योऽवरे वृजने विश्वथा विभुर्महामु रण्वः शवसा ववक्षिथ । स देवो देवान्प्रति पप्रथे पृथु विश्वेदु ता परिभूर्ब्रह्मणस्पतिः
He who, in the lower stronghold, is all-pervading, mighty, wondrous, has grown strong with power—he, the god, has spread forth among the gods, wide; Brahmaṇaspati encompasses all these.
विश्वं सत्यं मघवाना युवोरिदापश्चन प्र मिनन्ति व्रतं वाम् । अच्छेन्द्राब्रह्मणस्पती हविर्नोऽन्नं युजेव वाजिना जिगातम्
All the truth of you two, O generous ones, is here; not even the waters diminish your law. Come, Indra and Brahmaṇaspati, accept our offering, our food, as two swift steeds yoked together.
उताशिष्ठा अनु शृण्वन्ति वह्नयः सभेयो विप्रो भरते मती धना । वीळुद्वेषा अनु वश ऋणमाददिः स ह वाजी समिथे ब्रह्मणस्पतिः
The most eager fires listen in succession; the wise priest brings forth thought and wealth. Hating the fallen, he takes up the debt of service; thus, in the assembly, Brahmaṇaspati is the champion.
ब्रह्मणस्पतेरभवद्यथावशं सत्यो मन्युर्महि कर्मा करिष्यतः । यो गा उदाजत्स दिवे वि चाभजन्महीव रीतिः शवसासरत्पृथक्
Brahmaṇaspati's will became effective as he desired; his true intention accomplished a great deed. He who released the cows, divided the sky, as a mighty stream, rushed forth in strength, flowing apart.
ब्रह्मणस्पते सुयमस्य विश्वहा रायः स्याम रथ्यो वयस्वतः । वीरेषु वीराँ उप पृङ्धि नस्त्वं यदीशानो ब्रह्मणा वेषि मे हवम्
O Brahmaṇaspati, may we be lords of wealth, well-guided, possessing chariots, and long-lived. Grant us heroes among men; if you, ruling by prayer, accept my invocation.
ब्रह्मणस्पते त्वमस्य यन्ता सूक्तस्य बोधि तनयं च जिन्व । विश्वं तद्भद्रं यदवन्ति देवा बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः
O Brahmaṇaspati, you are the guide of this hymn; be aware of it, and inspire its offspring. May all that is good, which the gods protect, be ours; may we speak greatly in the assembly, strong in men.
इन्धानो अग्निं वनवद्वनुष्यतः कृतब्रह्मा शूशुवद्रातहव्य इत् । जातेन जातमति स प्र सर्सृते यंयं युजं कृणुते ब्रह्मणस्पतिः
Kindling Agni, conquering the hostile, the skilled in prayer shines forth, the receiver of offerings. Born from the born, he advances; whatever companion Brahmaṇaspati chooses, he sets forth.
वीरेभिर्वीरान्वनवद्वनुष्यतो गोभी रयिं पप्रथद्बोधति त्मना । तोकं च तस्य तनयं च वर्धते यंयं युजं कृणुते ब्रह्मणस्पतिः
With heroes he conquers heroes, overcoming the hostile; with cows he spreads wealth, awakening by his own power. He increases both offspring and descendants of him whom Brahmaṇaspati chooses as his companion.
सिन्धुर्न क्षोदः शिमीवाँ ऋघायतो वृषेव वध्रीँरभि वष्ट्योजसा । अग्नेरिव प्रसितिर्नाह वर्तवे यंयं युजं कृणुते ब्रह्मणस्पतिः
Like the surge of a river, roaring, swift, like a bull against the barren cow, he bellows with might; like the advance of fire, not to be restrained, whatever team Brahmanaspati harnesses, he makes victorious.
तस्मा अर्षन्ति दिव्या असश्चतः स सत्वभिः प्रथमो गोषु गच्छति । अनिभृष्टतविषिर्हन्त्योजसा यंयं युजं कृणुते ब्रह्मणस्पतिः
To him, the divine ones pour forth their offerings; he, with his powers, is the foremost to reach the cows; unwearied in strength, he strikes with vigor, whatever team Brahmanaspati harnesses, he makes victorious.
तस्मा इद्विश्वे धुनयन्त सिन्धवोऽच्छिद्रा शर्म दधिरे पुरूणि । देवानां सुम्ने सुभगः स एधते यंयं युजं कृणुते ब्रह्मणस्पतिः
For him, indeed, all the rivers flow together; unbroken, they grant abundant shelter; blessed by the favor of the gods, he prospers, whatever team Brahmanaspati harnesses, he makes victorious.
ऋजुरिच्छंसो वनवद्वनुष्यतो देवयन्निददेवयन्तमभ्यसत् । सुप्रावीरिद्वनवत्पृत्सु दुष्टरं यज्वेदयज्योर्वि भजाति भोजनम्
Straight in praise, eager for the forest, subduing the unsubdued, O god, you approach the godless; generous, you divide the hard-to-win prize among the pious and the impious, distributing the offering.
यजस्व वीर प्र विहि मनायतो भद्रं मनः कृणुष्व वृत्रतूर्ये । हविष्कृणुष्व सुभगो यथाससि ब्रह्मणस्पतेरव आ वृणीमहे
Sacrifice, O hero, and lead forth your thought; make your mind auspicious in the slaying of Vritra; prepare the offering, O fortunate one, as you desire; we choose the favor of Brahmanaspati.
स इज्जनेन स विशा स जन्मना स पुत्रैर्वाजं भरते धना नृभिः । देवानां यः पितरमाविवासति श्रद्धामना हविषा ब्रह्मणस्पतिम्
He, through his people, his clan, his birth, with sons and with men, wins wealth and riches, who with faith and offering calls upon Brahmanaspati, the father of the gods.
यो अस्मै हव्यैर्घृतवद्भिरविधत्प्र तं प्राचा नयति ब्रह्मणस्पतिः । उरुष्यतीमंहसो रक्षती रिषोऽंहोश्चिदस्मा उरुचक्रिरद्भुतः
Whoever serves him with offerings rich in ghee, Brahmanaspati leads him forward on the right path; the wondrous one makes wide room, protects from harm, and even from sin delivers him.
इमा गिर आदित्येभ्यो घृतस्नूः सनाद्राजभ्यो जुह्वा जुहोमि । शृणोतु मित्रो अर्यमा भगो नस्तुविजातो वरुणो दक्षो अंशः
These hymns, rich in ghee, I offer with my tongue to the Ādityas, the ancient kings; may Mitra, Aryaman, Bhaga, Varuṇa, Dakṣa, and Aṃśa, born of truth, hear us.
इमं स्तोमं सक्रतवो मे अद्य मित्रो अर्यमा वरुणो जुषन्त । आदित्यासः शुचयो धारपूता अवृजिना अनवद्या अरिष्टाः
May Mitra, Aryaman, and Varuṇa, mighty ones, accept this praise of mine today; the Ādityas, pure, purified by streams, free from sin, blameless, and unharmed.
त आदित्यास उरवो गभीरा अदब्धासो दिप्सन्तो भूर्यक्षाः । अन्तः पश्यन्ति वृजिनोत साधु सर्वं राजभ्यः परमा चिदन्ति
Those Ādityas are vast and deep, unfailing, eager to bestow, seeing much; within, they behold both the wicked and the good, and even the highest matters are not hidden from the kings.
धारयन्त आदित्यासो जगत्स्था देवा विश्वस्य भुवनस्य गोपाः । दीर्घाधियो रक्षमाणा असुर्यमृतावानश्चयमाना ऋणानि
The Ādityas uphold the moving world, the gods, guardians of all creation; far-seeing, protecting their lordship, observing the order, measuring out the debts.
विद्यामादित्या अवसो वो अस्य यदर्यमन्भय आ चिन्मयोभु । युष्माकं मित्रावरुणा प्रणीतौ परि श्वभ्रेव दुरितानि वृज्याम्
May we know, O Ādityas, your aid, so that even in adversity Aryaman may be near; by your guidance, O Mitra and Varuṇa, may we avoid misfortunes as one avoids a pit.
सुगो हि वो अर्यमन्मित्र पन्था अनृक्षरो वरुण साधुरस्ति । तेनादित्या अधि वोचता नो यच्छता नो दुष्परिहन्तु शर्म
For your path, O Aryaman, Mitra, is easy and straight, O Varuṇa, it is good; by that, O Ādityas, speak to us, grant us shelter that is not to be overcome.
पिपर्तु नो अदिती राजपुत्राति द्वेषांस्यर्यमा सुगेभिः । बृहन्मित्रस्य वरुणस्य शर्मोप स्याम पुरुवीरा अरिष्टाः
May Aditi, mother of kings, protect us from hatred; may Aryaman with easy paths; under the wide shelter of Mitra and Varuṇa, may we be unharmed, rich in men.
तिस्रो भूमीर्धारयन्त्रीँरुत द्यून्त्रीणि व्रता विदथे अन्तरेषाम् । ऋतेनादित्या महि वो महित्वं तदर्यमन्वरुण मित्र चारु
Three earths they uphold, and also three heavens, three laws among their gatherings; by truth, O Ādityas, is your greatness great, that, O Aryaman, Varuṇa, Mitra, is lovely.
त्री रोचना दिव्या धारयन्त हिरण्ययाः शुचयो धारपूताः । अस्वप्नजो अनिमिषा अदब्धा उरुशंसा ऋजवे मर्त्याय
Three shining realms of heaven they uphold, golden, pure, purified by streams; sleepless, unwinking, unfailing, wide in praise, for the straight mortal.
त्वं विश्वेषां वरुणासि राजा ये च देवा असुर ये च मर्ताः । शतं नो रास्व शरदो विचक्षेऽश्यामायूंषि सुधितानि पूर्वा
You, Varuṇa, are king of all, both gods and mortals, O Asura; grant us a hundred autumns, O far-seeing one, may we enjoy long and well-ordered lives.
न दक्षिणा वि चिकिते न सव्या न प्राचीनमादित्या नोत पश्चा । पाक्या चिद्वसवो धीर्या चिद्युष्मानीतो अभयं ज्योतिरश्याम्
Neither right nor left, neither east nor west, O Ādityas, is hidden from you; even the secret, O Vasus, even the thought, under your guidance may we see the fearless light.
यो राजभ्य ऋतनिभ्यो ददाश यं वर्धयन्ति पुष्टयश्च नित्याः । स रेवान्याति प्रथमो रथेन वसुदावा विदथेषु प्रशस्तः
He who has given to the kings who uphold truth, whom constant prosperity nourishes and increases, he advances with wealth, foremost in his chariot, renowned in the assemblies.
शुचिरपः सूयवसा अदब्ध उप क्षेति वृद्धवयाः सुवीरः । नकिष्टं घ्नन्त्यन्तितो न दूराद्य आदित्यानां भवति प्रणीतौ
Pure, possessing abundant waters, unassailable, he dwells with increased strength, blessed with good sons; none strike him from near or far, and he comes under the guidance of the Ādityas.
अदिते मित्र वरुणोत मृळ यद्वो वयं चकृमा कच्चिदागः । उर्वश्यामभयं ज्योतिरिन्द्र मा नो दीर्घा अभि नशन्तमिस्राः
Aditi, Mitra, and Varuṇa, be gracious; if we have committed any offense against you, grant us wide, fearless light, Indra, and let not long-lasting misfortunes overwhelm us.
उभे अस्मै पीपयतः समीची दिवो वृष्टिं सुभगो नाम पुष्यन् । उभा क्षयावाजयन्याति पृत्सूभावर्धौ भवतः साधू अस्मै
Both, the heavens, pour forth together for him, bestowing rain; the fortunate one receives a noble name. Both, the dwellings, he conquers in battle; both, the increases, become favorable to him.
