अस्माकं त्वा मतीनामा स्तोम इन्द्र यच्छतु । अर्वागा वर्तया हरी
May our hymn, O Indra, bring you to our thoughts; turn your bays hither.
पुरोळाशं च नो घसो जोषयासे गिरश्च नः । वधूयुरिव योषणाम्
May you delight in our sacrificial food and our songs, as a bridegroom delights in maidens.
सहस्रं व्यतीनां युक्तानामिन्द्रमीमहे । शतं सोमस्य खार्यः
We call Indra for a thousand well-yoked chariots, and a hundred jars of Soma.
सहस्रा ते शता वयं गवामा च्यावयामसि । अस्मत्रा राध एतु ते
Thousands and hundreds of cows, O Indra, may we drive to you; may your favor come to us.
दश ते कलशानां हिरण्यानामधीमहि । भूरिदा असि वृत्रहन्
We have taken up ten of your golden vessels; you are a generous giver, O slayer of Vṛtra.
भूरिदा भूरि देहि नो मा दभ्रं भूर्या भर । भूरि घेदिन्द्र दित्ससि
O generous giver, give us much; do not give little, bring us abundance; for you, Indra, indeed give in plenty.
भूरिदा ह्यसि श्रुतः पुरुत्रा शूर वृत्रहन् । आ नो भजस्व राधसि
You are renowned as a generous giver in many places, O heroic slayer of Vṛtra; grant us a share in your bounty.
प्र ते बभ्रू विचक्षण शंसामि गोषणो नपात् । माभ्यां गा अनु शिश्रथः
To you, tawny one, wise and discerning, I proclaim praise, O descendant of the seeker of cows; do not abandon the cows for the two of us.
कनीनकेव विद्रधे नवे द्रुपदे अर्भके । बभ्रू यामेषु शोभेते
Like a young girl in new attire, like a child in fresh garments, the tawny ones shine among the teams.
अरं म उस्रयाम्णेऽरमनुस्रयाम्णे । बभ्रू यामेष्वस्रिधा
Let it be good for the cattle-station, let it be good for the followers of the cattle-station; the tawny ones, ever-flowing, are in the teams.
प्र ऋभुभ्यो दूतमिव वाचमिष्य उपस्तिरे श्वैतरीं धेनुमीळे । ये वातजूतास्तरणिभिरेवैः परि द्यां सद्यो अपसो बभूवुः
I send forth speech to the Ṛbhus, as a messenger, I spread out the white cow for praise; who, driven by the wind, with swift chariots, quickly became waters around the sky.
यदारमक्रन्नृभवः पितृभ्यां परिविष्टी वेषणा दंसनाभिः । आदिद्देवानामुप सख्यमायन्धीरासः पुष्टिमवहन्मनायै
When the skillful ones made the resting place for their parents, surrounding them with adornments and teeth, then the wise ones brought strength for the mind, entering into friendship with the gods.
पुनर्ये चक्रुः पितरा युवाना सना यूपेव जरणा शयाना । ते वाजो विभ्वाँ ऋभुरिन्द्रवन्तो मधुप्सरसो नोऽवन्तु यज्ञम्
Those who made their parents young again, though old and lying at the post like a sacrificial stake, may those Ṛbhus, endowed with strength, Indra's companions, and possessing honeyed streams, protect our sacrifice.
यत्संवत्समृभवो गामरक्षन्यत्संवत्समृभवो मा अपिंशन् । यत्संवत्समभरन्भासो अस्यास्ताभिः शमीभिरमृतत्वमाशुः
When for a year the Ṛbhus protected the cow, when for a year the Ṛbhus shaped the horse, when for a year they bore the brightness of this one, by those labors they swiftly attained immortality.
ज्येष्ठ आह चमसा द्वा करेति कनीयान्त्रीन्कृणवामेत्याह । कनिष्ठ आह चतुरस्करेति त्वष्ट ऋभवस्तत्पनयद्वचो वः
The eldest said, 'Let us make two cups,' the youngest said, 'Let us make four,' the youngest said, 'Let us make four,' and Tvaṣṭṛ, O Ṛbhus, approved your words.
सत्यमूचुर्नर एवा हि चक्रुरनु स्वधामृभवो जग्मुरेताम् । विभ्राजमानाँश्चमसाँ अहेवावेनत्त्वष्टा चतुरो ददृश्वान्
They spoke the truth, and indeed they acted; the Ṛbhus followed their own nature; the cups, shining brightly, Tvaṣṭṛ saw them, four, as if they were one.
द्वादश द्यून्यदगोह्यस्यातिथ्ये रणन्नृभवः ससन्तः । सुक्षेत्राकृण्वन्ननयन्त सिन्धून्धन्वातिष्ठन्नोषधीर्निम्नमापः
When the Ṛbhus, being guests, stayed twelve days in the hidden place, they made the fields fertile, led the rivers, stood on the deserts, and directed the plants and the flowing waters.
रथं ये चक्रुः सुवृतं नरेष्ठां ये धेनुं विश्वजुवं विश्वरूपाम् । त आ तक्षन्त्वृभवो रयिं नः स्ववसः स्वपसः सुहस्ताः
Those who made the well-fitted chariot, the best among men, who made the all-nourishing, all-shaped cow, may those Ṛbhus, self-sustaining, skillful, and with good hands, fashion wealth for us.
अपो ह्येषामजुषन्त देवा अभि क्रत्वा मनसा दीध्यानाः । वाजो देवानामभवत्सुकर्मेन्द्रस्य ऋभुक्षा वरुणस्य विभ्वा
The gods delighted in their works, shining with intent and mind; the vigor of the gods became excellent, belonging to Indra, to Ṛbhukṣa, and to Vibhvan, son of Varuṇa.
ये हरी मेधयोक्था मदन्त इन्द्राय चक्रुः सुयुजा ये अश्वा । ते रायस्पोषं द्रविणान्यस्मे धत्त ऋभवः क्षेमयन्तो न मित्रम्
Those who yoked the two bay steeds, wise and eager, who made well-yoked horses for Indra, may those Ṛbhus, bringing prosperity and wealth to us, grant us safety like a friend.
इदाह्नः पीतिमुत वो मदं धुर्न ऋते श्रान्तस्य सख्याय देवाः । ते नूनमस्मे ऋभवो वसूनि तृतीये अस्मिन्सवने दधात
Today, I seek your drink and your exhilaration, O gods, for the sake of friendship, not without effort; therefore, O Ṛbhus, place riches for us in this third pressing.
ऋभुर्विभ्वा वाज इन्द्रो नो अच्छेमं यज्ञं रत्नधेयोप यात । इदा हि वो धिषणा देव्यह्नामधात्पीतिं सं मदा अग्मता वः
May Ṛbhu, Vibhvan, Vāja, and Indra come to this sacrifice of ours, bearing the treasure; for today the divine Dhīṣaṇā has prepared the drink, let the exhilaration reach you.
विदानासो जन्मनो वाजरत्ना उत ऋतुभिरृभवो मादयध्वम् । सं वो मदा अग्मत सं पुरंधिः सुवीरामस्मे रयिमेरयध्वम्
O skillful ones, born for prizes and strength, rejoice, O Ṛbhus, in the seasons. Let your exhilaration come together, let your generosity unite, grant us heroic sons and bestow wealth upon us.
अयं वो यज्ञ ऋभवोऽकारि यमा मनुष्वत्प्रदिवो दधिध्वे । प्र वोऽच्छा जुजुषाणासो अस्थुरभूत विश्वे अग्रियोत वाजाः
This sacrifice, O Ṛbhus, has been prepared for you, which you have established among men in the heights. You have stood forth, eager for praise; all the foremost prizes have become yours.
अभूदु वो विधते रत्नधेयमिदा नरो दाशुषे मर्त्याय । पिबत वाजा ऋभवो ददे वो महि तृतीयं सवनं मदाय
For you, O givers, the treasure has been set apart, for the worshipper, for the mortal who serves. Drink, O Ṛbhus, the prize has been given to you; the third libation is offered for your delight.
आ वाजा यातोप न ऋभुक्षा महो नरो द्रविणसो गृणानाः । आ वः पीतयोऽभिपित्वे अह्नामिमा अस्तं नवस्व इव ग्मन्
Come, O prize-bearers, like Ṛbhus, O mighty ones, O givers of wealth, praised by men. Come to your drinkings, to the enjoyment of the days; these are present as if newly arrived at sunset.
आ नपातः शवसो यातनोपेमं यज्ञं नमसा हूयमानाः । सजोषसः सूरयो यस्य च स्थ मध्वः पात रत्नधा इन्द्रवन्तः
Come, O offspring of power, approach this sacrifice, invoked with reverence. United, O radiant ones, and those who are with you, drink the honeyed Soma, bearing treasures and accompanied by Indra.
सजोषा इन्द्र वरुणेन सोमं सजोषाः पाहि गिर्वणो मरुद्भिः । अग्रेपाभिरृतुपाभिः सजोषा ग्नास्पत्नीभी रत्नधाभिः सजोषाः
United with Indra and Varuṇa, drink Soma; united, O singer, with the Maruts. With the foremost, with those who guard the seasons, united with the wives of the gods, with those who bear treasures, united.
सजोषस आदित्यैर्मादयध्वं सजोषस ऋभवः पर्वतेभिः । सजोषसो दैव्येना सवित्रा सजोषसः सिन्धुभी रत्नधेभिः
United with the Ādityas, rejoice; united, O Ṛbhus, with the mountains. United with the divine Savitar, united with the rivers bearing treasures.
ये अश्विना ये पितरा य ऊती धेनुं ततक्षुरृभवो ये अश्वा । ये अंसत्रा य ऋधग्रोदसी ये विभ्वो नरः स्वपत्यानि चक्रुः
Those who are the Aśvins, those who are fathers, those who are helpers, those Ṛbhus who fashioned the cow, those who made the horse, those who made the two chariots separately, those skillful men who accomplished noble deeds.
