Saramā discovered the broken path of the mountain, the ancient way, accompanied by her kin. She led the way for the well-footed ones, first knowing, she sang forth the sound.
The most inspired went as a friend, the mountain released the embryo for the doer of good. The youthful hero arranged the offering, then the Angiras shone forth immediately.

With longing for cows, they pressed forward with their minds, making hymns for immortality. This indeed is the abode of their abundance, by which they served the months with truth.
Seeing, they rejoiced, approaching their own; the ancient ones, milkers of the seed, gave forth milk. The two worlds echoed with their sound; at birth, the cows established the heroes in their stalls.
He, slayer of Vṛtra, sat with offerings among the newborn; Indra released the cows with hymns. Broad for him, bearing ghee, the desirable cow gave sweet honeyed milk.
Even for the Father they made a dwelling, vast and radiant, the skilled ones indeed proclaimed it; the mothers, supporting with the support, sat measuring upwards with force.
When the great intelligence established the virile, ever-growing, all-pervading one between heaven and earth, in whom blameless, harmonious songs, all-powerful, are gathered for Indra, unassailable.
I seek your friendship, mighty one; O slayer of Vṛtra, your many bands advance; we have come to the great praise of the sun—be our protector, O generous one, be mindful of us.
Knowing the vast, many-splendored field, he gave it, distributing the chariot to his companions equally; Indra, shining among men, generated together the sun, dawn, and fire for the path.
Even those who were behind, O all-pervading, O householder, you set forth together, all shining; purifying the honey with the poets through the filters, with the days they fashion the gifts with acts.
After the dark one, the earth's riches are revealed; both, by the greatness of the sun, are to be worshipped; around your greatness, O Indra, the desired, the praiseworthy, your friends strive to encompass.
Be the lord, O slayer of Vṛtra, of true words, of all speech, the bull, the bestower of strength; come to us with auspicious friendships, great one, with mighty, generous aids, O swift one.
Honoring you, O Angiras, with reverence, I make a new hymn for the ancient one; drive away the abundant, godless deceits, and, O generous one, place your own for our gain.
The shining rains have spread forth; grant us well-being, protect us from these perils; Indra, you are the charioteer—guard us from harm, quickly, quickly make us victorious in cattle.
The slayer of Vṛtra, the protector of cattle, has approached; within the dark ones, he went with the red lights; sending forth true words, by truth, he opened all the difficult places, and the good ones.
Let us call upon generous Indra in this contest, the best of men in the prize-winning; the mighty one who hears, for help in battles, who slays the Vṛtras, the conqueror of riches.
Indra, drink this Soma, O lord of Soma, at this midday pressing, which is delightful to you; O generous, mighty one, with loosened hair, rejoice here, releasing your steeds.
Drink the bright, churned Soma, Indra, with the cow's head, which we have prepared for your exhilaration; with the company of those who perform the sacred utterance, with the Maruts, together with the Rudras, be strong in threefold measure.
Those who increased your power, your might, O Indra, the Maruts who magnified your strength; at the midday pressing, O thunderer, drink with the Rudras, with your troop, O beautiful-haired one.
They, indeed, are the honeyed, wise hosts of Indra, the Maruts who were present; with whom, at your urging, he discovered the joints of Vṛtra, the arrogant one, at his vital spot.
Like a man, Indra, delighting in the pressing, drink the Soma for ever-renewed strength; come here, O swift-horsed one, with sacrifices, with helpers, you drive away the flowing waters.
You, indeed, when you slew Vṛtra, released the waters as racing steeds in the contest; Indra, with your weapon, you struck the moving and the resting, you drove away the godless from the gods.
We worship with reverence the mighty Indra, the great, lofty, ageless, youthful one; whose beloved, worthy of sacrifice, the greatness of whom neither heaven nor earth can contain.
The deeds of Indra, well-performed and manifold, the gods—all of them—do not transgress his commands; he who, with wise intent, upheld the earth and the heavens, who created the sun and the dawn.
Your greatness, O Indra, is without falsehood and true; for, newly born, you at once drank the Soma. Neither the heavens nor your strength's power, nor days, nor months, nor years can reach its limit.
You, Indra, newly born, drank the Soma for exhilaration in the highest heaven; when you entered the realms of heaven and earth, then you became the ancient one for the work of the seer.
You struck down the serpent lying around the waters, O mighty-born, growing in strength; not even the sky could match your greatness, when, with another's support, you held the earth firm.
For you, Indra, the sacrifice has become an increaser, and the pressed Soma, dear to you, brings delight; by sacrifice, O worthy of sacrifice, support the sacrifice—by sacrifice you brought the thunderbolt for slaying the serpent.
By sacrifice, with help, men have brought Indra near; may we turn him to our new favor; he who has grown with ancient hymns, with those of the middle time, and also with the new ones.
