When the forest-dweller, breaking obstacles, measures out the color from the ashes; he, discerning with bright radiance, is joyful, who, though young, is ever renewed.
He who, eager, shines forth through the forests, follows the path like a charioteer; the black path, fierce, he perceives, smiling like the sky with the clouds.
He who has spread wide the broad domain of skill, the cattle come to him, self-guided, unguarded; Agni, radiant, burns the dry, the blackened, making the earth pleasant.
Now, in this third invocation, I declare your former favor, O Agni; grant to us united strength, great and abundant, wealth, heroism, and prosperity.
As with you, O Agni, the Gritsamadas, hidden, overcame their foes, so may you grant to our praisers heroic sons, victorious, able to overcome adversaries.
The Hotar was born, conscious, father for the fathers, for help; may we, seeing the visible wealth, attain the prize of the swift.
In whom seven rays are spread, the leader of the sacrifice; among men, the eighth, the divine Potar, he upholds all this.
Whatever he, the knower, has established here, let him speak the sacred words; around all the wise works, the rim has become like a wheel.
Together with the pure, the pure one is born as the ruler by will; knowing his firm laws, he grows like wings.
The cows, his forms, his lifespans, follow the leader; perhaps the sisters, who have come here, choose the best among the threefold ones.
Just as sisters, standing by their mother, bring forth clarified butter, so the officiant, at their coming, rejoices like one who receives a shower of barley.
May heaven, for its own sake, appoint the priest for the offering; may we obtain praise, sacrifice, and devotion, and may we be fulfilled.
As one who knows rightly acts for the benefit of all who worship, so, O Agni, may you also accept the sacrifice we have performed for you.
O Agni, accept this kindling of mine, accept this approach; now, indeed, listen to these my songs.
With this hymn, O Agni, we offer to you, offspring of strength, the best of horses; with this praise, well-born one.
You, lover of song, bestower of wealth, giver of riches, we worship you with our praises, we who are devoted.
Be awake, O wise one, generous lord of wealth, bestower of riches; drive away our hatreds.
May he bring us rain from heaven, may he bring us unobstructed strength, may he grant us abundant riches.
To the one who desires, to the one who calls, O youngest messenger, come to us with our song; most fit for sacrifice, O priest, come.
Within, O Agni, you move, wise in both births, O sage; as a messenger, you are friendly to both races.
He, knowing, brings and enjoys, discerning ever anew; and he sits here on this sacred grass.
O youngest, most excellent Agni of the Bhāratas, bring us the most radiant and much-desired wealth, O giver.
Let not the enmity of god or mortal rule over us; protect us also from the hatred of that one.
By you, may we overcome all hatreds, as streams overcome obstacles.
Pure, bright, and worthy of praise, O Agni, you shine greatly; you are invoked with offerings of ghee.
You are for us, O Agni of the Bhāratas, with your gifts and oxen; you are invoked with eight-footed (verses).
May the flow of clarified butter be for us, O ancient, most excellent priest, wondrous son of strength.
Now, as if urging on chariots, praise the assemblies of Agni, the most glorious, the bountiful.
He who, well-guided, is generous to the worshipper, unfailing, wearing down the foe, beautiful in form, is invoked.
He who, resplendent, is praised in the homes for his glory at dusk and dawn, whose law never fails.
