Indra, mighty and eager, has grown vast, he has filled both heaven and earth with greatness; from this, his majesty spreads out, for he has become all the worlds.
Shakra, knowing all heroic deeds, has distributed waters with his companions, by his will; even stones they broke with words, the Ushijas released the cattle rich in milk.
He drove away Vritra, who held back the waters, he wielded the thunderbolt, and earth was conscious; he released the streams and oceans, O strong hero, you became lord by your might.
When, O much-invoked, you shattered the rock, the ancient Sarama appeared for you; be our leader, you see abundant wealth, breaking the enclosures with the Angiras as we praise.
Approach the sage, O Maghavan, with men, in striving, shining, not low; with your aids, grant him strength in the call, let not the crafty, unholy Dasyu harm us.
Come, destroyer of Dasyus, with your mind, to that place; let Kutsa be your companion in friendship; sit in your own abode, in your true form, let the wise woman discern your nature.
You go with Kutsa, sharing the chariot, O helper, as the lord of the two bay steeds of the wind; seeking to win the prize, swift as thought, when you, O wise one, blazing, adorned the wide spaces.
For Kutsa, you cast down Śuṣṇa, the parched one, from his seat, the ancient foe, the thousandfold Kuyava; at once you destroyed the Dasyus with Kutsa, and the sun made the great wheel appear in the distance.
You struck down Pipru, the roaring beast, for Ṛjiśvan, for Vaidathina; you cast down fifty black fortresses from the thousand, as age shatters cities.
Clothed in the form of the sun at dawn, you bear the visible form of immortality; like a wild beast, an elephant, seizing strength, like a lion, fearsome, bearing weapons.
Desiring wealth, they came to Indra, delighting in the well-praised, as at the soma-offering; longing for glory, rejoicing in hymns, like a splendid, well-seen abundance.
We call upon that Indra, easy to invoke, who has accomplished many heroic deeds; who, for the worshipper, brings the prize swiftly, with wondrous aid.
When your sharp thunderbolt falls among people, O hero, in some gathering, when your fierce wrath arises against the foe, then, O guardian, be mindful of our bodies.
You have become the protector of Vāmadeva's prayers, you are the friend, the wolf, in the contest for the prize; all our thoughts follow you, O widely-praised one, may you be universal aid for the worshipper.
With these men, O Indra, with your companions, O bountiful one, may we prevail in every contest; like the heavens with their splendors, may the noble ones support us, may we rejoice in the nights and many autumns.
To this Indra, the bull, the mighty, is the hymn, as the Bhṛgus to their chariot; now, as before, may you not abandon our friendship, O strong one, guardian of our bodies.
Now praised, now lauded, O Indra, may you pour forth sustenance for the worshipper, as rivers do; a new hymn has been composed for you, O wielder of the bays, may we, with insight, be ever your charioteers.
You are great, O Indra; for you, indeed, the earth and sky, by your might, consider your power supreme; you slew Vṛtra with your strength, you released the rivers, you devoured the coiled ones.
At your birth, the sky trembled with your force, the earth trembled with fear of your own might; the mountains shook, the fair hills quaked, the valleys split, and the waters rushed forth.
You split the mountain with your strength, wielding the thunderbolt, revealing the hidden, with your power; you slew Vṛtra with the thunderbolt, delighting, the waters rushed swiftly, their strength destroyed.
The sky considered itself the begetter of your heroic power, O Indra; the most skillful made you, who begot the sun, the mighty thunderbolt, unshaken, like the foundation of the seat.
He alone stretches forth the two worlds, the king of peoples, much-invoked Indra; all the gods rejoice in his truth, in the bounty of the generous god who is praised.
All the Somas became his, all the exhilarating draughts of the great one; you became the lord of riches for the givers of wealth, O Indra, to distribute all peoples.
You, indeed, from the beginning of your birth, O Indra, have distributed all peoples; you, O bountiful one, with the thunderbolt, cut off the coiled one lying across the path.
I have upheld Indra, the mighty, the powerful, the great, the boundless bull with the good thunderbolt; he who slew Vṛtra, who wins the prize, who gives gifts, the bountiful Maghavan, rich in treasures.
This Maghavan, chosen, acts together with the right, he alone hears in the battles; this one brings the prize, he wins what he seeks—may we be dear to him in friendship.
This one is heard when conquering, and also when striking; this one, too, sets the cattle free by battle. When Indra makes his wrath true, all that is firm trembles and moves away from him.
Indra won the cattle together, the gold together, the horses together—Maghavan, who has many (gifts); with these men, the most heroic of men, he divides wealth, he gathers riches.
How much, indeed, does Indra surpass his mother? How much his father, the begetter, who begot him? He stirs his might again and again, like the wind driven by roaring thunderclouds.
You, Maghavan, make the perishable imperishable; you stir up dust in confusion. Like the sky breaking with thunderbolts, Maghavan, grant wealth to the worshipper.
