वयमग्ने वनुयाम त्वोता वसूयवो हविषा बुध्यमानाः । वयं समर्ये विदथेष्वह्नां वयं राया सहसस्पुत्र मर्तान्
We would win, Agni, by your aid, riches, awakened by our offering; we, in battle, in assemblies, by day, we, O son of strength, would conquer mortals with wealth.
यो न आगो अभ्येनो भरात्यधीदघमघशंसे दधात । जही चिकित्वो अभिशस्तिमेतामग्ने यो नो मर्चयति द्वयेन
Whoever brings upon us sin or hostility, whoever harbors evil intent, let him bear that guilt; destroy, O wise Agni, this curse—whoever seeks to harm us with duplicity.
त्वामस्या व्युषि देव पूर्वे दूतं कृण्वाना अयजन्त हव्यैः । संस्थे यदग्न ईयसे रयीणां देवो मर्तैर्वसुभिरिध्यमानः
You, god, in the morning, were worshipped as the messenger by the ancients with offerings; when, Agni, you proceed to the gathering of riches, you, god, are praised by mortals with treasures.
अव स्पृधि पितरं योधि विद्वान्पुत्रो यस्ते सहसः सून ऊहे । कदा चिकित्वो अभि चक्षसे नोऽग्ने कदाँ ऋतचिद्यातयासे
Drive away, knowing one, the one who opposes the father; as a son, O son of strength, defend us; when, O wise Agni, will you look upon us? When, O knower of truth, will you come to our aid?
भूरि नाम वन्दमानो दधाति पिता वसो यदि तज्जोषयासे । कुविद्देवस्य सहसा चकानः सुम्नमग्निर्वनते वावृधानः
The worshipper, praising, bestows many names; O treasure-giver, if you are pleased with that; may Agni, growing strong, acting by the god’s might, win favor for us.
त्वमङ्ग जरितारं यविष्ठ विश्वान्यग्ने दुरिताति पर्षि । स्तेना अदृश्रन्रिपवो जनासोऽज्ञातकेता वृजिना अभूवन्
You, youngest one, lead the singer across all hardships, O Agni; thieves are unseen, enemies are people, those of unknown signs become wicked.
इमे यामासस्त्वद्रिगभूवन्वसवे वा तदिदागो अवाचि । नाहायमग्निरभिशस्तये नो न रीषते वावृधानः परा दात्
These invocations, O seer of all, have been spoken for you, O Vasava; this indeed I have declared here. This Agni does not harm us with reproach, nor does he injure; ever-growing, he drives away what is far.
त्वामग्ने वसुपतिं वसूनामभि प्र मन्दे अध्वरेषु राजन् । त्वया वाजं वाजयन्तो जयेमाभि ष्याम पृत्सुतीर्मर्त्यानाम्
You, Agni, lord of wealth among treasures, we extol foremost at the sacrifices, O king. By you, striving for strength, may we win the prize; may we surpass the contests of mortals.
हव्यवाळग्निरजरः पिता नो विभुर्विभावा सुदृशीको अस्मे । सुगार्हपत्याः समिषो दिदीह्यस्मद्र्यक्सं मिमीहि श्रवांसि
Agni, the immortal, bearer of offerings, our father, the all-pervading, the clearly-seen, be gracious to us. Shine with good household fire, with blessings; measure out for us, directly, renown.
विशां कविं विश्पतिं मानुषीणां शुचिं पावकं घृतपृष्ठमग्निम् । नि होतारं विश्वविदं दधिध्वे स देवेषु वनते वार्याणि
You set Agni, the sage of the people, the lord of men, the pure, the radiant, with ghee anointed. As the priest, all-knowing, you appoint him; he among the gods obtains the prizes.
जुषस्वाग्न इळया सजोषा यतमानो रश्मिभिः सूर्यस्य । जुषस्व नः समिधं जातवेद आ च देवान्हविरद्याय वक्षि
Accept, Agni, with delight, together with Ila, as you strive with the rays of the sun. Accept our kindling, O knower of births; bring here the gods to partake of the offering.
जुष्टो दमूना अतिथिर्दुरोण इमं नो यज्ञमुप याहि विद्वान् । विश्वा अग्ने अभियुजो विहत्या शत्रूयतामा भरा भोजनानि
Favored, O house-lord, guest in the home, come to this our sacrifice, knowing. Agni, overcome all hostile powers, bring us food, and turn away the enemies.
वधेन दस्युं प्र हि चातयस्व वयः कृण्वानस्तन्वे स्वायै । पिपर्षि यत्सहसस्पुत्र देवान्त्सो अग्ने पाहि नृतम वाजे अस्मान्
With destruction drive away the Dasyu, make vigor for your own form. Since you, son of strength, protect the gods, so, Agni, best of men, guard us in the contest.
वयं ते अग्न उक्थैर्विधेम वयं हव्यैः पावक भद्रशोचे । अस्मे रयिं विश्ववारं समिन्वास्मे विश्वानि द्रविणानि धेहि
We will honor you, Agni, with hymns; we will honor you, pure-shining, with offerings. Grant us wealth, all-desirable, gathered; bestow upon us all treasures.
अस्माकमग्ने अध्वरं जुषस्व सहसः सूनो त्रिषधस्थ हव्यम् । वयं देवेषु सुकृतः स्याम शर्मणा नस्त्रिवरूथेन पाहि
Accept our sacrifice, Agni, son of strength, three-seated, accept the offering. May we be doers of good among the gods; protect us with triple shelter, with your protection.
विश्वानि नो दुर्गहा जातवेदः सिन्धुं न नावा दुरिताति पर्षि । अग्ने अत्रिवन्नमसा गृणानोऽस्माकं बोध्यविता तनूनाम्
O knower of births, carry us over all difficulties, as a boat over the river, beyond all misfortunes. Agni, praised by Atri, with reverence, be the protector of our persons.
यस्त्वा हृदा कीरिणा मन्यमानोऽमर्त्यं मर्त्यो जोहवीमि । जातवेदो यशो अस्मासु धेहि प्रजाभिरग्ने अमृतत्वमश्याम्
Whichever mortal, thinking himself devout, calls upon you, the immortal, with his heart and praise—O knower of births, grant us glory; with offspring, Agni, may we attain immortality.
यस्मै त्वं सुकृते जातवेद उ लोकमग्ने कृणवः स्योनम् । अश्विनं स पुत्रिणं वीरवन्तं गोमन्तं रयिं नशते स्वस्ति
For whom, O knower of births, you, Agni, make a pleasant dwelling, for the doer of good—he attains offspring, heroic and rich in cattle, and abundant wealth, with well-being.
सुसमिद्धाय शोचिषे घृतं तीव्रं जुहोतन । अग्नये जातवेदसे
Pour clarified butter, strong and pure, into the well-kindled flame—unto Agni, the knower of births.
नराशंसः सुषूदतीमं यज्ञमदाभ्यः । कविर्हि मधुहस्त्यः
Narāśaṃsa, gladly accept this sacrifice from the worshippers, O sage with the honeyed hand.
ईळितो अग्न आ वहेन्द्रं चित्रमिह प्रियम् । सुखै रथेभिरूतये
Invoked, Agni, bring Indra here, the splendid, the beloved, with easy chariots for our aid.
ऊर्णम्रदा वि प्रथस्वाभ्यर्का अनूषत । भवा नः शुभ्र सातये
Spread forth, wool-soft one; the worshippers have praised you with hymns. Be, O shining one, our guide to prosperity.
देवीर्द्वारो वि श्रयध्वं सुप्रायणा न ऊतये । प्रप्र यज्ञं पृणीतन
O divine doors, open wide, with good guidance for our aid. Let the sacrifice proceed and be filled.
सुप्रतीके वयोवृधा यह्वी ऋतस्य मातरा । दोषामुषासमीमहे
With beautiful faces, ever-young, mighty, mothers of truth—at dawn and dusk we invoke you.
वातस्य पत्मन्नीळिता दैव्या होतारा मनुषः । इमं नो यज्ञमा गतम्
O divine priests, guided by the flight of the wind, and by human effort, come to this sacrifice of ours.
इळा सरस्वती मही तिस्रो देवीर्मयोभुवः । बर्हिः सीदन्त्वस्रिधः
Ilā, Sarasvatī, and Mahī, the three goddesses who bring delight, may they sit upon the sacred grass, unwavering.
शिवस्त्वष्टरिहा गहि विभुः पोष उत त्मना । यज्ञेयज्ञे न उदव
Gracious Tvaṣṭar, come here, mighty and nourishing by your own power; bring forth offerings at every sacrifice.
यत्र वेत्थ वनस्पते देवानां गुह्या नामानि । तत्र हव्यानि गामय
Where, O Lord of the Forest, you know the secret names of the gods, there lead the offerings.
स्वाहाग्नये वरुणाय स्वाहेन्द्राय मरुद्भ्यः । स्वाहा देवेभ्यो हविः
Svāhā to Agni, to Varuṇa, Svāhā to Indra and the Maruts; Svāhā, the oblation to the gods.
अग्निं तं मन्ये यो वसुरस्तं यं यन्ति धेनवः । अस्तमर्वन्त आशवोऽस्तं नित्यासो वाजिन इषं स्तोतृभ्य आ भर
I consider that Agni, who is the wealth-bringer, to whom the cows go, to whom the swift horses and the ever-ready steeds go; bring nourishment to the singers.
