कायमानो वना त्वं यन्मातॄरजगन्नपः । न तत्ते अग्ने प्रमृषे निवर्तनं यद्दूरे सन्निहाभवः
When you, O Agni, move among the woods, among your mothers, among the waters, there is no turning back for you, whether you are far or near.
अति तृष्टं ववक्षिथाथैव सुमना असि । प्रप्रान्ये यन्ति पर्यन्य आसते येषां सख्ये असि श्रितः
You have surpassed the thirsty, and thus you are gracious; some go forth, others sit around—those in whose friendship you have taken refuge.
ईयिवांसमति स्रिधः शश्वतीरति सश्चतः । अन्वीमविन्दन्निचिरासो अद्रुहोऽप्सु सिंहमिव श्रितम्
He who moves swiftly, never failing, always accompanying—those who are long-enduring, not harmful, found him, as if a lion dwelling in the waters.
ससृवांसमिव त्मनाग्निमित्था तिरोहितम् । ऐनं नयन्मातरिश्वा परावतो देवेभ्यो मथितं परि
As one who has sent himself forth, Agni, thus hidden, Mātariśvan brought him here from afar, churned out from the gods.
तं त्वा मर्ता अगृभ्णत देवेभ्यो हव्यवाहन । विश्वान्यद्यज्ञाँ अभिपासि मानुष तव क्रत्वा यविष्ठ्य
Mortals have taken hold of you, O Agni, as the carrier of offerings for the gods; you oversee all sacrifices for men by your will, youngest one.
तद्भद्रं तव दंसना पाकाय चिच्छदयति । त्वां यदग्ने पशवः समासते समिद्धमपिशर्वरे
That good fortune, your tongue, even for ripening, covers; when, O Agni, the cattle gather around you, kindled, even in the darkness.
आ जुहोता स्वध्वरं शीरं पावकशोचिषम् । आशुं दूतमजिरं प्रत्नमीड्यं श्रुष्टी देवं सपर्यत
Offer up the pure, well-ordered, brilliant flame, swift messenger, tireless, ancient, worthy of praise; honor the divine one who hears.
त्रीणि शता त्री सहस्राण्यग्निं त्रिंशच्च देवा नव चासपर्यन् । औक्षन्घृतैरस्तृणन्बर्हिरस्मा आदिद्धोतारं न्यसादयन्त
Three hundred, three thousand, and thirty-nine gods have honored Agni; they anointed him with ghee, spread the sacred grass for him, and seated him as the officiant.
त्वामग्ने मनीषिणः सम्राजं चर्षणीनाम् । देवं मर्तास इन्धते समध्वरे
You, Agni, are established by the wise as the sovereign of peoples; mortals invoke you, the god, at the sacrifice.
त्वां यज्ञेष्वृत्विजमग्ने होतारमीळते । गोपा ऋतस्य दीदिहि स्वे दमे
In the rituals, they call you, Agni, as the officiant and priest; shine forth as the guardian of truth in your own house.
स घा यस्ते ददाशति समिधा जातवेदसे । सो अग्ने धत्ते सुवीर्यं स पुष्यति
He who serves you, Jātavedas, with kindling, O Agni, gains heroic strength and prospers.
स केतुरध्वराणामग्निर्देवेभिरा गमत् । अञ्जानः सप्त होतृभिर्हविष्मते
As the sign of sacrifices, Agni comes with the gods, adorned, together with seven priests, to the one offering oblations.
प्र होत्रे पूर्व्यं वचोऽग्नये भरता बृहत् । विपां ज्योतींषि बिभ्रते न वेधसे
Bring forth the ancient, lofty speech to Agni as the priest, who bears the radiant lights for the wise.
अग्निं वर्धन्तु नो गिरो यतो जायत उक्थ्यः । महे वाजाय द्रविणाय दर्शतः
May our hymns strengthen Agni, from whom the praise is born; for great prize, wealth, and vision.
अग्ने यजिष्ठो अध्वरे देवान्देवयते यज । होता मन्द्रो वि राजस्यति स्रिधः
Agni, most fit for sacrifice, worship the gods for the worshiper; as the delightful priest, you shine forth, dispelling obstacles.
स नः पावक दीदिहि द्युमदस्मे सुवीर्यम् । भवा स्तोतृभ्यो अन्तमः स्वस्तये
O pure one, shine for us; grant us radiant heroism; be the closest to the singers for well-being.
तं त्वा विप्रा विपन्यवो जागृवांसः समिन्धते । हव्यवाहममर्त्यं सहोवृधम्
You, whom the inspired, vigilant priests kindle, immortal, strong, carrier of offerings.
अग्निर्होता पुरोहितोऽध्वरस्य विचर्षणिः । स वेद यज्ञमानुषक्
Agni is the priest, the householder, the wise one of the sacrifice; he knows the ritual for mankind.
स हव्यवाळमर्त्य उशिग्दूतश्चनोहितः । अग्निर्धिया समृण्वति
He, immortal, carrier of offerings, swift messenger, is established; Agni fulfills with thought.
अग्निर्धिया स चेतति केतुर्यज्ञस्य पूर्व्यः । अर्थं ह्यस्य तरणि
Agni, with thought, perceives; he is the sign, ancient of the sacrifice; for he knows its purpose.
अग्निं सूनुं सनश्रुतं सहसो जातवेदसम् । वह्निं देवा अकृण्वत
Agni, the son, renowned, knower of all births, the gods made him the fire.
अदाभ्यः पुरएता विशामग्निर्मानुषीणाम् । तूर्णी रथः सदा नवः
Agni, unassailable, leader of the peoples, priest of men, is always swift, ever new like a chariot.
साह्वान्विश्वा अभियुजः क्रतुर्देवानाममृक्तः । अग्निस्तुविश्रवस्तमः
He, the summoner of all, the power of the gods, unwearied, Agni, is most widely famed.
अभि प्रयांसि वाहसा दाश्वाँ अश्नोति मर्त्यः । क्षयं पावकशोचिषः
With his vehicle, the worshiper attains the paths, the abode of the pure flame.
परि विश्वानि सुधिताग्नेरश्याम मन्मभिः । विप्रासो जातवेदसः
Let us approach all the well-established gifts of Agni with our thoughts, O wise ones, O knower of all births.
अग्ने विश्वानि वार्या वाजेषु सनिषामहे । त्वे देवास एरिरे
Agni, we seek all desirable things in contests; in you, the gods have placed their trust.
इन्द्राग्नी आ गतं सुतं गीर्भिर्नभो वरेण्यम् । अस्य पातं धियेषिता
Indra and Agni, come to the pressed Soma with songs, O lofty ones; drink it, guided by our devotion.
इन्द्राग्नी जरितुः सचा यज्ञो जिगाति चेतनः । अया पातमिमं सुतम्
Indra and Agni, together with the singer, the conscious sacrifice advances; drink this Soma here.
इन्द्रमग्निं कविच्छदा यज्ञस्य जूत्या वृणे । ता सोमस्येह तृम्पताम्
I choose Indra and Agni, adorned with wisdom, by the favor of the sacrifice; let them delight in the Soma here.
तोशा वृत्रहणा हुवे सजित्वानापराजिता । इन्द्राग्नी वाजसातमा
I call Indra and Agni, the slayers of Vritra, victorious and unconquered, bestowers of strength.
