You scattered the enemies with your birth, O generous one, seeking the cows, you gathered the wealth. There, when you turned the head of the Dasa Namuci, you opened the path for Manu, desiring passage.
Indeed, you yoked me then, O Indra, you crushed the head of the Dasa Namuci. Even the stone, shining and moving, you made manifest for the Maruts, as if you had fashioned the two worlds.
For the Dasa made weapons like women; what could his weak armies do to me? Both his cows were hidden within, but Indra rushed forth to battle and destroyed the Dasyu.
Here the cows, all around, lowed together, when they were separated from their calves. Indra brought them together with his might, when the well-pressed Somas delighted him.
When the tawny, shaken Somas delighted him, the bull roared in the seats. Indra, the destroyer of cities, having drunk, gave back the cows to the worshippers.
This is auspicious, O Agni, what the Rushamas did, giving four thousand cows. For the generous one who pays his debts, we have accepted the gifts of the most generous among men.
The Rushamas, O Agni, send forth a splendid gift, with thousands of cows. The strong Somas gladdened Indra, at the dawn of the day of Paritakmya.
That night of Paritakmya shone forth, when the Rushamas' king, Rnamcaya, was present. Like a swift horse urged on, the brown one gained four thousand.
We have accepted four thousand cows and cattle from the Rushamas, O Agni. Even the heated vessel, which was set down, we, the wise, proclaim as theirs.
Indra makes a path for the chariot, for the one who stands in the midst, striving for the prize. Like a herdsman separates the cattle in the herd, the uninjured one goes first, eager for victory.
Drive forward, O Indra, with your tawny steeds, do not delay; come near to us. For there is no wealth apart from you, Indra; even among the people, you alone have done this.
The mighty one was born with strength, Indra, most powerful, displayed all his powers. He set in motion the ever-yielding cow within the enclosure; with light he dispelled the gathered darkness.
The artisans fashion a chariot for the horse, Tvashtar makes the brilliant thunderbolt for you, O much-invoked one. The priests, praising Indra with hymns, made him grow, so that he might slay the foe in battle.
To the mighty one, let the strong sing a hymn, Indra, with the stones, Aditi in harmony. Those who are horseless, who are without chariots, driven by Indra, turned back the Dasyus.
I have spoken of your former deeds, and now, O bountiful one, of your recent acts as well; like one who is mighty, you bear both heavens, conquering the waters and granting wondrous gifts to man.
Indeed, this is your deed, O wondrous one, praised by the wise: when, slaying the foe, you measured your strength here; you even seized the illusions of Shushna, and when you drove away the Dasyus from the waters, you established their ancient flow.
You, Indra, made the waters flow for Yadu and Turvasha, making them richly yielding; you brought the fierce Ayu and Kutsa safely across, and the gods rejoiced together with you.
Indra and Kutsa, carried by the chariot, let the two lovely ones bear their song to your ears; drive away the silent ones, drive away those who sit apart, O generous one, and remove the darkness from our hearts.
Even the well-yoked horses of the wind, and the wise, have come here to seek your favor; all the Maruts, your friends, O Indra, have increased your strength with their hymns.
Even the sun circles the chariot on its path, first making it ready, then urging it onward; the wheel, bearing the swift, joins together, setting forth in front, and it will establish our resolve.
People look toward him as he approaches; Indra seeks his friend who has pressed the Soma; the stone proclaims, 'Let the altar be filled,' for whom the priests move about with the aged one.
Those who have praised and those who praise you now, O immortal, let no harm come to them; accept our worship, and place your strength among those people in whom we may dwell with you.
You shattered, you released the channels, you opened the paths; you broke through the barriers, O Indra, unrestrained; when you split the great mountain, the streams flowed forth, and you slew the Dānava.
You, O wielder of the bolt, broke through the barriers with due seasons, you released the udder of the mountain; even the mighty serpent, lying with countless coils, you, O fierce Indra, slew with your strength.
Of that great, wild beast, Indra struck down the slayer with his might; he who thought himself unrivaled, from him another, more powerful, was born.
Even him among them, delighting in his own power, the offspring of the mist, grown strong in darkness, the bull, bearing the thunderbolt, struck down the fierce Shushna, the Dānava, with his weapon.
Even him, settled by his own cunning, you, O Indra, found his weak spot; when, O mighty one, filled with the strength of the draught, you placed the contender in the darkness of the house.
Even him, lying thus, swelling in the sunless darkness, you, rejoicing, O bull, with the pressed Soma, Indra, struck down from above.
Indra raised his weapon high for the great Dānava, seeking an unfailing blow; when you took up the bolt, you made the lowest of all creatures.
Even him, the roaring, honey-drinking, lying in the hollow, the fierce one, you, O mighty Indra, struck down; footless, handless, with a mighty blow you cast him into a dark place, his speech stilled.
