मा नो अग्नेऽमतये मावीरतायै रीरधः । मागोतायै सहसस्पुत्र मा निदेऽप द्वेषांस्या कृधि
O Agni, do not bring us to folly, to lack of manliness, or to poverty, O son of strength. Do not make us subject to hatred or enmity.
शग्धि वाजस्य सुभग प्रजावतोऽग्ने बृहतो अध्वरे । सं राया भूयसा सृज मयोभुना तुविद्युम्न यशस्वता
Grant us, O fortunate Agni, wealth abounding in offspring at the great sacrifice. Release to us abundant riches, joy-bringing, of great fame and glory.
समिध्यमानः प्रथमानु धर्मा समक्तुभिरज्यते विश्ववारः । शोचिष्केशो घृतनिर्णिक्पावकः सुयज्ञो अग्निर्यजथाय देवान्
Ignited, you follow the first laws; you are praised by the worshippers, O all-possessing one. With flaming hair, clarified butter as your purifier, you, Agni, pure and skilled in sacrifice, bring the gods to the ritual.
यथायजो होत्रमग्ने पृथिव्या यथा दिवो जातवेदश्चिकित्वान् । एवानेन हविषा यक्षि देवान्मनुष्वद्यज्ञं प्र तिरेममद्य
As you, Agni, have performed the priestly office on earth, as you, Jātavedas, have done in heaven with wisdom, so with this offering may you worship the gods; today, as men, let us cross beyond with the sacrifice.
त्रीण्यायूंषि तव जातवेदस्तिस्र आजानीरुषसस्ते अग्ने । ताभिर्देवानामवो यक्षि विद्वानथा भव यजमानाय शं योः
Three are your lives, O Jātavedas; three dawns have been born for you, O Agni. By these, wise one, bring the help of the gods, and then be a source of blessing for the worshipper.
अग्निं सुदीतिं सुदृशं गृणन्तो नमस्यामस्त्वेड्यं जातवेदः । त्वां दूतमरतिं हव्यवाहं देवा अकृण्वन्नमृतस्य नाभिम्
We praise Agni, radiant and beautiful, worthy of homage, O Jātavedas. You, messenger, bringer of offerings, the gods made the center of immortality.
यस्त्वद्धोता पूर्वो अग्ने यजीयान्द्विता च सत्ता स्वधया च शम्भुः । तस्यानु धर्म प्र यजा चिकित्वोऽथ नो धा अध्वरं देववीतौ
Whoever before you, Agni, was the best priest, and who, by his own power, was gracious—following his law, O wise one, perform the sacrifice; then, for us, direct the ritual with divine favor.
भवा नो अग्ने सुमना उपेतौ सखेव सख्ये पितरेव साधुः । पुरुद्रुहो हि क्षितयो जनानां प्रति प्रतीचीर्दहतादरातीः
Be gracious to us, Agni, as you approach, like a friend to a friend, like a good son to his father. For the peoples are full of many hostilities; burn away our foes, facing them on every side.
तपो ष्वग्ने अन्तराँ अमित्रान्तपा शंसमररुषः परस्य । तपो वसो चिकितानो अचित्तान्वि ते तिष्ठन्तामजरा अयासः
Burn, O Agni, among the enemies; burn the hostile curse and the wrath of the stranger. Burn, O wise one, those without understanding; may your undying, tireless flames stand against them.
इध्मेनाग्न इच्छमानो घृतेन जुहोमि हव्यं तरसे बलाय । यावदीशे ब्रह्मणा वन्दमान इमां धियं शतसेयाय देवीम्
With kindling wood, O Agni, and with clarified butter, I offer the oblation for strength and power. As long as I am able with prayer, honoring, may I praise this divine thought for a hundred years.
उच्छोचिषा सहसस्पुत्र स्तुतो बृहद्वयः शशमानेषु धेहि । रेवदग्ने विश्वामित्रेषु शं योर्मर्मृज्मा ते तन्वं भूरि कृत्वः
Shine forth with your flame, O son of strength, praised; place great glory among those who rejoice. O Agni, bring blessing to the Viśvāmitras; purify your body, making it abundant.
कृधि रत्नं सुसनितर्धनानां स घेदग्ने भवसि यत्समिद्धः । स्तोतुर्दुरोणे सुभगस्य रेवत्सृप्रा करस्ना दधिषे वपूंषि
Grant us treasure, O bestower of wealth; for when you are kindled, Agni, you become that. In the house of the praiser, O fortunate and splendid one, you have assumed all beautiful forms.
अग्निं होतारं प्र वृणे मियेधे गृत्सं कविं विश्वविदममूरम् । स नो यक्षद्देवताता यजीयान्राये वाजाय वनते मघानि
I choose Agni as the priest for the sacrifice, wise, a sage, all-knowing, unfailing. May he worship for us, most worthy of sacrifice, and bring us wealth, strength, and generous gifts.
प्र ते अग्ने हविष्मतीमियर्म्यच्छा सुद्युम्नां रातिनीं घृताचीम् । प्रदक्षिणिद्देवतातिमुराणः सं रातिभिर्वसुभिर्यज्ञमश्रेत्
To you, Agni, I send forth the offering rich in ghee, seeking splendid gifts, radiant with clarity. Circling to the right, most youthful, may he approach with gifts, and with the wealthy ones, may he seat the sacrifice.
स तेजीयसा मनसा त्वोत उत शिक्ष स्वपत्यस्य शिक्षोः । अग्ने रायो नृतमस्य प्रभूतौ भूयाम ते सुष्टुतयश्च वस्वः
With your keen mind, grant us also the mastery of prosperity, grant us mastery. O Agni, in the abundance of heroic wealth, may we become most praised among the wealthy.
भूरीणि हि त्वे दधिरे अनीकाग्ने देवस्य यज्यवो जनासः । स आ वह देवतातिं यविष्ठ शर्धो यदद्य दिव्यं यजासि
For many are your faces, O Agni, which the worshipping people have placed in you, O god. Bring here the favor of the gods, youngest one, when today you sacrifice to the divine host.
यत्त्वा होतारमनजन्मियेधे निषादयन्तो यजथाय देवाः । स त्वं नो अग्नेऽवितेह बोध्यधि श्रवांसि धेहि नस्तनूषु
When the gods, desiring sacrifice, appointed you as the priest at the beginning, may you, Agni, be our protector here; grant us fame among our people.
अग्निमुषसमश्विना दधिक्रां व्युष्टिषु हवते वह्निरुक्थैः । सुज्योतिषो नः शृण्वन्तु देवाः सजोषसो अध्वरं वावशानाः
Agni calls at dawn to Uṣas, the Aśvins, and Dadhikrā, with hymns at the break of day. May the gods, radiant, hear us, united, eager for the sacrifice.
अग्ने त्री ते वाजिना त्री षधस्था तिस्रस्ते जिह्वा ऋतजात पूर्वीः । तिस्र उ ते तन्वो देववातास्ताभिर्नः पाहि गिरो अप्रयुच्छन्
Agni, three are your swift steeds, three your seats, three your tongues born of truth, ancient ones. Three are your forms, divine by nature; with these, protect us, so that our songs are not rejected.
अग्ने भूरीणि तव जातवेदो देव स्वधावोऽमृतस्य नाम । याश्च माया मायिनां विश्वमिन्व त्वे पूर्वीः संदधुः पृष्टबन्धो
Agni, Jātavedas, many are your powers, O god, self-sustaining, bearing the name of immortality. And the wonders which the wonder-workers, all, have placed in you from of old, are bound together at your back.
अग्निर्नेता भग इव क्षितीनां दैवीनां देव ऋतुपा ऋतावा । स वृत्रहा सनयो विश्ववेदाः पर्षद्विश्वाति दुरिता गृणन्तम्
Agni is the leader, like Bhaga, of peoples; divine, god, guardian of order, true to law. He, the slayer of Vritra, wise, all-knowing, may he lead the singer safely through all hardships.
दधिक्रामग्निमुषसं च देवीं बृहस्पतिं सवितारं च देवम् । अश्विना मित्रावरुणा भगं च वसून्रुद्राँ आदित्याँ इह हुवे
I call Dadhikrā, Agni, the divine Dawn, Bṛhaspati, Savitar the god, the Aśvins, Mitra, Varuṇa, Bhaga, the Vasus, Rudras, and Ādityas here.
इमं नो यज्ञममृतेषु धेहीमा हव्या जातवेदो जुषस्व । स्तोकानामग्ने मेदसो घृतस्य होतः प्राशान प्रथमो निषद्य
Place this sacrifice among the immortals for us; accept our offerings, Jātavedas. Agni, first seated as the priest, taste the portions of curds and clarified butter.
घृतवन्तः पावक ते स्तोका श्चोतन्ति मेदसः । स्वधर्मन्देववीतये श्रेष्ठं नो धेहि वार्यम्
Clarified butter flows for you, O pure one; the portions drip with fat. In your own place, for the divine feast, grant us the best reward.
तुभ्यं स्तोका घृतश्चुतोऽग्ने विप्राय सन्त्य । ऋषिः श्रेष्ठः समिध्यसे यज्ञस्य प्राविता भव
For you, Agni, the portions drip with clarified butter; they are for the wise. You are the best sage, you blaze up; be the protector of the sacrifice.
तुभ्यं श्चोतन्त्यध्रिगो शचीव स्तोकासो अग्ने मेदसो घृतस्य । कविशस्तो बृहता भानुनागा हव्या जुषस्व मेधिर
For you, Agni, the portions drip, unbroken, like strength; the portions of fat and clarified butter. Wise, with great radiance, accept the offerings, O thoughtful one.
ओजिष्ठं ते मध्यतो मेद उद्भृतं प्र ते वयं ददामहे । श्चोतन्ति ते वसो स्तोका अधि त्वचि प्रति तान्देवशो विहि
The strongest fat, raised from the midst, we offer to you. The portions drip, O gracious one, upon your skin; distribute them among the gods.
अयं सो अग्निर्यस्मिन्सोममिन्द्रः सुतं दधे जठरे वावशानः । सहस्रिणं वाजमत्यं न सप्तिं ससवान्सन्स्तूयसे जातवेदः
This is that Agni, in whom Indra placed the pressed Soma in his belly, eager. He is praised as Jātavedas, possessing a thousand powers, like a swift horse, victorious.
अग्ने यत्ते दिवि वर्चः पृथिव्यां यदोषधीष्वप्स्वा यजत्र । येनान्तरिक्षमुर्वाततन्थ त्वेषः स भानुरर्णवो नृचक्षाः
Agni, your brilliance is in the sky, on earth, in plants, and in waters, O worthy of worship. With it, you stretch across the vast atmosphere; your radiance is fierce, your light is seen by men.
अग्ने दिवो अर्णमच्छा जिगास्यच्छा देवाँ ऊचिषे धिष्ण्या ये । या रोचने परस्तात्सूर्यस्य याश्चावस्तादुपतिष्ठन्त आपः
Agni, you seek the flood of heaven; you approach the gods, the lords of the altar. Those who shine beyond the sun's realm, and those waters that stand below, you reach.
