Now may that generous reward be granted to you, O Indra, for the singer; teach us, O bountiful one, do not withhold; may we speak great words in the assembly, strong in men.
To Indra, conqueror of all, winner of wealth, winner of light, winner of truth, subduer of men, winner of fields, winner of horses, winner of cows, winner of waters, offer the Soma, most worthy of worship.
To the overcomer, the breaker, the powerful, the enduring, the wise, the mighty, the blazing, the difficult to assail, the universal victor—speak homage to Indra.
Universal victor, consumer of hosts, subduer of men, impetuous, eager for battle, destroyer of the foe, mighty, subduer of tribes—of Indra I will declare the heroic deeds.
Unopposed, the bull, the striker, the deep, the lofty, the unassailable, the wise, the inspirer of the weak, the breaker, the broad-spread—Indra, well-worshipped, created the dawns and the light.
By sacrifice, the eager, the wise, the inspired, sought the path; the Usij priests, urging their thoughts, sat down with songs for help, seeking riches in Indra.
Indra, bestow upon us the highest treasures, intelligence, skill, and good fortune; grant us the increase of wealth, safety of bodies, sweetness of speech, and bright days.
In the Trikadruka sacrifice, the bull with barley-mixed soma, very mighty, drank the pressed soma with Vishnu as he desired; he rejoiced in it, to perform a great deed, the god joined the god—true Indra, true Soma.
Then, with his power and might, he became a champion in battle, filled both worlds with his strength, and grew great; he placed the other in his belly, he shone forth—thus the god joined the god—true Indra, true Soma.
Born together with will and strength, you grew together, mighty with heroic deeds, overcoming enemies, wise among men; giver of desired wealth to the praiser—the god joined the god—true Indra, true Soma.
That ancient heroic deed of yours, O Indra, first and foremost in heaven, is to be proclaimed; when, with the god's might, you struck down the breath and the waters, you became all-pervading with your power, O hundred-powered, you found strength and food.
We invoke you, the leader of the hosts, the sage of sages, most renowned; greatest king of prayers, O Lord of Prayer, hear us and sit down with your protections.
O Bṛhaspati, the gods, possessing divine insight, have apportioned to you the most worthy share of the sacrifice; like the dawn with the sun, you shine forth with radiance; you are the creator of all hymns through your power.
You drive away darkness and encircling gloom; you stand upon the radiant chariot of truth; O Bṛhaspati, formidable, destroyer of foes, slayer of demons, breaker of barriers, knower of the light.
With righteous guidance you lead and protect the people; whoever serves you, let him not encounter harm; you burn with wrath against haters of prayer; O Bṛhaspati, your greatness is truly great.
No harm, no evil, nor any enemy, nor those who act with duplicity, can overcome him; you drive away all dangers from such a one, O Brahmaṇaspati, whom you, as a good guardian, protect.
You are our guardian, path-maker, and wise guide; we grow old in devotion to your law; O Bṛhaspati, may whatever malice is directed against us be shattered by your swift and powerful force.
And if any mortal, with his kin, should harm us without cause, whether an enemy or a wolf in human form, O Bṛhaspati, turn him away from our path; make our way easy for this divine favor.
We call upon you as the protector of our bodies, the helper, the advocate who brings us strength; O Bṛhaspati, cast down the godless, do not let evil prevail, raise up for us the highest blessing.
With you, O Brahmaṇaspati, we, enriched, may obtain precious gifts among men; whatever dangers or enemies are far or near, strike them down, render them powerless.
With you, O Bṛhaspati, as our strong and steadfast ally, we attain the highest vigor; let not the ill-wisher, desiring to harm us, prevail; with good thoughts, may we cross over all evil.
Unopposed, like a bull, you go forth to battle; you scorch the enemy in the conflicts; you are true to your promise, O Brahmaṇaspati, and even the fierce, arrogant one you bring low.
Whoever, with godless mind, seeks to harm, who, fierce, imagines himself powerful and wishes to kill—O Bṛhaspati, let not the blow of such a one reach us; do not let the wrath of the evil-doer overpower us.
You are to be invoked in battle, approached with reverence, the one who comes to our aid in contests, the bringer of wealth; against all hostile assailants, O Bṛhaspati, you have scattered their attacks as chariots are broken apart.
With your most blazing heat, burn up the demons—those who have set themselves against you, trusting in their strength; reveal that power which is worthy of praise, O Bṛhaspati, and utterly destroy the encircling darkness.
O Bṛhaspati, when your power, worthy among the noble, shines forth with brilliance among people; when your energy, born of truth, blazes, then bestow upon us splendid and varied wealth.
Let us not fall prey to thieves who plot against us, nor to enemies who, lacking food, keep watch over our meals; the desires of the gods are fulfilled in the heart—O Bṛhaspati, no one else knows the secret of the chant.
For you, indeed, Tvaṣṭṛ has fashioned wisdom, surpassing all beings in the worlds; thus, even the debtor is freed by you, O Brahmaṇaspati, destroyer of deceit, great supporter of truth.
For your glory, the mountain parted, revealing the herd of cows when the Aṅgiras released them; with Indra as your ally, you, O Bṛhaspati, drove away the darkness and opened the ocean's waters.
O Brahmaṇaspati, you are the guide of this hymn; be attentive, inspire our offspring; may all that is good, which the gods protect, be ours; may we speak mightily in the assembly, victorious.
