Come near, O Kuśikas, be attentive; release the horse for wealth, grant it to Sudās. The king has crushed Vṛtra; he worships in the east and west, the best across the earth.
He who has satisfied both these worlds, heaven and earth, I have praised Indra. The prayer of Viśvāmitra protects this Bhārata people.
The Viśvāmitras have offered prayers to Indra, the wielder of the thunderbolt; may he grant us abundant gifts.
What are your cows doing among the Kīkaṭas? They do not yield milk, nor do they feel the heat. Bring us the wisdom of Pramaganda; O generous one, break the low branch for us.
The serpent-like thought, resisting, grew vast, given by Jamadagni. The daughter of the sun spread forth immortal, undecaying fame among the gods.
The serpent-like fame has arisen among these, spreading glory among the peoples of Pañcajana. That winged one, bearing new life, which Palastya and the Jamadagnis gave to me.
Let the two cows be firm, let the sheep be unharmed; do not yoke the yoke to the grass, nor to the plough. May Indra grant protection in Pātalya; let him ward off harm, join with us.
Place strength in our bodies, O Indra, strength in our deeds. Strength for our children, for our offspring, for life; for you are the giver of strength.
Spread out the essence of the khadira tree, place vigor in the trembling śiṃśapā. O axle, be firm, be strengthened, be steady; do not depart from us, drive away harm.
This forest tree is ours; let it neither harm nor injure us. With prosperity, let it dwell in our homes, and at release.
Indra, with abundant and excellent companions, today grant us the best, O mighty one, conqueror. Whoever hates us, let him be defeated; whom we hate, let our breath abandon him.
Even the axe burns, even the knife cuts; even the oven, when kindled, foams up its contents, O Indra.
People do not notice the arrow; thinking themselves clever, they lead the cattle astray. They do not drive the swift horse with the swift, nor do they lead the donkey ahead of the horses.
These sons of Bharata, O Indra, know not the fatherhood, nor the grandfatherhood. They harness the horse for death, not for permanence; they lead the bow-fitted horse around in battle.
This hymn, made for the great, for knowledge, always created for praise, they have taken up. May the noble hosts hear us; may Agni, eternal in the heavens, hear.
Sing greatly for the great, for heaven; for earth, desire moves within me, knowing. In whose praise, at the rites, the gods delight together with their companions.
May the truth of you two, heaven and earth, be firm; let it bring us great prosperity. This is my homage to heaven, O Agni, and to earth; I worship, I go seeking the treasure.
Indeed, your ancient, truth-upholding heavens have expanded, you who speak what is true; even men, in the assembly and in the contest for glory, have honored you, O earth, with manifold knowledge.
Who truly knows, who here can declare, to which of the gods the right path leads? Among them, the lowest seats are seen, and those who are far, in the secret rites, in the hidden vows.
The sage with human sight has beheld her, rejoicing in the womb of truth, spread out; they have made diverse abodes, as the weaver does, united in intention, in mutual understanding.
Together and apart, far and near, they stand awake in the steadfast place; and the sisters, becoming young women, speak forth the names of the pairs.
All these births are distinctly separated, bearing the greatness of the gods, they do not tremble; the moving and the fixed, the one lord rules all, the flying, the wandering, the diverse, the born.
Ever ancient, I approach the middle regions, from the great father's origin I am born for us; where the gods, as guides, have stood together, on the broad path, apart, within.
This hymn I proclaim to heaven and earth; may they of broad wombs listen, with Agni as their tongue; Mitra, the sovereign, Varuna, the youths, the Adityas, the sages, the renowned.
Savitṛ, with golden hands, with beautiful tongue, three times from heaven, ruling in the assembly; among the gods, O Savitṛ, you have proclaimed the hymn; grant us all-surpassing good.
The skillful, good-handed, self-praising, truth-abiding god Tvaṣṭṛ, may he bestow those things for our aid; you with Pūṣan, O Ṛbhus, rejoice, you who raise the stones upright at the sacrifice.
With chariots flashing like lightning, O Maruts, armed with spears, sons of heaven, born of truth, tireless; Sarasvatī, worthy of sacrifice, may she hear; Dhātṛ, grant us wealth with strong heroes, swift.
To Viṣṇu, hymns, mighty in many ways, and praises, as workers go to Bhaga for a share; the wide-striding, whose call is ancient, whom many young mothers, the creators, do not overpower.
Indra, ruling with all powers, has filled both heavens with his greatness; the destroyer of cities, slayer of Vṛtra, strong with his army, may he bring together for us abundant wealth.
Nāsatyas, my fathers, kin-inquirers, the beautiful name of the Aśvins; you are indeed givers of riches, of all treasures, you guard the gift, unerring, undeceived.
