Hear my call, Agni of brilliant light, immortal, wise, with all songs; the tawny ones draw your chariot, the red ones bear it, you have made the dawns your protectors.
They have produced the well-nourished, upright one; Agni became the embryo in many forms; even in the dry wood, by his powers, he dwells, unopposed, with insight.
I approach Agni with oblation and ghee, he who pervades all worlds; vast, spreading, great by his strength, most generous with food, swift to behold.
From every side I approach the one who turns away evil, may he accept this with his mind; Agni, of youthful beauty, of desirable form, I touch him, ever growing in his body.
Let us speak, O Agni, with chosen words, knowing the portion, strong, as your envoys, in the manner of Manu; I call upon Agni, never failing, with speech and sweet praise, for wealth.
Hear the call, O Indra, let us not be harmed; may we be among those you make rich; for these songs, like flowing rivers, increase your strength, O bestower of wealth.
O Indra, you released the great rivers which were held back, O hero, by the serpent; you struck down the immortal Dasa who thought himself mighty, growing strong through your songs of praise.
Indeed, O hero, in those hymns and praises, in the Rudra-like chants, O Indra, these are for you; in which, delighting, you are honored, just as the shining streams flow forth for Vayu.
Bright is your power, which we increase; bright is the thunderbolt you hold in your arms; bright are you, Indra, growing in strength among us, overcoming the Dasa hosts together with the sun.
Hidden in secret, concealed, covered in the waters, veiled in magic, dwelling there—yet, O hero, by your might you struck down the serpent who held back the waters and upheld the sky.
Let us praise, O Indra, your ancient great deeds, and let us now praise your recent acts; let us praise the thunderbolt, broad in your arms, let us praise your steeds, the banners of the sun.
Your two steeds, O Indra, bring victory, flowing with ghee, with a clear and pleasant sound; the earth, unshaken, was spread out, and even the mountain moved forward.
The mountain, loosened, fell down, rushing forth, rejoicing with its mothers; far and wide, they increased the voice, spreading the channel set in motion by Indra.
Indra, the mighty, struck down the great, lying serpent Vritra, the master of illusion; the two worlds trembled in fear at the roaring of the bull and his thunderbolt.
The thunderbolt of this bull roared aloud when the man struck the non-human; he cast down the illusions of the crafty Danu, having drunk the pressed Soma.
Drink, drink, O Indra, hero, the Soma; let the pressed juices make you rejoice; your bellies are filled and increased—thus, the pressed Soma calls Indra to us.
Through you, O Indra, we have become powerful, O wise one; let us win insight, walking in truth; let us obtain your help, let us gain praise, so that we may be ready for your wealth at once.
May we be among those, O Indra, whom you protect, who, with your help, increase our strength; O gods, let us praise the most vigorous one—grant us, Indra, wealth rich in heroes.
Grant us a dwelling, grant us friendship, grant us, Indra, your force like the Maruts; those who rejoice together, let the winds lead them to the foremost path.
Among those in whom you delight, drink the pressed Soma to your fill, O Indra; protect us in battles, increase our strength, and with great hymns, uphold the sky.
Those who are mighty, O Indra, who call you with hymns, seeking your favor, spreading the sacred grass in their homes—these, O Indra, have attained the prize.
O fierce hero, delighting, drink the Soma at the three vats, O Indra; be pleased with the bearded ones who praise you—come with your steeds to the drink of the pressed Soma.
Take up your might, O hero, with which you struck down Vritra, the Danu, like a swelling cloud; you uncovered the light for the Aryan, and from the right side, O Indra, the Dasyu sat down.
May we, with your help, overcome all hostilities, O Indra, conquering the Dasyus with Aryan strength; grant us the all-formed wealth of Tvashtar for ourselves, as you did for Tritas, the friend.
Indra, growing strong through the pressing of this exhilarating Soma, shattered the cloud; like the sun turning its wheel, he split open Vala, O Angiras.
May that generous reward, O Indra, always be granted to the singer; teach us, O giver of riches, do not withhold your portion from the praisers—may we speak mightily in the assembly, victorious.
He who, being born, was the first and most powerful, the god who by his will surpassed the other gods—by whose might heaven and earth are made to tremble, by whose heroic greatness men exist—that is Indra.
He who made firm the trembling earth, who set the mountains in motion with his anger, who measured out the wide midspace, who propped up the sky—that is Indra.
He who, having slain the serpent, released the seven rivers; who drove out the cows from the cave of Vala; who generated fire between two stones, the gatherer in battles—that is Indra.
By whom all these moving things have been set in motion; who struck down the dark-skinned Dasa hidden below; who, like a hunter of wild beasts, destroyed the many rich ones—that is Indra.
