आपप्रुषी विभावरि व्यावर्ज्योतिषा तमः । उषो अनु स्वधामव
You, shining one, have filled the wide expanse, dispelling darkness with your light; O Ushas, you follow your own law.
आ द्यां तनोषि रश्मिभिरान्तरिक्षमुरु प्रियम् । उषः शुक्रेण शोचिषा
You stretch your rays to the sky, to the wide beloved midspace, O Ushas, with your bright radiance.
तद्देवस्य सवितुर्वार्यं महद्वृणीमहे असुरस्य प्रचेतसः । छर्दिर्येन दाशुषे यच्छति त्मना तन्नो महाँ उदयान्देवो अक्तुभिः
We choose that great gift of the god Savitar, the wise lord, by which he grants protection to the worshipper by his own power; may that great god bring us to the days with his lights.
दिवो धर्ता भुवनस्य प्रजापतिः पिशङ्गं द्रापिं प्रति मुञ्चते कविः । विचक्षणः प्रथयन्नापृणन्नुर्वजीजनत्सविता सुम्नमुक्थ्यम्
The supporter of heaven, the lord of beings, the sage puts on his tawny garment; the far-seeing one, spreading and filling, Savitar, has generated auspicious praise.
आप्रा रजांसि दिव्यानि पार्थिवा श्लोकं देवः कृणुते स्वाय धर्मणे । प्र बाहू अस्राक्सविता सवीमनि निवेशयन्प्रसुवन्नक्तुभिर्जगत्
He fills the celestial and earthly regions; the god makes his glory for his own order; Savitar has stretched out his arms at the impulse, establishing and setting in motion the world with the days.
अदाभ्यो भुवनानि प्रचाकशद्व्रतानि देवः सविताभि रक्षते । प्रास्राग्बाहू भुवनस्य प्रजाभ्यो धृतव्रतो महो अज्मस्य राजति
The god Savitar, unerring, has made the worlds shine; with his ordinances he protects the creatures; he has stretched out his arms for the beings, steadfast in his vow, he shines as king of the great path.
त्रिरन्तरिक्षं सविता महित्वना त्री रजांसि परिभुस्त्रीणि रोचना । तिस्रो दिवः पृथिवीस्तिस्र इन्वति त्रिभिर्व्रतैरभि नो रक्षति त्मना
Savitar, by his greatness, encompasses the threefold midspace, the three regions, the three lights; he rules over three heavens, three earths, three waters; with these three ordinances he protects us by his own power.
बृहत्सुम्नः प्रसवीता निवेशनो जगत स्थातुरुभयस्य यो वशी । स नो देवः सविता शर्म यच्छत्वस्मे क्षयाय त्रिवरूथमंहसः
The great-minded, all-fostering, establishing god, who is master of both the moving and the stationary, may that god Savitar grant us shelter, for our dwelling, a triple protection from harm.
आगन्देव ऋतुभिर्वर्धतु क्षयं दधातु नः सविता सुप्रजामिषम् । स नः क्षपाभिरहभिश्च जिन्वतु प्रजावन्तं रयिमस्मे समिन्वतु
May the god come with the seasons, may Savitar increase our home, grant us good offspring and food; may he quicken us with nights and days, may he bestow wealth with offspring upon us.
अभूद्देवः सविता वन्द्यो नु न इदानीमह्न उपवाच्यो नृभिः । वि यो रत्ना भजति मानवेभ्यः श्रेष्ठं नो अत्र द्रविणं यथा दधत्
The god Savitar has become worthy of praise; now, at this time of day, he is to be honored by men; he distributes treasures to mortals, may he grant us here the best wealth as he does.
देवेभ्यो हि प्रथमं यज्ञियेभ्योऽमृतत्वं सुवसि भागमुत्तमम् । आदिद्दामानं सवितर्व्यूर्णुषेऽनूचीना जीविता मानुषेभ्यः
For to the gods, the first and most worshipful, you, Savitar, bestow immortality, the highest share; from there you loosen the bonds, Savitar, for the living, granting lives to mortals.
अचित्ती यच्चकृमा दैव्ये जने दीनैर्दक्षैः प्रभूती पूरुषत्वता । देवेषु च सवितर्मानुषेषु च त्वं नो अत्र सुवतादनागसः
Whatever unconscious wrong we have done among the divine hosts, with feeble powers, through human weakness, among gods and among men, O Savitar, may you grant us sinlessness here.
न प्रमिये सवितुर्दैव्यस्य तद्यथा विश्वं भुवनं धारयिष्यति । यत्पृथिव्या वरिमन्ना स्वङ्गुरिर्वर्ष्मन्दिवः सुवति सत्यमस्य तत्
The measure of the divine Savitar cannot be surpassed, as he upholds all the world; whatever breadth of earth, or the space of the sky, he truly bestows that.
इन्द्रज्येष्ठान्बृहद्भ्यः पर्वतेभ्यः क्षयाँ एभ्यः सुवसि पस्त्यावतः । यथायथा पतयन्तो वियेमिर एवैव तस्थुः सवितः सवाय ते
From the mountains, great and Indra-favored, from the dwellings, you, Savitar, bestow prosperity on the household; as the birds fly forth in various ways, so, Savitar, your impulses remain steadfast.
ये ते त्रिरहन्सवितः सवासो दिवेदिवे सौभगमासुवन्ति । इन्द्रो द्यावापृथिवी सिन्धुरद्भिरादित्यैर्नो अदितिः शर्म यंसत्
Those companions of yours, O Savitar, who, three times each day, swiftly bring good fortune—may Indra, Heaven and Earth, the river Sindhu with the waters, and Aditi with the Adityas, grant us shelter.
को वस्त्राता वसवः को वरूता द्यावाभूमी अदिते त्रासीथां नः । सहीयसो वरुण मित्र मर्तात्को वोऽध्वरे वरिवो धाति देवाः
Who among you, O Vasus, is the giver of garments? Who is the protector? May Heaven and Earth, O Aditi, keep us from fear. O mighty Varuna and Mitra, who among you gods grants passage at the sacrifice for mortals?
प्र ये धामानि पूर्व्याण्यर्चान्वि यदुच्छान्वियोतारो अमूराः । विधातारो वि ते दधुरजस्रा ऋतधीतयो रुरुचन्त दस्माः
Those who, from the beginning, have set forth the ancient ordinances—when they ascend, those unfailing ones, the wise, have established the everlasting laws; the wondrous ones shine with righteous thoughts.
प्र पस्त्यामदितिं सिन्धुमर्कैः स्वस्तिमीळे सख्याय देवीम् । उभे यथा नो अहनी निपात उषासानक्ता करतामदब्धे
With hymns I praise Aditi, the river Sindhu, for well-being and friendship, the divine one. As both Day and Night fall upon us, may the undeceivable Ushas and Night act for our benefit.
व्यर्यमा वरुणश्चेति पन्थामिषस्पतिः सुवितं गातुमग्निः । इन्द्राविष्णू नृवदु षु स्तवाना शर्म नो यन्तममवद्वरूथम्
Aryaman and Varuna have stretched out the paths; the Lord of food, Agni, leads to good fortune. O Indra and Vishnu, praised among men, bring us shelter and protection, and come to our aid.
आ पर्वतस्य मरुतामवांसि देवस्य त्रातुरव्रि भगस्य । पात्पतिर्जन्यादंहसो नो मित्रो मित्रियादुत न उरुष्येत्
From the mountain, may the protections of the Maruts, of the god Bhaga the savior, come to us. May Mitra, the lord, guard us from harm born among men, and may he not let us be oppressed.
नू रोदसी अहिना बुध्न्येन स्तुवीत देवी अप्येभिरिष्टैः । समुद्रं न संचरणे सनिष्यवो घर्मस्वरसो नद्यो अप व्रन्
Now let Heaven and Earth, with the serpent of the deep, be praised as goddesses with these chosen offerings. Like rivers flowing together to the sea, may the streams, full of warmth and sweetness, unite their waters.
देवैर्नो देव्यदितिर्नि पातु देवस्त्राता त्रायतामप्रयुच्छन् । नहि मित्रस्य वरुणस्य धासिमर्हामसि प्रमियं सान्वग्नेः
May the goddess Aditi, with the gods, protect us; may the god, the savior, save us without delay. For we are not worthy to transgress the command of Mitra and Varuna, nor the path of Agni.
अग्निरीशे वसव्यस्याग्निर्महः सौभगस्य । तान्यस्मभ्यं रासते
Agni is the lord of wealth, Agni is the lord of great good fortune. May he bestow these upon us.
उषो मघोन्या वह सूनृते वार्या पुरु । अस्मभ्यं वाजिनीवति
O Dawn, bring us generous gifts, O gracious one, many prizes; bring them to us, endowed with strength.
तत्सु नः सविता भगो वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । इन्द्रो नो राधसा गमत्
May Savitar, Bhaga, Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, and Indra come to us with their bounty.
मही द्यावापृथिवी इह ज्येष्ठे रुचा भवतां शुचयद्भिरर्कैः । यत्सीं वरिष्ठे बृहती विमिन्वन्रुवद्धोक्षा पप्रथानेभिरेवैः
Great Heaven and Earth, be present here, supreme, shining with pure rays. When you, the greatest and vast, measured out the wide spaces, the mighty bull spread them forth with his powers.
देवी देवेभिर्यजते यजत्रैरमिनती तस्थतुरुक्षमाणे । ऋतावरी अद्रुहा देवपुत्रे यज्ञस्य नेत्री शुचयद्भिरर्कैः
The goddess, together with the gods worthy of worship, is honored with sacrifices; she stands firm, unshaken. True to order, free from guile, daughters of the god, leaders of the sacrifice, shining with pure hymns.
स इत्स्वपा भुवनेष्वास य इमे द्यावापृथिवी जजान । उर्वी गभीरे रजसी सुमेके अवंशे धीरः शच्या समैरत्
He alone, self-dependent among beings, who begot these Heaven and Earth—he, wise, with his power, joined together the broad and deep realms, harmonizing them in their foundations.
नू रोदसी बृहद्भिर्नो वरूथैः पत्नीवद्भिरिषयन्ती सजोषाः । उरूची विश्वे यजते नि पातं धिया स्याम रथ्यः सदासाः
Now, Heaven and Earth, grant us great protections, united like spouses, eager to help. May you, worshipped by all, guard us; by your wisdom, may we always be charioteers at the sacrifice.
प्र वां महि द्यवी अभ्युपस्तुतिं भरामहे । शुची उप प्रशस्तये
To you both, Heaven and Earth, we bring a great hymn of praise; pure ones, come near for our glorification.
