या ते जिह्वा मधुमती सुमेधा अग्ने देवेषूच्यत उरूची । तयेह विश्वाँ अवसे यजत्राना सादय पायया चा मधूनि
Your tongue, O Agni, sweet and wise, is spoken of among the gods, far-reaching. With it here, bring all those worthy of worship for help, and let them drink the sweet offerings.
या ते अग्ने पर्वतस्येव धारासश्चन्ती पीपयद्देव चित्रा । तामस्मभ्यं प्रमतिं जातवेदो वसो रास्व सुमतिं विश्वजन्याम्
O Agni, the streams of yours, like those of a mountain, flow forth and nourish, O wondrous god. Grant to us, O Jātavedas, O gracious one, your favor and universal good will.
धेनुः प्रत्नस्य काम्यं दुहानान्तः पुत्रश्चरति दक्षिणायाः । आ द्योतनिं वहति शुभ्रयामोषस स्तोमो अश्विनावजीगः
The cow of ancient desire gives milk, and within, the son moves toward the right. She carries brightness to the shining one; the praise for the Ashvins has been composed at dawn.
सुयुग्वहन्ति प्रति वामृतेनोर्ध्वा भवन्ति पितरेव मेधाः । जरेथामस्मद्वि पणेर्मनीषां युवोरवश्चकृमा यातमर्वाक्
With well-yoked horses she brings you nectar; the offerings rise upward like wisdom to a father. May you drive away the thoughts of the greedy; we have turned our prayers to you, approaching from near.
सुयुग्भिरश्वैः सुवृता रथेन दस्राविमं शृणुतं श्लोकमद्रेः । किमङ्ग वां प्रत्यवर्तिं गमिष्ठाहुर्विप्रासो अश्विना पुराजाः
With well-yoked horses, with a well-built chariot, O wondrous ones, listen to this hymn from the stone. What, indeed, is your returning journey, O Ashvins, which the ancient sages have spoken of?
आ मन्येथामा गतं कच्चिदेवैर्विश्वे जनासो अश्विना हवन्ते । इमा हि वां गोऋजीका मधूनि प्र मित्रासो न ददुरुस्रो अग्रे
May you consider, may you come, perhaps all the people call upon you, O Ashvins. These sweet things for you, like the gifts of friends, the Mitras have given first in the beginning.
तिरः पुरू चिदश्विना रजांस्याङ्गूषो वां मघवाना जनेषु । एह यातं पथिभिर्देवयानैर्दस्राविमे वां निधयो मधूनाम्
Across many realms, O Ashvins, your call resounds; your praises are heard among the generous people. Come here by divine paths, O wondrous ones; here are your stores of honey.
पुराणमोकः सख्यं शिवं वां युवोर्नरा द्रविणं जह्नाव्याम् । पुनः कृण्वानाः सख्या शिवानि मध्वा मदेम सह नू समानाः
Your ancient dwelling, your auspicious friendship, O young men, your wealth in the waters of Jahnu. Renewing auspicious friendships, let us rejoice together with honey, now united.
अश्विना वायुना युवं सुदक्षा नियुद्भिश्च सजोषसा युवाना । नासत्या तिरोअह्न्यं जुषाणा सोमं पिबतमस्रिधा सुदानू
O Ashvins, with the wind, you are youthful and skillful, accompanied by your attendants, united and young. O Nasatyas, accepting the day's offering, drink the Soma, unstinting and generous.
अश्विना परि वामिषः पुरूचीरीयुर्गीर्भिर्यतमाना अमृध्राः । रथो ह वामृतजा अद्रिजूतः परि द्यावापृथिवी याति सद्यः
O Ashvins, your many gifts go forth, surrounded by words, striving, unfailing. Your chariot, born of nectar and driven by the stone, swiftly traverses heaven and earth.
अश्विना मधुषुत्तमो युवाकुः सोमस्तं पातमा गतं दुरोणे । रथो ह वां भूरि वर्पः करिक्रत्सुतावतो निष्कृतमागमिष्ठः
O Ashvins, the best honeyed Soma is prepared for you; come and drink it in the home. Your chariot, with great form, skillfully made, comes forth, drawn by the horses of the Soma pressing.
मित्रो जनान्यातयति ब्रुवाणो मित्रो दाधार पृथिवीमुत द्याम् । मित्रः कृष्टीरनिमिषाभि चष्टे मित्राय हव्यं घृतवज्जुहोत
Mitra guides the peoples by his speech; Mitra upholds the earth and the sky. Mitra watches over the clans with unblinking eyes; offer the clarified butter to Mitra as an offering.
प्र स मित्र मर्तो अस्तु प्रयस्वान्यस्त आदित्य शिक्षति व्रतेन । न हन्यते न जीयते त्वोतो नैनमंहो अश्नोत्यन्तितो न दूरात्
Let the mortal be devoted to Mitra, the generous one, who, as an Aditya, instructs through his law. He is not harmed, nor does he perish; protected, no distress reaches him, neither from near nor from far.
अनमीवास इळया मदन्तो मितज्ञवो वरिमन्ना पृथिव्याः । आदित्यस्य व्रतमुपक्षियन्तो वयं मित्रस्य सुमतौ स्याम
Free from sickness, rejoicing with offerings, knowing Mitra, they move in the wide expanse of earth. Following the law of Aditya, may we be in the favor of Mitra.
अयं मित्रो नमस्यः सुशेवो राजा सुक्षत्रो अजनिष्ट वेधाः । तस्य वयं सुमतौ यज्ञियस्यापि भद्रे सौमनसे स्याम
This Mitra, worthy of reverence, gentle, king, with noble rule, has been born, the wise one. In his favor, O worshipful one, may we be in blessed happiness.
महाँ आदित्यो नमसोपसद्यो यातयज्जनो गृणते सुशेवः । तस्मा एतत्पन्यतमाय जुष्टमग्नौ मित्राय हविरा जुहोत
The great Aditya, approachable by reverence, guides the people, praised, gentle. To him, the most beloved, offer the clarified butter in the fire, as an offering to Mitra.
मित्रस्य चर्षणीधृतोऽवो देवस्य सानसि । द्युम्नं चित्रश्रवस्तमम्
The protection of Mitra, supporter of the peoples, the favor of the god, brings splendor and renowned glory.
अभि यो महिना दिवं मित्रो बभूव सप्रथाः । अभि श्रवोभिः पृथिवीम्
By his greatness, Mitra has spread over the sky; by his fame, he has covered the earth.
मित्राय पञ्च येमिरे जना अभिष्टिशवसे । स देवान्विश्वान्बिभर्ति
To Mitra, five peoples have submitted for help; he bears all the gods.
मित्रो देवेष्वायुषु जनाय वृक्तबर्हिषे । इष इष्टव्रता अकः
Mitra, among the gods and in the lives of men, for the one who spreads the sacred grass, you have become the friend, steadfast in your chosen vows.
इहेह वो मनसा बन्धुता नर उशिजो जग्मुरभि तानि वेदसा । याभिर्मायाभिः प्रतिजूतिवर्पसः सौधन्वना यज्ञियं भागमानश
Here, with your minds, O men, you have come together in kinship; the Usij-sages have approached with knowledge, by those very arts and forms with which, O Saudhanvanas, you have attained your worthy share of the sacrifice.
याभिः शचीभिश्चमसाँ अपिंशत यया धिया गामरिणीत चर्मणः । येन हरी मनसा निरतक्षत तेन देवत्वमृभवः समानश
By those powers and skills you pressed the cups, by that thought you drew the cow from the hide; with that mind you shaped the two horses—by that, O Ribhus, you became divine.
इन्द्रस्य सख्यमृभवः समानशुर्मनोर्नपातो अपसो दधन्विरे । सौधन्वनासो अमृतत्वमेरिरे विष्ट्वी शमीभिः सुकृतः सुकृत्यया
O Ribhus, you became companions of Indra, grandsons of Manu, you set the waters in motion; O Saudhanvanas, you attained immortality, skillful with the Shami trees, by your own good works.
इन्द्रेण याथ सरथं सुते सचाँ अथो वशानां भवथा सह श्रिया । न वः प्रतिमै सुकृतानि वाघतः सौधन्वना ऋभवो वीर्याणि च
With Indra you ride together in the chariot at the pressing of the Soma; and you become lords of wealth, shining in splendor; your deeds, O Saudhanvana Ribhus, and your heroic acts, none can match.
इन्द्र ऋभुभिर्वाजवद्भिः समुक्षितं सुतं सोममा वृषस्वा गभस्त्योः । धियेषितो मघवन्दाशुषो गृहे सौधन्वनेभिः सह मत्स्वा नृभिः
Indra, together with the Ribhus rich in strength, drink the pressed Soma, purified and strong, with your hands; inspired by thought, O Maghavan, rejoice in the house of the eager one, together with the Saudhanvanas.
इन्द्र ऋभुमान्वाजवान्मत्स्वेह नोऽस्मिन्सवने शच्या पुरुष्टुत । इमानि तुभ्यं स्वसराणि येमिरे व्रता देवानां मनुषश्च धर्मभिः
Indra, rich in Ribhus and strength, delight here with us in this pressing, O much-praised one, with your power; these sisterly rites have been prepared for you, by the laws of gods and men.
इन्द्र ऋभुभिर्वाजिभिर्वाजयन्निह स्तोमं जरितुरुप याहि यज्ञियम् । शतं केतेभिरिषिरेभिरायवे सहस्रणीथो अध्वरस्य होमनि
Indra, together with the Ribhus, bestowers of strength, come here to this song of praise, to the worthy sacrifice; with a hundred banners, with gifts for the seeker, with a thousand aids at the offering of the ritual.
उषो वाजेन वाजिनि प्रचेता स्तोमं जुषस्व गृणतो मघोनि । पुराणी देवि युवतिः पुरंधिरनु व्रतं चरसि विश्ववारे
O Dawn, wise and bountiful, accept the hymn of praise from the singer; ancient goddess, ever young, ever generous, you follow the law, O all-encompassing one.
उषो देव्यमर्त्या वि भाहि चन्द्ररथा सूनृता ईरयन्ती । आ त्वा वहन्तु सुयमासो अश्वा हिरण्यवर्णां पृथुपाजसो ये
O divine, immortal Dawn, shine forth, with a radiant chariot, bringing sweet speech; let the well-yoked horses carry you here, golden in color, broad in strength.
उषः प्रतीची भुवनानि विश्वोर्ध्वा तिष्ठस्यमृतस्य केतुः । समानमर्थं चरणीयमाना चक्रमिव नव्यस्या ववृत्स्व
Dawn, facing us, you reveal all the worlds; you stand above as the sign of immortality; moving with a common purpose, like a wheel, grow anew each day.
