सखायस्ते विषुणा अग्न एते शिवासः सन्तो अशिवा अभूवन् । अधूर्षत स्वयमेते वचोभिरृजूयते वृजिनानि ब्रुवन्तः
Your companions, Agni, are divided; some are auspicious, some have become inauspicious. They themselves have faltered; with their words they claim righteousness, yet speak of wrongdoing.
यस्ते अग्ने नमसा यज्ञमीट्ट ऋतं स पात्यरुषस्य वृष्णः । तस्य क्षयः पृथुरा साधुरेतु प्रसर्स्राणस्य नहुषस्य शेषः
He who, Agni, seeks the sacrifice with reverence, he protects the truth, the red bull. May the broad, good dwelling of the striving Nahusha remain.
अर्चन्तस्त्वा हवामहेऽर्चन्तः समिधीमहि । अग्ने अर्चन्त ऊतये
We call upon you with praise, we kindle you with praise. Agni, with praise, for aid.
अग्ने स्तोमं मनामहे सिध्रमद्य दिविस्पृशः । देवस्य द्रविणस्यवः
Agni, we honor you with song, swift today, touching the sky, bringer of divine wealth.
अग्निर्जुषत नो गिरो होता यो मानुषेष्वा । स यक्षद्दैव्यं जनम्
May Agni accept our words, he who is the priest among men; may he worship the divine assembly.
त्वमग्ने सप्रथा असि जुष्टो होता वरेण्यः । त्वया यज्ञं वि तन्वते
You, Agni, are renowned, you are the chosen priest, worthy of honor. Through you, they spread the sacrifice.
त्वामग्ने वाजसातमं विप्रा वर्धन्ति सुष्टुतम् । स नो रास्व सुवीर्यम्
You, Agni, most winning of strength, the sages exalt, well-praised. Grant us noble vigor.
अग्ने नेमिरराँ इव देवाँस्त्वं परिभूरसि । आ राधश्चित्रमृञ्जसे
Agni, like a wheel without a rim, you surpass the gods. You arrange splendid gifts.
अग्निं स्तोमेन बोधय समिधानो अमर्त्यम् । हव्या देवेषु नो दधत्
Awaken Agni with praise, kindled, immortal. Place our offerings among the gods.
तमध्वरेष्वीळते देवं मर्ता अमर्त्यम् । यजिष्ठं मानुषे जने
At the rituals, mortals worship that god, immortal, most fit for sacrifice among men.
तं हि शश्वन्त ईळते स्रुचा देवं घृतश्चुता । अग्निं हव्याय वोळ्हवे
Indeed, they constantly worship him, the god, with ladle dripping with ghee—Agni, as the carrier of offerings.
अग्निर्जातो अरोचत घ्नन्दस्यूञ्ज्योतिषा तमः । अविन्दद्गा अपः स्वः
Agni, born, shone forth, destroying the Dasyus, darkness with his light. He found the cows, the waters, the sun.
अग्निमीळेन्यं कविं घृतपृष्ठं सपर्यत । वेतु मे शृणवद्धवम्
Worship Agni, the worthy sage, ghee-faced. Let him come, let him hear our call.
अग्निं घृतेन वावृधु स्तोमेभिर्विश्वचर्षणिम् । स्वाधीभिर्वचस्युभिः
They have strengthened Agni with ghee and songs, universal lord, with self-chosen words.
प्र वेधसे कवये वेद्याय गिरं भरे यशसे पूर्व्याय । घृतप्रसत्तो असुरः सुशेवो रायो धर्ता धरुणो वस्वो अग्निः
For the wise, the poet, the one to be known, I bring forth an ancient hymn for glory. Agni, lord of riches, gracious Asura, established by ghee, bearer of wealth, supporter of treasures.
ऋतेन ऋतं धरुणं धारयन्त यज्ञस्य शाके परमे व्योमन् । दिवो धर्मन्धरुणे सेदुषो नॄञ्जातैरजाताँ अभि ये ननक्षुः
With truth, they uphold truth and the foundation, in the strength of sacrifice, in the highest heaven. They, born and unborn, who have approached, have established the law of heaven among men.
अङ्होयुवस्तन्वस्तन्वते वि वयो महद्दुष्टरं पूर्व्याय । स संवतो नवजातस्तुतुर्यात्सिङ्हं न क्रुद्धमभितः परि ष्ठुः
You, young and strong, stretch forth, spreading wide, the great, difficult-to-cross path for the ancient one. He, newly born, moves swiftly, like an angry lion, circling all around.
मातेव यद्भरसे पप्रथानो जनंजनं धायसे चक्षसे च । वयोवयो जरसे यद्दधानः परि त्मना विषुरूपो जिगासि
Like a mother, you bear and nourish, expanding, caring for each person, watching over them. You sustain youth and old age, and with your own form, you strive to conquer.
वाजो नु ते शवसस्पात्वन्तमुरुं दोघं धरुणं देव रायः । पदं न तायुर्गुहा दधानो महो राये चितयन्नत्रिमस्पः
May your strength bring us abundant, wide, and secure wealth, O god, for prosperity. Like a father, you place your foot in secret, discerning great riches, never failing.
बृहद्वयो हि भानवेऽर्चा देवायाग्नये । यं मित्रं न प्रशस्तिभिर्मर्तासो दधिरे पुरः
Indeed, a mighty offering is made to the shining god Agni, whom mortals, like Mitra, have established in the forefront with praises.
स हि द्युभिर्जनानां होता दक्षस्य बाह्वोः । वि हव्यमग्निरानुषग्भगो न वारमृण्वति
He, Agni, is the priest among people, with the arms of skill; he distributes the offerings, like Bhaga, granting favor to those who seek.
अस्य स्तोमे मघोनः सख्ये वृद्धशोचिषः । विश्वा यस्मिन्तुविष्वणि समर्ये शुष्ममादधुः
To him, whose friendship is generous, whose flame is strong, all powers in the assembly have given their strength.
अधा ह्यग्न एषां सुवीर्यस्य मंहना । तमिद्यह्वं न रोदसी परि श्रवो बभूवतुः
Thus, Agni, among these people, is exalted for heroic might; his fame, like a cry, spreads throughout heaven and earth.
नू न एहि वार्यमग्ने गृणान आ भर । ये वयं ये च सूरयः स्वस्ति धामहे सचोतैधि पृत्सु नो वृधे
Now come, Agni, bring us the desirable gifts, as we praise you; for those who are we and those who are noble, grant us well-being, and in battles, increase our strength.
आ यज्ञैर्देव मर्त्य इत्था तव्यांसमूतये । अग्निं कृते स्वध्वरे पूरुरीळीतावसे
With sacrifices, the mortal approaches the god for help; Agni, established at the sacred rite, is praised for aid.
अस्य हि स्वयशस्तर आसा विधर्मन्मन्यसे । तं नाकं चित्रशोचिषं मन्द्रं परो मनीषया
For his own glory, he thinks himself the best among those who perform the rites; that heaven, with brilliant flame, is delightful to the wise.
अस्य वासा उ अर्चिषा य आयुक्त तुजा गिरा । दिवो न यस्य रेतसा बृहच्छोचन्त्यर्चयः
His garments are his flames, which he has yoked with powerful speech; like the seed of heaven, his shining rays blaze forth.
अस्य क्रत्वा विचेतसो दस्मस्य वसु रथ आ । अधा विश्वासु हव्योऽग्निर्विक्षु प्र शस्यते
By his resolve and insight, the wise, the good, rides in his chariot; thus, Agni is praised in every tribe as the one to be invoked.
नू न इद्धि वार्यमासा सचन्त सूरयः । ऊर्जो नपादभिष्टये पाहि शग्धि स्वस्तय उतैधि पृत्सु नो वृधे
Now indeed, the desirable gifts are gathered by the noble ones; son of strength, for fulfillment, protect us, grant us happiness, and in battles, increase our strength.
प्रातरग्निः पुरुप्रियो विश स्तवेतातिथिः । विश्वानि यो अमर्त्यो हव्या मर्तेषु रण्यति
In the morning, Agni, beloved by many, should be praised as the guest of the people; he, immortal, receives all offerings among mortals.
