Your wondrous powers, O worshipful Ādityas, the snares you have set for the enemy, let them be cut apart; as a horse escapes with its chariot, may we be unharmed and find wide shelter.
May I not, O generous Varuṇa, beloved and bountiful, encounter ruin or misfortune; may I not lose wealth, O king, through ill conduct; let us speak greatly in the assembly, strong and noble.
This is the radiance of the wise Āditya, sovereign of the sun; by his greatness, he brings all things to rest. He, gentle and divine, is worshipped, and I seek the abundant fame of Varuṇa.
May we be blessed under your rule, Varuṇa, delighting in your praise; like the fires that follow the rich dawns, may we approach day by day, never growing old.
May we be in the protection of you, Varuṇa, leader of many heroes, of wide renown; you, sons of Aditi, flawless, may you grant us favor, O worthy gods.
The Āditya, creator, has sent them forth; the rivers flow according to Varuṇa's order. They neither tire nor are released; like birds, they swiftly circle in their course.
For my chariot, loosen the strap as one would, Varuṇa, to reach the realm of immortality; let not the thread of my life be cut, nor my wisdom, nor the measure of my righteous deeds.
O Varuṇa, let the waters be gentle for me; remove fear, O king, uphold me in righteousness. Release me from sin as a calf from its tether; for none but you can restrain or release.
Let not those who are hostile, Varuṇa, who seek to harm us, bring us to ruin; let us not stray from the paths of light, nor encounter conflict, but live long.
We offer you homage, Varuṇa, as before and now, and also in the future, O mighty-born; for in you, as in a mountain, are steadfast, unshaken, difficult-to-break vows.
Remove the debts of sin I have incurred, O king; let me not suffer for another's wrongdoing. May the dawns, bright and many, shine forth; grant us life, Varuṇa, in them.
If a king, a companion, or anyone in a dream has spoken fearful words to me, or if a thief or a wolf seeks to harm us, protect us from them, Varuṇa.
May I not, O generous Varuṇa, beloved and bountiful, encounter ruin or misfortune; may I not lose wealth, O king, through ill conduct; let us speak greatly in the assembly, strong and noble.
The Ādityas, steadfast in their vows, powerful, distant from my wrongdoing, knowing secrets, listen to you, Varuṇa, Mitra, O gods; knowing what is auspicious, I call upon you for help.
You, O gods, are the generous givers; you are strength; you drive away hatred and protect us. You who approach, come near and support us; grant us mercy today and hereafter.
What more can we do for you, O Wealthy Ones, with this or with that ancient offering? You, Mitra, Varuṇa, Aditi, Indra, Maruts—grant us well-being.
Indeed, O gods, you are present here; show mercy to me who am not at fault. May your chariot not pass me by in the middle; may we not grow weary while resting in you.
One alone has measured out the many gifts, as a father instructs his foolish son. Keep far away the snares, far away the evils, O gods; do not let misfortune seize me or my child.
Come near today, O worshipful gods; with confidence in your hearts, may I be fearless. Protect us, O gods, from the howling wolf; protect us, O worshipful ones, from the one who brings us down.
May I, O generous Varuṇa, not fall into the emptiness of one who has lost your favor, you who give abundantly. O king, may we not lose wealth through our own fault; may we speak mightily in the assembly, victorious with heroes.
The waters delight in making truth for the god Savitar and for Indra, as wives rejoice for a husband. Day by day, they hasten, eager to act; their first creation was the flowing forth.
She who bore him, knowing, spoke to him who would hurl the stream against Vṛtra: 'The paths are ready for him, gladly, day by day; the streams rush forth for his purpose.'
He stood upright in the mid-region; then he took up the weapon against Vṛtra. Clothed in mist, he approached the foe; Indra, with sharp weapons, conquered the enemy.
O Bṛhaspati, with your power, strike down the fierce sons of the demon as one splits a stone. As you slew the foe with daring even before, so now, O Indra, strike down our enemy.
Hurl down the stone from the sky, O you who delight in Soma, by which you crush the enemy. In the contest for offspring and abundant cattle, grant us, O Indra, a share of the cows.
You raise up the strength that you cherish; you urge on the worshipper who is in need. Indra and Soma, protect us; in this danger, make a safe place for us.
Let me not say, 'Do not press Soma,' out of weariness or sloth. Let him who fills me, who gives, who understands, who comes to the Soma-presser with cows—let him be my friend.
Sarasvatī, protect us, you who are accompanied by the Maruts, mighty, conquering enemies. Even the one who resists, striving with force, Indra strikes down—the bull among the strong.
Whoever attacks us with hatred or seeks to harm us, strike him down with your weapon. O Bṛhaspati, conquer the enemies with your arms; O king, surround the one who wishes us harm.
With our own strong men, O hero, grant us the heroic deeds you have done. May we live long, unscathed; having slain our foes, bring us their wealth.
