the world, I call the god Savitar for aid.
आ कृष्णेन रजसा वर्तमानो निवेशयन्नमृतं मर्त्यं च । हिरण्ययेन सविता रथेना देवो याति भुवनानि पश्यन्
Moving in the dark space, establishing both immortal and mortal, the god Savitar goes with his golden chariot, observing all the worlds.
याति देवः प्रवता यात्युद्वता याति शुभ्राभ्यां यजतो हरिभ्याम् । आ देवो याति सविता परावतोऽप विश्वा दुरिता बाधमानः
The god goes by the downward path, he goes by the upward path, he goes with his shining, tawny horses; the god Savitar comes from afar, driving away all misfortunes.
अभीवृतं कृशनैर्विश्वरूपं हिरण्यशम्यं यजतो बृहन्तम् । आस्थाद्रथं सविता चित्रभानुः कृष्णा रजांसि तविषीं दधानः
Clothed in rays, of all forms, with golden yoke, the mighty, worshipful one, Savitar of brilliant light, has mounted his chariot, bearing power in the dark spaces.
वि जनाञ्छ्यावाः शितिपादो अख्यन्रथं हिरण्यप्रउगं वहन्तः । शश्वद्विशः सवितुर्दैव्यस्योपस्थे विश्वा भुवनानि तस्थुः
The two bay steeds with white feet have declared the people, drawing the chariot with its golden pole; ever, in the lap of the divine Savitar, all the worlds have taken their place.
तिस्रो द्यावः सवितुर्द्वा उपस्थाँ एका यमस्य भुवने विराषाट् । आणिं न रथ्यममृताधि तस्थुरिह ब्रवीतु य उ तच्चिकेतत्
Three heavens are in the lap of Savitar; two are manifest, one abides in the realm of Yama; like the axle of a chariot, they stand upon the immortal. Let him speak here who knows this.
वि सुपर्णो अन्तरिक्षाण्यख्यद्गभीरवेपा असुरः सुनीथः । क्वेदानीं सूर्यः कश्चिकेत कतमां द्यां रश्मिरस्या ततान
The fair-winged one has declared the regions of space; the deep-shaking, wise Asura, well-guiding. Where now is the Sun? Who perceives it? To which heaven has his ray extended?
अष्टौ व्यख्यत्ककुभः पृथिव्यास्त्री धन्व योजना सप्त सिन्धून् । हिरण्याक्षः सविता देव आगाद्दधद्रत्ना दाशुषे वार्याणि
He has declared eight directions of the earth, three deserts, seven rivers to be yoked; the golden-eyed Savitar, the god, has come, granting treasures and desirable gifts to the worshipper.
हिरण्यपाणिः सविता विचर्षणिरुभे द्यावापृथिवी अन्तरीयते । अपामीवां बाधते वेति सूर्यमभि कृष्णेन रजसा द्यामृणोति
Golden-handed Savitar, skilled in action, moves between both heaven and earth; he drives away disease from waters, goes forth to the Sun, and with the dark space he covers the sky.
हिरण्यहस्तो असुरः सुनीथः सुमृळीकः स्ववाँ यात्वर्वाङ् । अपसेधन्रक्षसो यातुधानानस्थाद्देवः प्रतिदोषं गृणानः
Golden-handed, the wise Asura, well-guiding, gracious, self-luminous, moves swiftly; he repels demons and sorcerers, the god stands praised at every dusk.
