अध स्म यस्यार्चयः सम्यक्संयन्ति धूमिनः । यदीमह त्रितो दिव्युप ध्मातेव धमति शिशीते ध्मातरी यथा
Now, for whom the flames rise up straight, with smoke, when the mighty one, like a blower of the bellows, stirs him up, he blazes forth like a smith's fire being fanned.
तवाहमग्न ऊतिभिर्मित्रस्य च प्रशस्तिभिः । द्वेषोयुतो न दुरिता तुर्याम मर्त्यानाम्
With your help, O Agni, and with the favor of Mitra, may I overcome the hatred and not be defeated by the evils of mortals.
तं नो अग्ने अभी नरो रयिं सहस्व आ भर । स क्षेपयत्स पोषयद्भुवद्वाजस्य सातय उतैधि पृत्सु नो वृधे
O Agni, bring to us that wealth, strong and victorious, which increases and nourishes, and which, spreading widely, grants us success in contests and growth in battle.
अग्न ओजिष्ठमा भर द्युम्नमस्मभ्यमध्रिगो । प्र नो राया परीणसा रत्सि वाजाय पन्थाम्
O Agni, bring us the most powerful glory, free from harm; lead us by the path to strength, protecting us from loss of wealth.
त्वं नो अग्ने अद्भुत क्रत्वा दक्षस्य मंहना । त्वे असुर्यमारुहत्क्राणा मित्रो न यज्ञियः
You, O Agni, by your wondrous power and greatness of wisdom, have ascended to lordship; you are like Mitra, worthy of sacrifice.
त्वं नो अग्न एषां गयं पुष्टिं च वर्धय । ये स्तोमेभिः प्र सूरयो नरो मघान्यानशुः
You, O Agni, increase the life and prosperity of those among us who, with praises, have brought gifts, men who seek bounty.
ये अग्ने चन्द्र ते गिरः शुम्भन्त्यश्वराधसः । शुष्मेभिः शुष्मिणो नरो दिवश्चिद्येषां बृहत्सुकीर्तिर्बोधति त्मना
Those, O Agni, whose splendid songs shine forth, who are rich in horses, whose powerful men, with their might, have great fame that reaches even the sky, are known by their own nature.
तव त्ये अग्ने अर्चयो भ्राजन्तो यन्ति धृष्णुया । परिज्मानो न विद्युतः स्वानो रथो न वाजयुः
Your flames, O Agni, shining brightly, advance with force, like swift-moving, roaring chariots, like the flashing of lightning.
नू नो अग्न ऊतये सबाधसश्च रातये । अस्माकासश्च सूरयो विश्वा आशास्तरीषणि
Now, O Agni, for our aid and for the granting of wealth, may our noble ones and all our desires be fulfilled, overcoming every obstacle.
त्वं नो अग्ने अङ्गिर स्तुत स्तवान आ भर । होतर्विभ्वासहं रयिं स्तोतृभ्य स्तवसे च न उतैधि पृत्सु नो वृधे
You, O Agni, praised by the Angiras, bring us wealth; as Hotar, mighty and victorious, bring riches to those who praise you, and grant us growth in battle.
जनस्य गोपा अजनिष्ट जागृविरग्निः सुदक्षः सुविताय नव्यसे । घृतप्रतीको बृहता दिविस्पृशा द्युमद्वि भाति भरतेभ्यः शुचिः
The vigilant guardian of the people is born, Agni, wise and ever-watchful, for new prosperity; with ghee-brightened face, touching the vast sky, shining with splendor, he appears pure for the worshipers.
यज्ञस्य केतुं प्रथमं पुरोहितमग्निं नरस्त्रिषधस्थे समीधिरे । इन्द्रेण देवैः सरथं स बर्हिषि सीदन्नि होता यजथाय सुक्रतुः
As the sign of sacrifice, the first, the priest, Agni, men have kindled on the three altars; together with Indra and the gods, he sits on the sacred grass as Hotar, skillful for the rite.
असम्मृष्टो जायसे मात्रोः शुचिर्मन्द्रः कविरुदतिष्ठो विवस्वतः । घृतेन त्वावर्धयन्नग्न आहुत धूमस्ते केतुरभवद्दिवि श्रितः
Unsoiled you are born, pure from your mothers, delightful, a sage, you have risen up like the sun; with ghee they have increased you, O Agni, when kindled, your smoke became the sign established in heaven.
अग्निर्नो यज्ञमुप वेतु साधुयाग्निं नरो वि भरन्ते गृहेगृहे । अग्निर्दूतो अभवद्धव्यवाहनोऽग्निं वृणाना वृणते कविक्रतुम्
May Agni come to our sacrifice with favor; men distribute Agni in every house; Agni became the messenger, the carrier of offerings; those who choose Agni choose the wise one with insight.
तुभ्येदमग्ने मधुमत्तमं वचस्तुभ्यं मनीषा इयमस्तु शं हृदे । त्वां गिरः सिन्धुमिवावनीर्महीरा पृणन्ति शवसा वर्धयन्ति च
To you, O Agni, this sweetest speech, to you this thought, may it bring happiness to the heart; to you, the rivers and great earths, like streams, fill you with strength and make you grow.
त्वामग्ने अङ्गिरसो गुहा हितमन्वविन्दञ्छिश्रियाणं वनेवने । स जायसे मथ्यमानः सहो महत्त्वामाहुः सहसस्पुत्रमङ्गिरः
You, O Agni, the Angirases found hidden, shining in every wood; you are born when churned, mighty; they call you the son of strength, O Angiras.
प्राग्नये बृहते यज्ञियाय ऋतस्य वृष्णे असुराय मन्म । घृतं न यज्ञ आस्ये सुपूतं गिरं भरे वृषभाय प्रतीचीम्
For Agni, the great, worthy of sacrifice, the bull of truth, the lord, I offer my hymn; like clarified butter, let the well-purified song be brought to the mighty one, facing us.
ऋतं चिकित्व ऋतमिच्चिकिद्ध्यृतस्य धारा अनु तृन्धि पूर्वीः । नाहं यातुं सहसा न द्वयेन ऋतं सपाम्यरुषस्य वृष्णः
Knowing the truth, desire the truth, pursue the ancient streams of truth; I do not seek to go by force or by duplicity—I seek the truth of the red bull.
कया नो अग्न ऋतयन्नृतेन भुवो नवेदा उचथस्य नव्यः । वेदा मे देव ऋतुपा ऋतूनां नाहं पतिं सनितुरस्य रायः
By what means, O Agni, do you, true to truth, become aware of our new hymn? You, god, who know the seasons, I do not know the master of the wealth to be gained.
के ते अग्ने रिपवे बन्धनासः के पायवः सनिषन्त द्युमन्तः । के धासिमग्ने अनृतस्य पान्ति क आसतो वचसः सन्ति गोपाः
Who are your bondsmen, Agni, for the enemy? Who are your guardians, radiant ones, who bring wealth? Who, Agni, protect against falsehood? Who are the keepers of the words of the righteous?
सखायस्ते विषुणा अग्न एते शिवासः सन्तो अशिवा अभूवन् । अधूर्षत स्वयमेते वचोभिरृजूयते वृजिनानि ब्रुवन्तः
Your companions, Agni, are divided; some are auspicious, some have become inauspicious. They themselves have faltered; with their words they claim righteousness, yet speak of wrongdoing.
यस्ते अग्ने नमसा यज्ञमीट्ट ऋतं स पात्यरुषस्य वृष्णः । तस्य क्षयः पृथुरा साधुरेतु प्रसर्स्राणस्य नहुषस्य शेषः
He who, Agni, seeks the sacrifice with reverence, he protects the truth, the red bull. May the broad, good dwelling of the striving Nahusha remain.
अर्चन्तस्त्वा हवामहेऽर्चन्तः समिधीमहि । अग्ने अर्चन्त ऊतये
We call upon you with praise, we kindle you with praise. Agni, with praise, for aid.
अग्ने स्तोमं मनामहे सिध्रमद्य दिविस्पृशः । देवस्य द्रविणस्यवः
Agni, we honor you with song, swift today, touching the sky, bringer of divine wealth.
अग्निर्जुषत नो गिरो होता यो मानुषेष्वा । स यक्षद्दैव्यं जनम्
May Agni accept our words, he who is the priest among men; may he worship the divine assembly.
त्वमग्ने सप्रथा असि जुष्टो होता वरेण्यः । त्वया यज्ञं वि तन्वते
You, Agni, are renowned, you are the chosen priest, worthy of honor. Through you, they spread the sacrifice.
त्वामग्ने वाजसातमं विप्रा वर्धन्ति सुष्टुतम् । स नो रास्व सुवीर्यम्
You, Agni, most winning of strength, the sages exalt, well-praised. Grant us noble vigor.
अग्ने नेमिरराँ इव देवाँस्त्वं परिभूरसि । आ राधश्चित्रमृञ्जसे
Agni, like a wheel without a rim, you surpass the gods. You arrange splendid gifts.
अग्निं स्तोमेन बोधय समिधानो अमर्त्यम् । हव्या देवेषु नो दधत्
Awaken Agni with praise, kindled, immortal. Place our offerings among the gods.
तमध्वरेष्वीळते देवं मर्ता अमर्त्यम् । यजिष्ठं मानुषे जने
At the rituals, mortals worship that god, immortal, most fit for sacrifice among men.
