उपक्षेतारस्तव सुप्रणीतेऽग्ने विश्वानि धन्या दधानाः । सुरेतसा श्रवसा तुञ्जमाना अभि ष्याम पृतनायूँरदेवान्
Those who dwell near, under your good guidance, Agni, bear all blessings; with noble seed and fame, striving, let us approach the gods who are leaders in battle.
आ देवानामभवः केतुरग्ने मन्द्रो विश्वानि काव्यानि विद्वान् । प्रति मर्ताँ अवासयो दमूना अनु देवान्रथिरो यासि साधन्
You became the sign of the gods, Agni, delightful, knowing all wisdom; you awaken mortals, wondrous one, and you go with the gods as a charioteer, accomplishing.
नि दुरोणे अमृतो मर्त्यानां राजा ससाद विदथानि साधन् । घृतप्रतीक उर्विया व्यद्यौदग्निर्विश्वानि काव्यानि विद्वान्
In the home of mortals, the immortal king sat, accomplishing the assemblies; with ghee-adorned face, wide-shining, Agni, knowing all wisdom, shone forth.
आ नो गहि सख्येभिः शिवेभिर्महान्महीभिरूतिभिः सरण्यन् । अस्मे रयिं बहुलं संतरुत्रं सुवाचं भागं यशसं कृधी नः
Come to us with friendly, auspicious ones, great and mighty helpers, O guide; grant us abundant, crossing wealth, well-spoken share, and glory.
एता ते अग्ने जनिमा सनानि प्र पूर्व्याय नूतनानि वोचम् । महान्ति वृष्णे सवना कृतेमा जन्मञ्जन्मन्निहितो जातवेदाः
These, O Agni, are your ancient births; I now speak the new ones for the earliest; these great, mighty rites are made for you, Jātavedas, established at every birth.
जन्मञ्जन्मन्निहितो जातवेदा विश्वामित्रेभिरिध्यते अजस्रः । तस्य वयं सुमतौ यज्ञियस्यापि भद्रे सौमनसे स्याम
Established at every birth, Jātavedas, he is ceaselessly kindled by the Viśvāmitras; in his favor, of the worshipful, may we be in good mind and happiness.
इमं यज्ञं सहसावन्त्वं नो देवत्रा धेहि सुक्रतो रराणः । प्र यंसि होतर्बृहतीरिषो नोऽग्ने महि द्रविणमा यजस्व
Place this sacrifice of ours, O mighty one, among the gods, O skillful Agni, rejoicing; direct the offerings, O Hotar, with lofty praises for us; Agni, obtain great wealth for us by worship.
इळामग्ने पुरुदंसं सनिं गोः शश्वत्तमं हवमानाय साध । स्यान्नः सूनुस्तनयो विजावाग्ने सा ते सुमतिर्भूत्वस्मे
O Agni, grant us abundant, enduring prosperity, the best reward for the one who offers; may our son be victorious and wise, O Agni, and may your favor be with us.
वैश्वानराय धिषणामृतावृधे घृतं न पूतमग्नये जनामसि । द्विता होतारं मनुषश्च वाघतो धिया रथं न कुलिशः समृण्वति
For Vaiśvānara, the nourisher of wisdom, we prepare clarified butter, pure as ghee, for Agni; as men, we appoint him as Hotar, with praise, like a chariot fitted by skillful hands.
स रोचयज्जनुषा रोदसी उभे स मात्रोरभवत्पुत्र ईड्यः । हव्यवाळग्निरजरश्चनोहितो दूळभो विशामतिथिर्विभावसुः
He illuminated both heaven and earth by his birth; he became the praiseworthy son of his mothers; Agni, the immortal, the chosen one, the guest of the people, the shining one, receives the offerings.
क्रत्वा दक्षस्य तरुषो विधर्मणि देवासो अग्निं जनयन्त चित्तिभिः । रुरुचानं भानुना ज्योतिषा महामत्यं न वाजं सनिष्यन्नुप ब्रुवे
By their will, the gods, strong in wisdom and skill, created Agni with their thoughts; shining with light and brilliance, I praise him, the great, as one who brings wealth, like a champion.
आ मन्द्रस्य सनिष्यन्तो वरेण्यं वृणीमहे अह्रयं वाजमृग्मियम् । रातिं भृगूणामुशिजं कविक्रतुमग्निं राजन्तं दिव्येन शोचिषा
Seeking the favor of the delightful, we choose the excellent, the unyielding prize, the heroic wealth; the gift of the Bhṛgus, born of Usij, wise in action, Agni, the king, shining with celestial radiance.
अग्निं सुम्नाय दधिरे पुरो जना वाजश्रवसमिह वृक्तबर्हिषः । यतस्रुचः सुरुचं विश्वदेव्यं रुद्रं यज्ञानां साधदिष्टिमपसाम्
The people have placed Agni for favor, the one renowned for wealth, here on the well-laid altar; with shining offerings, he is the radiant, universal, Rudra, the guide of sacrifices, the purifier of waters.
पावकशोचे तव हि क्षयं परि होतर्यज्ञेषु वृक्तबर्हिषो नरः । अग्ने दुव इच्छमानास आप्यमुपासते द्रविणं धेहि तेभ्यः
O pure-shining one, your dwelling is surrounded by the men who serve as Hotar at sacrifices, with well-laid altars; Agni, those seeking your favor approach you for prosperity; grant them wealth.
आ रोदसी अपृणदा स्वर्महज्जातं यदेनमपसो अधारयन् । सो अध्वराय परि णीयते कविरत्यो न वाजसातये चनोहितः
He filled both heaven and earth with his great light, when the waters bore him; he is led around the sacrifice, the wise, the swift, like a champion striving for wealth, the chosen one.
नमस्यत हव्यदातिं स्वध्वरं दुवस्यत दम्यं जातवेदसम् । रथीरृतस्य बृहतो विचर्षणिरग्निर्देवानामभवत्पुरोहितः
Honor the giver of offerings, the true sacrificer; praise the noble, the knower of all births; Agni, the charioteer of great truth, the wise among people, became the priest of the gods.
तिस्रो यह्वस्य समिधः परिज्मनोऽग्नेरपुनन्नुशिजो अमृत्यवः । तासामेकामदधुर्मर्त्ये भुजमु लोकमु द्वे उप जामिमीयतुः
Three immortal kindlings of Agni, prepared by the Usij, purified him; of these, one was placed as the support for mortals, and two approached their home, their domain.
विशां कविं विश्पतिं मानुषीरिषः सं सीमकृण्वन्स्वधितिं न तेजसे । स उद्वतो निवतो याति वेविषत्स गर्भमेषु भुवनेषु दीधरत्
The sage of the people, the lord of the clans, the human prosperity, they make him their support, like a sharp tool for brightness; he moves both upward and downward, shining, bearing the seed in all worlds.
स जिन्वते जठरेषु प्रजज्ञिवान्वृषा चित्रेषु नानदन्न सिंहः । वैश्वानरः पृथुपाजा अमर्त्यो वसु रत्ना दयमानो वि दाशुषे
He grows strong in wombs, being born again and again, roaring like a bull in splendid places, like a lion; Vaiśvānara, broad-footed, immortal, grants precious gifts, distributing them to the worshipper.
वैश्वानरः प्रत्नथा नाकमारुहद्दिवस्पृष्ठं भन्दमानः सुमन्मभिः । स पूर्ववज्जनयञ्जन्तवे धनं समानमज्मं पर्येति जागृविः
Vaiśvānara, ancient, ascended to the abode, touching the sky, delighting with good thoughts; like before, he generates wealth for the worshipper, moving together, ever watchful.
ऋतावानं यज्ञियं विप्रमुक्थ्यमा यं दधे मातरिश्वा दिवि क्षयम् । तं चित्रयामं हरिकेशमीमहे सुदीतिमग्निं सुविताय नव्यसे
The righteous, the worthy of sacrifice, the wise, whom Mātariśvan established in heaven as a dwelling; him, shining, with golden hair, we seek, Agni, for good guidance and new prosperity.
शुचिं न यामन्निषिरं स्वर्दृशं केतुं दिवो रोचनस्थामुषर्बुधम् । अग्निं मूर्धानं दिवो अप्रतिष्कुतं तमीमहे नमसा वाजिनं बृहत्
Pure as a stream, swift, shining, a beacon in the realm of heaven, the awakener; Agni, the crown of heaven, unopposed, him we seek with reverence, the mighty, the victorious.
मन्द्रं होतारं शुचिमद्वयाविनं दमूनसमुक्थ्यं विश्वचर्षणिम् । रथं न चित्रं वपुषाय दर्शतं मनुर्हितं सदमिद्राय ईमहे
The delightful Hotar, pure, without rival, noble, worthy of praise, wise among all peoples; like a splendid chariot for beauty, established by Manu, we seek him for a lasting abode.
वैश्वानराय पृथुपाजसे विपो रत्ना विधन्त धरुणेषु गातवे । अग्निर्हि देवाँ अमृतो दुवस्यत्यथा धर्माणि सनता न दूदुषत्
For Vaiśvānara, broad-footed, the singers distribute treasures in the abodes for the journey; Agni, the immortal, pleases the gods, thus the laws endure, never failing.
अन्तर्दूतो रोदसी दस्म ईयते होता निषत्तो मनुषः पुरोहितः । क्षयं बृहन्तं परि भूषति द्युभिर्देवेभिरग्निरिषितो धियावसुः
The messenger moves between heaven and earth, wondrously; the priest is seated, the people's chief officiant. He surrounds the vast abode with radiance, adorned by the gods, Agni, prompted by wise thought, brings wealth.
केतुं यज्ञानां विदथस्य साधनं विप्रासो अग्निं महयन्त चित्तिभिः । अपांसि यस्मिन्नधि संदधुर्गिरस्तस्मिन्सुम्नानि यजमान आ चके
The sages honor Agni with their minds, as the sign of sacrifices, the accomplisher of the assembly. In him, the hymns are set, in him the offerings are placed; upon him, the worshipper lays his prayers.
पिता यज्ञानामसुरो विपश्चितां विमानमग्निर्वयुनं च वाघताम् । आ विवेश रोदसी भूरिवर्पसा पुरुप्रियो भन्दते धामभिः कविः
Agni, father of sacrifices, lord of insight, the wise, the measure and skill of the worshippers, has entered heaven and earth with great splendor; beloved by many, the poet delights in his abodes.
चन्द्रमग्निं चन्द्ररथं हरिव्रतं वैश्वानरमप्सुषदं स्वर्विदम् । विगाहं तूर्णिं तविषीभिरावृतं भूर्णिं देवास इह सुश्रियं दधुः
The shining Agni, with a radiant chariot, whose vow is golden, Vaiśvānara, dwelling in the waters, knowing the light; the gods have placed here the swift, powerful, enveloped, resplendent one, possessing beautiful glory.
अग्निर्देवेभिर्मनुषश्च जन्तुभिस्तन्वानो यज्ञं पुरुपेशसं धिया । रथीरन्तरीयते साधदिष्टिभिर्जीरो दमूना अभिशस्तिचातनः
Agni, with the gods and with men, kindles the sacrifice, adorned in many ways by thought; he moves as a charioteer, guided by good intentions, ever young, protector of the household, warding off curses.
अग्ने जरस्व स्वपत्य आयुन्यूर्जा पिन्वस्व समिषो दिदीहि नः । वयांसि जिन्व बृहतश्च जागृव उशिग्देवानामसि सुक्रतुर्विपाम्
Agni, grow strong in your own power and life; nourish us with vigor, shine forth together with us. Animate our energies, awaken the great ones; you are the wise, the good-minded among the gods, O seer.
