He shook the vast earth with his might, made it pleasant; he led the unsatisfied to well-being; they stood forth for the generous one, eager for wealth—by the exhilaration of Soma, Indra accomplished these things.
He, with his strength, stirred the Sindhu river, crushed the dawns with his thunderbolt; he divided the swift ones with his speed—by the exhilaration of Soma, Indra accomplished these things.
He, knowing, revealed the hidden waters of the young ones, appeared and stood forth, turned back the enemy; he stood firm, and looked upon the foe—by the exhilaration of Soma, Indra accomplished these things.
He split the enclosure with the Angiras, praising; the fastnesses of the mountain were opened; he broke the artificial barriers of these—by the exhilaration of Soma, Indra accomplished these things.
With a dream you approached, and destroyed Cumuri and Dhuni; you slew the Dasyu, overcame the fear; even the trembling one found gold here—by the exhilaration of Soma, Indra accomplished these things.
Now, let your generous gift be granted to the worshipper, O Indra; let your reward be milked for us. Teach the praisers; let fortune come to us. May we speak greatly in the assembly, strong in men.
I call for you the highest praise for the best of the true, as one offers fuel to the fire in the sacrifice; we invoke Indra, unconquered, invigorating, ever youthful, for help.
From Indra, the mighty, nothing is lacking; all powers are gathered in him. In his belly is Soma, in his body strength and greatness; in his hand he holds the thunderbolt, in his head wisdom.
O Indra, your strength is not surpassed by the earths, nor is your chariot matched by oceans or mountains; no one can reach your thunderbolt when you speed forth with your swift horses over many leagues.
Indeed, all the worshipful and mighty ones bring their power to him, the Bull, who is to be praised; as a Bull, offer the oblation, most discerning, and drink, O Indra, the Soma with the radiance of a bull.
The bull's vessel flows, a wave of honey, led by bulls for the Bull to drink; the priests are bulls, the stones are bulls, and they press the bull Soma for the Bull.
Your thunderbolt is a bull, your chariot is a bull, your two bays are bulls, your weapons are bulls; O Bull, you rule over the exhilaration, O Indra, be satisfied with the bull Soma.
I approach you with praise at the gatherings, as one who brings a boat to the assembly, O Indra, you are established in the sacrifices by the hymn; may you listen to our words, may we draw forth your wealth as one draws water from a well.
From ancient distress, deliver us, as a cow her calf, eager for the pasture; with your favor, O hundred-powered one, may we, together with our wives, reach the fullness like bulls.
May your generous gift, O Indra, ever yield a choice reward for the singer; grant to the praisers, do not withhold your portion from us, so that we may speak greatly and heroically in the assembly.
Sing a new hymn to him, O Angiras, for his ancient powers are now awakened; when, in the intoxication of Soma, he set in motion all the herds that were held fast by force.
Let him be present who, for the first pressing, measured out his strength and surpassed greatness; the hero who, in battle, protected his body and with his might released the sky from the head.
Then you performed your first great deed, when at the beginning, by your power, you set your might in motion; with your chariot yoked with tawny steeds, you scattered the old ones, and the living moved together, each apart.
Then he, mastering all beings, grew in strength and advanced in his youthful vigor; then the fire stretched out the light between heaven and earth, and the shining ones spread the luminous realms.
With his strength, he shattered the ancient mountains, he made the flowing waters descend downward; he supported the earth with all its forms, and by his power, he upheld the sky with its streams.
With those arms, which his father made strong for him, he is ready for every deed from birth; with which, laying low the enemy on earth, he opened up the path with the thunderbolt, ever victorious.
Like a loving child with its parents, always together, you, O Bhaga, share in the common seat; grant us clear understanding, bring us near, bestow that portion by which we may not suffer harm.
We call upon you, O Indra, as a benefactor, may you grant us gifts, O Indra, bring us strength; do not abandon us, Indra, with your wondrous aid, make us, O Bull, possessors of wealth.
May your generous gift, O Indra, ever yield a choice reward for the singer; grant to the praisers, do not withhold your portion from us, so that we may speak greatly and heroically in the assembly.
In the morning, a new chariot is yoked for you, with four yokes, three seats, and seven reins; with ten wheels, shining for men, it is swift with offerings and thoughts.
For him, the first, the second, and also the third are prepared, and he is the priest for men; one begets another's offspring, another is born, and he, the mighty bull, joins with the others.
Let the two bays be yoked to Indra's chariot for the journey, with a new hymn and fresh words. Do not let others, O Indra, restrain you here, for many inspired priests and other worshippers seek you.
Come, Indra, with your two bays, or with four, or with six when you are invoked. Come with eight or ten to drink the soma, O generous one, may you not be held back from the contest.
Come near with twenty, with thirty, with forty yoked bays. Come, Indra, with fifty splendid steeds, with sixty, with seventy, to drink the soma.
Come near with eighty, with ninety, drawn by a hundred bays. For this soma has been poured for you, Indra, at the rites of the Shunahotras, for your exhilaration.
