तस्मा अग्निर्भारतः शर्म यंसज्ज्योक्पश्यात्सूर्यमुच्चरन्तम् । य इन्द्राय सुनवामेत्याह नरे नर्याय नृतमाय नृणाम्
For him Agni, the Bharata, grants protection, so that he may see the rising sun clearly; he who says, 'Let us press Soma for Indra,' for the manly, the heroic, the best of men.
न तं जिनन्ति बहवो न दभ्रा उर्वस्मा अदितिः शर्म यंसत् । प्रियः सुकृत्प्रिय इन्द्रे मनायुः प्रियः सुप्रावीः प्रियो अस्य सोमी
Many do not surpass him, nor do the few; for him, wide Aditi grants protection. Dear to the good-doer, dear to Indra is the mindful one, dear is the well-guided, dear is his Soma-presser.
सुप्राव्यः प्राशुषाळेष वीरः सुष्वेः पक्तिं कृणुते केवलेन्द्रः । नासुष्वेरापिर्न सखा न जामिर्दुष्प्राव्योऽवहन्तेदवाचः
The well-guided, the swift, the strong man quickly prepares the portion for Indra alone. For the ill-guided, there is neither helper, nor friend, nor kinsman; the ill-guided one, voiceless, is carried away.
न रेवता पणिना सख्यमिन्द्रोऽसुन्वता सुतपाः सं गृणीते । आस्य वेदः खिदति हन्ति नग्नं वि सुष्वये पक्तये केवलो भूत्
Indra, the Soma-drinker, does not join in friendship with the wealthy Paṇi or the one who does not press Soma. His knowledge grieves, he strikes the naked one; for the well-guided, he alone prepares the portion.
इन्द्रं परेऽवरे मध्यमास इन्द्रं यान्तोऽवसितास इन्द्रम् । इन्द्रं क्षियन्त उत युध्यमाना इन्द्रं नरो वाजयन्तो हवन्ते
Indra is invoked by those before, those after, and those in the middle; those seeking help, those dwelling, and those fighting call upon Indra; men seeking victory invoke Indra.
अहं मनुरभवं सूर्यश्चाहं कक्षीवाँ ऋषिरस्मि विप्रः । अहं कुत्समार्जुनेयं न्यृञ्जेऽहं कविरुशना पश्यता मा
I am Manu, I am Sūrya; I am Kakṣīvat, the inspired sage. I have guided Kutsa, son of Arjuna; I am the poet, Uśanā—look upon me.
अहं भूमिमददामार्यायाहं वृष्टिं दाशुषे मर्त्याय । अहमपो अनयं वावशाना मम देवासो अनु केतमायन्
I gave the earth to the Arya; I gave rain to the worshipping mortal. I led forth the waters, eager to flow; the gods followed my guidance.
अहं पुरो मन्दसानो व्यैरं नव साकं नवतीः शम्बरस्य । शततमं वेश्यं सर्वताता दिवोदासमतिथिग्वं यदावम्
I destroyed the cities of the arrogant, together with ninety of Śambara's; I overthrew the hundredth stronghold, all for Divodāsa and Atithigva.
प्र सु ष विभ्यो मरुतो विरस्तु प्र श्येनः श्येनेभ्य आशुपत्वा । अचक्रया यत्स्वधया सुपर्णो हव्यं भरन्मनवे देवजुष्टम्
Let the hero's strength go forth for the Maruts; let the falcon, swift among falcons, fly. When the eagle, by its own power, brought the offering, beloved by the gods, to Manu.
भरद्यदि विरतो वेविजानः पथोरुणा मनोजवा असर्जि । तूयं ययौ मधुना सोम्येनोत श्रवो विविदे श्येनो अत्र
If the strong, wise one brings, let him carry the offering on the broad path, swift as thought. He went with your honey, O Soma; here the falcon found fame.
ऋजीपी श्येनो ददमानो अंशुं परावतः शकुनो मन्द्रं मदम् । सोमं भरद्दादृहाणो देवावान्दिवो अमुष्मादुत्तरादादाय
The straight-flying falcon, bringing the Soma, the delightful exhilaration, from afar, the bird, holding fast, brought the Soma, the god-invoked, from the highest heaven.
आदाय श्येनो अभरत्सोमं सहस्रं सवाँ अयुतं च साकम् । अत्रा पुरंधिरजहादरातीर्मदे सोमस्य मूरा अमूरः
Having brought it, the falcon carried the Soma, a thousand jars, and ten thousand together. Here the wise woman drove away the enemies; in the joy of Soma, the foolish became wise.
गर्भे नु सन्नन्वेषामवेदमहं देवानां जनिमानि विश्वा । शतं मा पुर आयसीररक्षन्नध श्येनो जवसा निरदीयम्
Even while still in the womb, I have come to know all the births of the gods; a hundred iron fortresses protected me, yet the falcon, with speed, carried me away.
न घा स मामप जोषं जभाराभीमास त्वक्षसा वीर्येण । ईर्मा पुरंधिरजहादरातीरुत वाताँ अतरच्छूशुवानः
Not even for a moment did he bear enmity toward me; with his own strength, he overcame the hostile ones. The wise woman did not abandon her resolve, and the eager wind moved swiftly.
अव यच्छ्येनो अस्वनीदध द्योर्वि यद्यदि वात ऊहुः पुरंधिम् । सृजद्यदस्मा अव ह क्षिपज्ज्यां कृशानुरस्ता मनसा भुरण्यन्
When the falcon descended, the horses neighed; whether the wind carried the wise woman across the sky, or she released herself, he swiftly let fly the bowstring, his mind intent and eager.
ऋजिप्य ईमिन्द्रावतो न भुज्युं श्येनो जभार बृहतो अधि ष्णोः । अन्तः पतत्पतत्र्यस्य पर्णमध यामनि प्रसितस्य तद्वेः
With the speed of a racing horse, the falcon bore Bhujyu, son of Tugra, from the vast expanse; within the flight of the triple-winged one, in the path of the swift, he carried him to safety.
अध श्वेतं कलशं गोभिरक्तमापिप्यानं मघवा शुक्रमन्धः । अध्वर्युभिः प्रयतं मध्वो अग्रमिन्द्रो मदाय प्रति धत्पिबध्यै शूरो मदाय प्रति धत्पिबध्यै
Then Maghavan poured the pure, white Soma, mixed with milk, into the shining vessel; with the priests, prepared and foremost of the sweet drink, Indra, the hero, set it forth to drink for his exhilaration.
त्वा युजा तव तत्सोम सख्य इन्द्रो अपो मनवे सस्रुतस्कः । अहन्नहिमरिणात्सप्त सिन्धूनपावृणोदपिहितेव खानि
With you as ally, O Soma, Indra, flowing for Manu, cleaved the waters; he slew the serpent, released the seven rivers, and opened the closed channels as if uncovering hidden passages.
त्वा युजा नि खिदत्सूर्यस्येन्द्रश्चक्रं सहसा सद्य इन्दो । अधि ष्णुना बृहता वर्तमानं महो द्रुहो अप विश्वायु धायि
With you as ally, O Soma, Indra, with a single blow, struck down the wheel of the sun; with his vast might he set in motion the great course, removing all obstacles from the path.
अहन्निन्द्रो अदहदग्निरिन्दो पुरा दस्यून्मध्यंदिनादभीके । दुर्गे दुरोणे क्रत्वा न यातां पुरू सहस्रा शर्वा नि बर्हीत्
Indra struck, Agni burned, O Soma, in ancient times, the Dasyus at midday in the battle; in the stronghold, in the dwelling, with wisdom they advanced, and the mighty ones cast down thousands of enemies.
विश्वस्मात्सीमधमाँ इन्द्र दस्यून्विशो दासीरकृणोरप्रशस्ताः । अबाधेथाममृणतं नि शत्रूनविन्देथामपचितिं वधत्रैः
From every side, O Indra, you have scattered the Dasyus, making the Dasa peoples insignificant; you have subdued, destroyed, and struck down the enemies, and gained renown by your weapons.
एवा सत्यं मघवाना युवं तदिन्द्रश्च सोमोर्वमश्व्यं गोः । आदर्दृतमपिहितान्यश्ना रिरिचथुः क्षाश्चित्ततृदाना
Thus, O generous ones, Indra and Soma, you made the wide expanse rich in horses and cattle; you broke open what was closed, you released the waters, and the fields became abundant.
आ न स्तुत उप वाजेभिरूती इन्द्र याहि हरिभिर्मन्दसानः । तिरश्चिदर्यः सवना पुरूण्याङ्गूषेभिर्गृणानः सत्यराधाः
Come to us, O Indra, praised, with your steeds, delighting in the Soma, for the contest; even from afar, you reach the many offerings, O true benefactor, praised with songs.
आ हि ष्मा याति नर्यश्चिकित्वान्हूयमानः सोतृभिरुप यज्ञम् । स्वश्वो यो अभीरुर्मन्यमानः सुष्वाणेभिर्मदति सं ह वीरैः
Indeed, the wise man comes, summoned by the offerers, to the sacrifice; he, confident in his horses, rejoices with the eager, and delights together with the heroes.
श्रावयेदस्य कर्णा वाजयध्यै जुष्टामनु प्र दिशं मन्दयध्यै । उद्वावृषाणो राधसे तुविष्मान्करन्न इन्द्रः सुतीर्थाभयं च
Let him make his ears attentive for the prize, to gladden the beloved direction; raising his voice for wealth, mighty, Indra, making the paths easy and fearless.
अच्छा यो गन्ता नाधमानमूती इत्था विप्रं हवमानं गृणन्तम् । उप त्मनि दधानो धुर्याशून्सहस्राणि शतानि वज्रबाहुः
He who will come to the singer, not neglecting the call, thus to the inspired one, praising and invoking; placing at his side swift horses, Indra of the thunderbolt, hundreds and thousands.
त्वोतासो मघवन्निन्द्र विप्रा वयं ते स्याम सूरयो गृणन्तः । भेजानासो बृहद्दिवस्य राय आकाय्यस्य दावने पुरुक्षोः
With your help, O generous Indra, may we, the inspired ones, be your praisers; sharing in the great wealth of the broad sky, for the gaining of the abundant, much-desired treasure.
नकिरिन्द्र त्वदुत्तरो न ज्यायाँ अस्ति वृत्रहन् । नकिरेवा यथा त्वम्
No one, O Indra, is superior or greater than you, slayer of Vṛtra; no one at all is like you.
सत्रा ते अनु कृष्टयो विश्वा चक्रेव वावृतुः । सत्रा महाँ असि श्रुतः
All the peoples together have turned to you, as spokes to the nave; together you are renowned as great.
विश्वे चनेदना त्वा देवास इन्द्र युयुधुः । यदहा नक्तमातिरः
Even all the gods, O Indra, contended with you, when you surpassed the night with the day.
