The great, nourishing, straight-moving offspring of Tvaṣṭṛ, being supported, carry the one who is to be carried. Shining with their forms, they have entered the seat as if the two worlds were one.
They know the blessing of the strong, ruddy one; they roar at the command of the spotted one. The lights of heaven, shining brightly, whose songs are to be counted among the great, are Iḷā’s.
Also, with the two fathers, they have brought forth a mighty sound from the great ones. Where the bull circles the enclosure of the milker, there the singer has declared his own abode.
With five priests, the seven sages guard the beloved, established track of the bull. The forward-yoked, unwearied ones rejoice; the gods indeed follow the vows of the gods.
The divine priests, the first, have sat down; the seven pure ones rejoice in their own nature. Proclaiming truth, they call the friend of truth; the keepers of vows, shining, follow the vow.
The strong ones are yoked for the great journey, the bright, well-yoked rays for the strong one. O divine priest, most delightful, wise, bring here the great gods, the two worlds.
Those who are yoked to the pure, eloquent, and well-guided, have called forth the radiant dawns. Even if, O Agni, by the greatness of earth, some offense has been committed, forgive it for our great good.
Grant us, O Agni, abundant, lasting wealth of cattle, the best sustenance for the one who invokes you. May our son and his offspring be victorious; may your good favor be with us.
They anoint you, O Lord of the Forest, at the sacrifice, O divine one, with celestial honey, when you stand upright—may you grant wealth here, whether you remain above or rest in the lap of your mother.
Taking shelter before the kindled one, composing hymns, striving for the undying, noble one—drive far from us the hostile thought, rise up for great good fortune.
Rise up, O Lord of the Forest, upon the surface of the earth; measuring out good counsel, establish your radiance for carrying the sacrifice.
Young, well-clad, wrapped around, he comes—he is better as he is born; the wise, the poets, raise him up, self-ruled, worshipping with their minds.
Born, he is born again in the brightness of days, growing strong in the assembly; the wise purify the offerings with thought, and the inspired priest raises the hymn with devotion.
Whatever men, worshippers, have fashioned for you, O Lord of the Forest, or whatever the carver has shaped—may those gods, standing with their own sound, grant us the treasure with offspring.
Those who are cut, set upon the earth, those who are fashioned, those with straight edges—may they grant us abundant gifts, divine, bringing success in the field.
The Ādityas, Rudras, Vasus, guides of the good path, Heaven and Earth, the broad earth and midspace—may the gods together protect the sacrifice, may they raise high the sign of the ritual.
Like swans in a line, harnessed, shining, clothed in white, the singers have come; raised up by poets at the front, the gods go on the path of the gods.
Like the horns of horned ones, the singers with their drinking vessels are seen upon the earth; whether with words or in the call, hearing, may they protect us in the contests for victory.
O Lord of the Forest, hundred-branched, grow forth; thousand-branched, may we grow forth; you whom the carver, sharpening, has brought forth for great good fortune.
As friends we have chosen you, O god, O mortal, for help—the offspring of the waters, fortunate, shining, of good guidance, of excellent praise, sinless.
When you, O Agni, move among the woods, among your mothers, among the waters, there is no turning back for you, whether you are far or near.
You have surpassed the thirsty, and thus you are gracious; some go forth, others sit around—those in whose friendship you have taken refuge.
He who moves swiftly, never failing, always accompanying—those who are long-enduring, not harmful, found him, as if a lion dwelling in the waters.
As one who has sent himself forth, Agni, thus hidden, Mātariśvan brought him here from afar, churned out from the gods.
Mortals have taken hold of you, O Agni, as the carrier of offerings for the gods; you oversee all sacrifices for men by your will, youngest one.
That good fortune, your tongue, even for ripening, covers; when, O Agni, the cattle gather around you, kindled, even in the darkness.
Offer up the pure, well-ordered, brilliant flame, swift messenger, tireless, ancient, worthy of praise; honor the divine one who hears.
Three hundred, three thousand, and thirty-nine gods have honored Agni; they anointed him with ghee, spread the sacred grass for him, and seated him as the officiant.
You, Agni, are established by the wise as the sovereign of peoples; mortals invoke you, the god, at the sacrifice.
In the rituals, they call you, Agni, as the officiant and priest; shine forth as the guardian of truth in your own house.
