एवा नो अग्ने अमृतेषु पूर्व्य धीष्पीपाय बृहद्दिवेषु मानुषा । दुहाना धेनुर्वृजनेषु कारवे त्मना शतिनं पुरुरूपमिषणि
Thus, O Agni, among the immortals, you have been foremost, filling the great heavens for men; like a milch-cow yielding in the gatherings for the poet, by your nature you grant abundant, manifold riches.
वयमग्ने अर्वता वा सुवीर्यं ब्रह्मणा वा चितयेमा जनाँ अति । अस्माकं द्युम्नमधि पञ्च कृष्टिषूच्चा स्वर्ण शुशुचीत दुष्टरम्
We, O Agni, would gain heroic strength by swift horses or by prayer among peoples; may our glory shine high among the five tribes, let the radiant light blaze forth, unconquered.
स नो बोधि सहस्य प्रशंस्यो यस्मिन्सुजाता इषयन्त सूरयः । यमग्ने यज्ञमुपयन्ति वाजिनो नित्ये तोके दीदिवांसं स्वे दमे
Be mindful of us, O mighty Agni, worthy of praise, in whom noble men seek to prosper; whom, O Agni, the strong come to with sacrifice, ever shining in their own house, in their lineage.
उभयासो जातवेदः स्याम ते स्तोतारो अग्ने सूरयश्च शर्मणि । वस्वो रायः पुरुश्चन्द्रस्य भूयसः प्रजावतः स्वपत्यस्य शग्धि नः
May we, O Jātavedas, be both your praisers and prosperous under your protection, O Agni; grant us the wealth of the generous, ever-increasing, full of offspring, and true lordship.
ये स्तोतृभ्यो गोअग्रामश्वपेशसमग्ने रातिमुपसृजन्ति सूरयः । अस्माञ्च ताँश्च प्र हि नेषि वस्य आ बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः
Those generous ones who bestow gifts of cattle, villages, and splendid horses upon the praisers, O Agni, lead us and them to prosperity, so that we may speak forth greatly in the assembly, victorious.
समिद्धो अग्निर्निहितः पृथिव्यां प्रत्यङ्विश्वानि भुवनान्यस्थात् । होता पावकः प्रदिवः सुमेधा देवो देवान्यजत्वग्निरर्हन्
Agni, kindled and established on earth, has stood facing all the worlds; the pure Hotar, wise from heaven, let the god Agni, worthy, worship the gods.
नराशंसः प्रति धामान्यञ्जन्तिस्रो दिवः प्रति मह्ना स्वर्चिः । घृतप्रुषा मनसा हव्यमुन्दन्मूर्धन्यज्ञस्य समनक्तु देवान्
Narāśaṃsa marks out the places, three from heaven, his ray by his greatness; sprinkled with ghee, let him, with mind, carry the offering, let him unite the gods at the summit of the sacrifice.
ईळितो अग्ने मनसा नो अर्हन्देवान्यक्षि मानुषात्पूर्वो अद्य । स आ वह मरुतां शर्धो अच्युतमिन्द्रं नरो बर्हिषदं यजध्वम्
Praised, O Agni, by our mind, you are worthy; you have led the gods, not men, today; bring here the steadfast host of the Maruts, and Indra, O men, worship him seated on the grass.
देव बर्हिर्वर्धमानं सुवीरं स्तीर्णं राये सुभरं वेद्यस्याम् । घृतेनाक्तं वसवः सीदतेदं विश्वे देवा आदित्या यज्ञियासः
O god, may the sacred grass, growing strong, well-spread for wealth, be known; anointed with ghee, let the Vasus sit here, all the gods, the Ādityas, worthy of sacrifice.
वि श्रयन्तामुर्विया हूयमाना द्वारो देवीः सुप्रायणा नमोभिः । व्यचस्वतीर्वि प्रथन्तामजुर्या वर्णं पुनाना यशसं सुवीरम्
Let the divine doors, wide and easy to traverse, be spread open with reverence; shining, let them extend widely, unaging, purifying their form, glorious and heroic.
साध्वपांसि सनता न उक्षिते उषासानक्ता वय्येव रण्विते । तन्तुं ततं संवयन्ती समीची यज्ञस्य पेशः सुदुघे पयस्वती
Let the paths be easy for us, as for the oxen; dawn and night, like two women, urge us on; weaving the stretched thread together, they prepare the beauty of the sacrifice, ever-yielding, full of milk.
दैव्या होतारा प्रथमा विदुष्टर ऋजु यक्षतः समृचा वपुष्टरा । देवान्यजन्तावृतुथा समञ्जतो नाभा पृथिव्या अधि सानुषु त्रिषु
The two divine Hotars, first and most knowing, perform the rite straight, most beautiful; they worship the gods in due order, at the navel of the earth, on the three summits.
सरस्वती साधयन्ती धियं न इळा देवी भारती विश्वतूर्तिः । तिस्रो देवीः स्वधया बर्हिरेदमच्छिद्रं पान्तु शरणं निषद्य
May Sarasvati, who perfects understanding, Ila the goddess, Bharati, all-knowing—these three goddesses, by their own power, seated on the sacred grass, protect this unbroken refuge.
पिशङ्गरूपः सुभरो वयोधाः श्रुष्टी वीरो जायते देवकामः । प्रजां त्वष्टा वि ष्यतु नाभिमस्मे अथा देवानामप्येतु पाथः
With tawny form, bearing abundance, strong in vigor, a heroic son is born who desires the gods; may Tvashtar extend our offspring, and may the path of the gods come to us.
वनस्पतिरवसृजन्नुप स्थादग्निर्हविः सूदयाति प्र धीभिः । त्रिधा समक्तं नयतु प्रजानन्देवेभ्यो दैव्यः शमितोप हव्यम्
The forest-lord has let flow, Agni has approached; he cooks the offering with his thoughts; may the divine sacrificer, in threefold measure, lead the well-apportioned oblation to the gods.
घृतं मिमिक्षे घृतमस्य योनिर्घृते श्रितो घृतम्वस्य धाम । अनुष्वधमा वह मादयस्व स्वाहाकृतं वृषभ वक्षि हव्यम्
Ghee has been produced, ghee is his womb, in ghee he is established, ghee is his dwelling; carry, delighting, the offering made with 'svaha', O bull, bring the oblation.
हुवे वः सुद्योत्मानं सुवृक्तिं विशामग्निमतिथिं सुप्रयसम् । मित्र इव यो दिधिषाय्यो भूद्देव आदेवे जने जातवेदाः
I call upon you, radiant, praised with good hymns, Agni, guest of the people, well-guided; who, like a friend, is worthy of desire, O Jatavedas, god among gods, among men.
इमं विधन्तो अपां सधस्थे द्वितादधुर्भृगवो विक्ष्वायोः । एष विश्वान्यभ्यस्तु भूमा देवानामग्निररतिर्जीराश्वः
Having established him in the seat of waters, the Bhrigus set him twice among the peoples; this Agni, ever-young, swift as a horse, has encompassed all the realms of the gods.
अग्निं देवासो मानुषीषु विक्षु प्रियं धुः क्षेष्यन्तो न मित्रम् । स दीदयदुशतीरूर्म्या आ दक्षाय्यो यो दास्वते दम आ
The gods have made Agni dear among human tribes, like a friend, wishing to dwell; may he shine forth, spreading his flames, skillful, who comes to the house of the generous.
अस्य रण्वा स्वस्येव पुष्टिः संदृष्टिरस्य हियानस्य दक्षोः । वि यो भरिभ्रदोषधीषु जिह्वामत्यो न रथ्यो दोधवीति वारान्
His abundant prosperity is like his own wealth, his vision is that of the wise, his skill does not diminish; who, bearing gifts, moves among the plants, his tongue, like a charioteer, stirs the waters.
आ यन्मे अभ्वं वनदः पनन्तोशिग्भ्यो नामिमीत वर्णम् । स चित्रेण चिकिते रंसु भासा जुजुर्वाँ यो मुहुरा युवा भूत्
When the forest-dweller, breaking obstacles, measures out the color from the ashes; he, discerning with bright radiance, is joyful, who, though young, is ever renewed.
आ यो वना तातृषाणो न भाति वार्ण पथा रथ्येव स्वानीत् । कृष्णाध्वा तपू रण्वश्चिकेत द्यौरिव स्मयमानो नभोभिः
He who, eager, shines forth through the forests, follows the path like a charioteer; the black path, fierce, he perceives, smiling like the sky with the clouds.
स यो व्यस्थादभि दक्षदुर्वीं पशुर्नैति स्वयुरगोपाः । अग्निः शोचिष्माँ अतसान्युष्णन्कृष्णव्यथिरस्वदयन्न भूम
He who has spread wide the broad domain of skill, the cattle come to him, self-guided, unguarded; Agni, radiant, burns the dry, the blackened, making the earth pleasant.
नू ते पूर्वस्यावसो अधीतौ तृतीये विदथे मन्म शंसि । अस्मे अग्ने संयद्वीरं बृहन्तं क्षुमन्तं वाजं स्वपत्यं रयिं दाः
Now, in this third invocation, I declare your former favor, O Agni; grant to us united strength, great and abundant, wealth, heroism, and prosperity.
त्वया यथा गृत्समदासो अग्ने गुहा वन्वन्त उपराँ अभि ष्युः । सुवीरासो अभिमातिषाहः स्मत्सूरिभ्यो गृणते तद्वयो धाः
As with you, O Agni, the Gritsamadas, hidden, overcame their foes, so may you grant to our praisers heroic sons, victorious, able to overcome adversaries.
होताजनिष्ट चेतनः पिता पितृभ्य ऊतये । प्रयक्षञ्जेन्यं वसु शकेम वाजिनो यमम्
The Hotar was born, conscious, father for the fathers, for help; may we, seeing the visible wealth, attain the prize of the swift.
आ यस्मिन्सप्त रश्मयस्तता यज्ञस्य नेतरि । मनुष्वद्दैव्यमष्टमं पोता विश्वं तदिन्वति
In whom seven rays are spread, the leader of the sacrifice; among men, the eighth, the divine Potar, he upholds all this.
दधन्वे वा यदीमनु वोचद्ब्रह्माणि वेरु तत् । परि विश्वानि काव्या नेमिश्चक्रमिवाभवत्
Whatever he, the knower, has established here, let him speak the sacred words; around all the wise works, the rim has become like a wheel.
साकं हि शुचिना शुचिः प्रशास्ता क्रतुनाजनि । विद्वाँ अस्य व्रता ध्रुवा वया इवानु रोहते
Together with the pure, the pure one is born as the ruler by will; knowing his firm laws, he grows like wings.
ता अस्य वर्णमायुवो नेष्टुः सचन्त धेनवः । कुवित्तिसृभ्य आ वरं स्वसारो या इदं ययुः
The cows, his forms, his lifespans, follow the leader; perhaps the sisters, who have come here, choose the best among the threefold ones.
