Let my sovereignty, like that of a ruler, be established over all peoples, as the immortals have; the gods support the will of Varuṇa, I am king over the people, chosen by the highest.
I am King Varuṇa; to me those first powers of sovereignty have been entrusted; the gods support the will of Varuṇa, I am king over the people, chosen by the highest.
I am Indra, I am Varuṇa; your greatness is vast and deep, the two realms are well-ordered; like Tvaṣṭṛ, knowing all beings, I unite and uphold the heavens and the earth.
I made the waters swell, I held back those that would flow away, I upheld the sky, the seat of truth; by truth, I am the son of Aditi, a follower of truth, and I spread out the threefold world.
May men with swift horses, striving for prizes, not summon me to battle; may those chosen not call upon me in conflict. I, Maghavan, Indra, prepare the offering; I send forth dust, overpowering with might.
I have accomplished all these things; no one matches my divine, unconquered power. When the Somas delight me, and other hymns as well, both the boundless realms tremble in fear.
You know all the worlds; declare them, O wise one, to Varuṇa. You have heard of and struck down the Vṛtras; you, Indra, have released the rivers for the chosen ones.
Here, our fathers were present—seven seers—when the Dāsa was being bound in distress. They sacrificed to Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, the half-divine, for the sake of Trasadasyu.
Indeed, Purukutsa's wife invoked you, Indra and Varuṇa, with offerings and homage. Then you granted the king Trasadasyu, the slayer of Vṛtra, the half-divine one.
With wealth may we, together with our cattle, rejoice, O gods, with offerings and with grain. Indra and Varuṇa, may you always grant us that cow, unfailing, ever-yielding.
Who will hear, which one of the worthy gods, O worshipped one, will accept our praise? To whom among the immortal gods shall we dedicate this beautiful, heartfelt hymn, easy to invoke?
Who will show us favor, who will come most willingly among the gods, who is most gracious? They call that chariot swift, with fast horses, which the daughter of the sun chose.
Swiftly you come, as if eager for battle, like Indra with his power in the contest. Born of heaven, divine, with beautiful wings—by what skill are you, O mighty ones, the most powerful among the powerful?
What is your protection, by which, O Aśvins, do you come when invoked? Who, by your great, wondrous deeds, O mighty ones, will call you, that you may grant wide help with your sweet aid?
Your chariot moves widely across the sky, when it comes forth from the ocean. Sweetness, honey, and mead flow for you; your horses, well-fed, draw your chariot with vigor.
The river, indeed, bathes your horses with its juice; the bright, reddish steeds circle around. Then your unfailing vehicle proceeds, by which you became the lords of Sūryā.
Here, when your favor is sought, this is your good will, rich in prizes. Grant wide protection to the singer, O Aśvins; the desire that clings to me is yours alone.
That chariot of yours, O Aśvins, with broad seats, we call today, the gathering of cows. It carries Sūryā, the bride, the singer, most generous in gifts, most bountiful.
You, O divine Aśvins, grandsons of heaven, win glory with your powers. Your forms, together with the horses, are joined; your chariot is drawn by the yokes.
Who today will prepare for you, O Aśvins, the well-invoked offering, for aid or for the sweet drink with prayers? For the ancient truth, for the first, let the one who honors you turn to you with reverence.
With your golden chariot, O Nāsatyas, come to this sacrifice. Drink of the honeyed Soma, and bestow treasure upon the worshipping people.
Come to us from heaven, from earth, with your golden, well-fitted chariot. Let not others, desiring you, detain you, when your ancient navel, your origin, unites you.
Now, O wondrous pair, grant us abundant wealth with many heroes, in both your aspects, for us; O men, when you, Ashvins, receive our hymn and praise, those who seek you come forth.
Here, just here, when your minds have been questioned, may this good favor with its prizes come to us; may you make wide room for the singer—truly, O Nasatyas, the desire that clings to you is yours alone.
Here rises his radiance; the chariot is yoked, encircling the summit of the sky; three swift steeds are yoked together upon it, and a fourth, of honey, runs apart.
Your honey-laden steeds rise up at the dawns, your chariot-horses at the break of day; driving away the enveloping darkness, they spread shining light, stretching across the sky.
Drink the mead with honey-drinking cups, and yoke your beloved chariot to the honey; on the honeyed path you quicken the journey, Ashvins, you carry the most honey-laden gift.
Your honeyed swans, unwearied, with golden wings, the dawn has awakened; rising up, they are eager, touching the eager, like bees to honey, you come to the offerings.
The well-ordered, honey-laden fires blaze forth, O Ashvins, at the coming of dawn; when the wise, swift-handed one pressed the honeyed Soma with stones.
Those who drink together by day, moving swiftly, spread shining light, stretching across the sky; even the Sun, yoking his horses, goes forth, and by your own power you know all the paths.
