पदे इव निहिते दस्मे अन्तस्तयोरन्यद्गुह्यमाविरन्यत् । सध्रीचीना पथ्या सा विषूची महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
As if a foot were set within, O wondrous one, between them one is hidden, one is manifest. The path is straight, but one strays; the great, single lordship of the gods.
आ धेनवो धुनयन्तामशिश्वीः सबर्दुघाः शशया अप्रदुग्धाः । नव्यानव्या युवतयो भवन्तीर्महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
Let the cows, ever-yielding, milk for us, abundant, unwearied, never failing. Ever new, ever young they become; the great, single lordship of the gods.
यदन्यासु वृषभो रोरवीति सो अन्यस्मिन्यूथे नि दधाति रेतः । स हि क्षपावान्स भगः स राजा महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
When the bull bellows among the others, he places his seed in another herd. He is the lord of the nights, he is the dispenser, he is the king; the great, single lordship of the gods.
वीरस्य नु स्वश्व्यं जनासः प्र नु वोचाम विदुरस्य देवाः । षोळ्हा युक्ताः पञ्चपञ्चा वहन्ति महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
Let us now proclaim the heroic nobility, the horse-wealth of the people, the wisdom known by the gods. Sixteen yoked, five by five, draw it; the great, single lordship of the gods.
देवस्त्वष्टा सविता विश्वरूपः पुपोष प्रजाः पुरुधा जजान । इमा च विश्वा भुवनान्यस्य महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
The god Tvaṣṭṛ, Savitṛ, of manifold forms, has nourished the creatures, has generated them in many ways. And all these worlds are his; the great, single lordship of the gods.
मही समैरच्चम्वा समीची उभे ते अस्य वसुना न्यृष्टे । शृण्वे वीरो विन्दमानो वसूनि महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
The great earth, even and well-ordered, and the broad sky—both are established by his wealth. The heroic one, seeking riches, is heard; the great, single lordship of the gods.
इमां च नः पृथिवीं विश्वधाया उप क्षेति हितमित्रो न राजा । पुरःसदः शर्मसदो न वीरा महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
This earth, all-supporting, abides for us, like a king who is a friend to all. Like heroes sitting in the forecourt, in the shelter; the great, single lordship of the gods.
निष्षिध्वरीस्त ओषधीरुतापो रयिं त इन्द्र पृथिवी बिभर्ति । सखायस्ते वामभाजः स्याम महद्देवानामसुरत्वमेकम्
The plants, the waters, the earth, O Indra, bear wealth for you. May we be your friends, sharing in your gifts; the great, single lordship of the gods.
न ता मिनन्ति मायिनो न धीरा व्रता देवानां प्रथमा ध्रुवाणि । न रोदसी अद्रुहा वेद्याभिर्न पर्वता निनमे तस्थिवांसः
Neither the cunning nor the wise diminish the first, steadfast ordinances of the gods. The two worlds, unbetraying, with their known boundaries, nor the mountains, standing firm, have not declined.
षड्भाराँ एको अचरन्बिभर्त्यृतं वर्षिष्ठमुप गाव आगुः । तिस्रो महीरुपरास्तस्थुरत्या गुहा द्वे निहिते दर्श्येका
Six bearers, one moves alone, upholding the highest order; the cows have come near. Three great ones stand above, steadfast; two are hidden in secret, one is seen.
त्रिपाजस्यो वृषभो विश्वरूप उत त्र्युधा पुरुध प्रजावान् । त्र्यनीकः पत्यते माहिनावान्स रेतोधा वृषभः शश्वतीनाम्
The bull with threefold birth, of manifold forms, and threefold nature, rich in offspring. Three-faced, he rules, mighty; he is the seed-holder, the eternal bull.
अभीक आसां पदवीरबोध्यादित्यानामह्वे चारु नाम । आपश्चिदस्मा अरमन्त देवीः पृथग्व्रजन्तीः परि षीमवृञ्जन्
Awaken to the paths of these, I call upon the beautiful name of the Ādityas. Even the divine waters delight in him, moving separately, they all surround him.
त्री षधस्था सिन्धवस्त्रिः कवीनामुत त्रिमाता विदथेषु सम्राट् । ऋतावरीर्योषणास्तिस्रो अप्यास्त्रिरा दिवो विदथे पत्यमानाः
Three are the abodes, three the rivers, three the wise ones, and three the mothers, sovereign in the assemblies. The righteous maidens, three, and three from heaven, ruling in the assembly.
त्रिरा दिवः सवितर्वार्याणि दिवेदिव आ सुव त्रिर्नो अह्नः । त्रिधातु राय आ सुवा वसूनि भग त्रातर्धिषणे सातये धाः
Thrice from heaven, Savitṛ, bring us blessings; day by day, bring us threefold light. Grant us wealth in three measures, O Bhaga, O Protector, O Dhīṣaṇā, for our attainment.
त्रिरा दिवः सविता सोषवीति राजाना मित्रावरुणा सुपाणी । आपश्चिदस्य रोदसी चिदुर्वी रत्नं भिक्षन्त सवितुः सवाय
Thrice from heaven, Savitṛ, with his strength, and the kings Mitra and Varuṇa with fair hands. Even the waters, and both the worlds, seek the treasure for the impulse of Savitṛ.
त्रिरुत्तमा दूणशा रोचनानि त्रयो राजन्त्यसुरस्य वीराः । ऋतावान इषिरा दूळभासस्त्रिरा दिवो विदथे सन्तु देवाः
Three highest shining realms, three heroes rule of the mighty lord. Righteous, powerful, hard to overcome; thrice from heaven, may the gods be present in the assembly.
प्र मे विविक्वाँ अविदन्मनीषां धेनुं चरन्तीं प्रयुतामगोपाम् । सद्यश्चिद्या दुदुहे भूरि धासेरिन्द्रस्तदग्निः पनितारो अस्याः
The wise have discerned for me, with insight, the cow wandering, unguarded. Even at once she yields abundant milk; Indra, Agni, and the seekers have obtained it from her.
इन्द्रः सु पूषा वृषणा सुहस्ता दिवो न प्रीताः शशयं दुदुह्रे । विश्वे यदस्यां रणयन्त देवाः प्र वोऽत्र वसवः सुम्नमश्याम्
Indra and Pūṣan, both mighty and with good hands, like those who delight in the sky, have milked her. When all the gods strove in her, O Vasus, may we here find your favor.
या जामयो वृष्ण इच्छन्ति शक्तिं नमस्यन्तीर्जानते गर्भमस्मिन् । अच्छा पुत्रं धेनवो वावशाना महश्चरन्ति बिभ्रतं वपूंषि
The wives of the bull desire his power, honoring him, they know the embryo within him. The cows, longing for their calf, move about, bearing wondrous forms.
अच्छा विवक्मि रोदसी सुमेके ग्राव्णो युजानो अध्वरे मनीषा । इमा उ ते मनवे भूरिवारा ऊर्ध्वा भवन्ति दर्शता यजत्राः
I speak forth to both worlds, well-joined, with the stone yoked in the rite, with insight. These, O you of many gifts, rise up for Manu, splendid, worthy of worship.
या ते जिह्वा मधुमती सुमेधा अग्ने देवेषूच्यत उरूची । तयेह विश्वाँ अवसे यजत्राना सादय पायया चा मधूनि
Your tongue, O Agni, sweet and wise, is spoken of among the gods, far-reaching. With it here, bring all those worthy of worship for help, and let them drink the sweet offerings.
या ते अग्ने पर्वतस्येव धारासश्चन्ती पीपयद्देव चित्रा । तामस्मभ्यं प्रमतिं जातवेदो वसो रास्व सुमतिं विश्वजन्याम्
O Agni, the streams of yours, like those of a mountain, flow forth and nourish, O wondrous god. Grant to us, O Jātavedas, O gracious one, your favor and universal good will.
धेनुः प्रत्नस्य काम्यं दुहानान्तः पुत्रश्चरति दक्षिणायाः । आ द्योतनिं वहति शुभ्रयामोषस स्तोमो अश्विनावजीगः
The cow of ancient desire gives milk, and within, the son moves toward the right. She carries brightness to the shining one; the praise for the Ashvins has been composed at dawn.
सुयुग्वहन्ति प्रति वामृतेनोर्ध्वा भवन्ति पितरेव मेधाः । जरेथामस्मद्वि पणेर्मनीषां युवोरवश्चकृमा यातमर्वाक्
With well-yoked horses she brings you nectar; the offerings rise upward like wisdom to a father. May you drive away the thoughts of the greedy; we have turned our prayers to you, approaching from near.
सुयुग्भिरश्वैः सुवृता रथेन दस्राविमं शृणुतं श्लोकमद्रेः । किमङ्ग वां प्रत्यवर्तिं गमिष्ठाहुर्विप्रासो अश्विना पुराजाः
With well-yoked horses, with a well-built chariot, O wondrous ones, listen to this hymn from the stone. What, indeed, is your returning journey, O Ashvins, which the ancient sages have spoken of?
आ मन्येथामा गतं कच्चिदेवैर्विश्वे जनासो अश्विना हवन्ते । इमा हि वां गोऋजीका मधूनि प्र मित्रासो न ददुरुस्रो अग्रे
May you consider, may you come, perhaps all the people call upon you, O Ashvins. These sweet things for you, like the gifts of friends, the Mitras have given first in the beginning.
तिरः पुरू चिदश्विना रजांस्याङ्गूषो वां मघवाना जनेषु । एह यातं पथिभिर्देवयानैर्दस्राविमे वां निधयो मधूनाम्
Across many realms, O Ashvins, your call resounds; your praises are heard among the generous people. Come here by divine paths, O wondrous ones; here are your stores of honey.
पुराणमोकः सख्यं शिवं वां युवोर्नरा द्रविणं जह्नाव्याम् । पुनः कृण्वानाः सख्या शिवानि मध्वा मदेम सह नू समानाः
Your ancient dwelling, your auspicious friendship, O young men, your wealth in the waters of Jahnu. Renewing auspicious friendships, let us rejoice together with honey, now united.
अश्विना वायुना युवं सुदक्षा नियुद्भिश्च सजोषसा युवाना । नासत्या तिरोअह्न्यं जुषाणा सोमं पिबतमस्रिधा सुदानू
O Ashvins, with the wind, you are youthful and skillful, accompanied by your attendants, united and young. O Nasatyas, accepting the day's offering, drink the Soma, unstinting and generous.
अश्विना परि वामिषः पुरूचीरीयुर्गीर्भिर्यतमाना अमृध्राः । रथो ह वामृतजा अद्रिजूतः परि द्यावापृथिवी याति सद्यः
O Ashvins, your many gifts go forth, surrounded by words, striving, unfailing. Your chariot, born of nectar and driven by the stone, swiftly traverses heaven and earth.
