तस्मिन्ना वेशया गिरो य एकश्चर्षणीनाम् । अनु स्वधा यमुप्यते यवं न चर्कृषद्वृषा
To him direct your songs, who alone among peoples is praised; whom, according to his nature, they approach, like barley, the bull who bestows.
यस्य विश्वानि हस्तयोः पञ्च क्षितीनां वसु । स्पाशयस्व यो अस्मध्रुग्दिव्येवाशनिर्जहि
In whose two hands are all the treasures of the five peoples; seek out him who is hostile to us, like a bolt from heaven, strike him down.
असुन्वन्तं समं जहि दूणाशं यो न ते मयः । अस्मभ्यमस्य वेदनं दद्धि सूरिश्चिदोहते
Strike down the non-sacrificer, the malicious one, who is not your friend; grant us knowledge of this, even the wise one does not take away our portion.
आवो यस्य द्विबर्हसोऽर्केषु सानुषगसत् । आजाविन्द्रस्येन्दो प्रावो वाजेषु वाजिनम्
He whose twofold might abides with the hymns, whose power is joined with the summit—bring us, O Indra, O Soma, to the prize, bring the vigorous one to the contests.
यथा पूर्वेभ्यो जरितृभ्य इन्द्र मय इवापो न तृष्यते बभूथ । तामनु त्वा निविदं जोहवीमि विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम्
Just as in former times, O Indra, you became for the singers like water that never tires, so now I call upon you with this invocation—may we know this people, long-lived.
आ चर्षणिप्रा वृषभो जनानां राजा कृष्टीनां पुरुहूत इन्द्रः । स्तुतः श्रवस्यन्नवसोप मद्रिग्युक्त्वा हरी वृषणा याह्यर्वाङ्
The bull, the lord of men, the king of peoples, Indra, much-invoked, comes forth; praised, seeking renown, come to our offering, yoke your two strong steeds and approach swiftly.
ये ते वृषणो वृषभास इन्द्र ब्रह्मयुजो वृषरथासो अत्याः । ताँ आ तिष्ठ तेभिरा याह्यर्वाङ्हवामहे त्वा सुत इन्द्र सोमे
Those strong, bull-like, powerful steeds of yours, O Indra, yoked by hymns, chariot-drawing, swift—mount them, come with them, come swiftly; we call you, Indra, to the pressed Soma.
आ तिष्ठ रथं वृषणं वृषा ते सुतः सोमः परिषिक्ता मधूनि । युक्त्वा वृषभ्यां वृषभ क्षितीनां हरिभ्यां याहि प्रवतोप मद्रिक्
Mount your strong chariot, O mighty one; your pressed Soma is poured out with sweets. Yoke the two strong steeds, O bull of the people, come with the bay horses to our offering.
अयं यज्ञो देवया अयं मियेध इमा ब्रह्माण्ययमिन्द्र सोमः । स्तीर्णं बर्हिरा तु शक्र प्र याहि पिबा निषद्य वि मुचा हरी इह
This is the sacrifice for the gods, this is the wise act, these are the hymns, this, Indra, is the Soma. The seat is spread—come, O Shakra, drink, sit down, release your horses here.
ओ सुष्टुत इन्द्र याह्यर्वाङुप ब्रह्माणि मान्यस्य कारोः । विद्याम वस्तोरवसा गृणन्तो विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम्
O well-praised Indra, come swiftly to the hymns of the worthy singer. May we, singing, know the wealth by your favor; may we know this people, long-lived.
यद्ध स्या त इन्द्र श्रुष्टिरस्ति यया बभूथ जरितृभ्य ऊती । मा नः कामं महयन्तमा धग्विश्वा ते अश्यां पर्याप आयोः
Whenever, O Indra, you have that favor by which you became a helper to the singers—may our great desire not be left unfulfilled; may I attain all your riches, O mighty one.
न घा राजेन्द्र आ दभन्नो या नु स्वसारा कृणवन्त योनौ । आपश्चिदस्मै सुतुका अवेषन्गमन्न इन्द्रः सख्या वयश्च
No king, O Indra, can harm you; even those who are your sisters cannot touch your place. Even the waters, eager to flow, come to him; Indra has found friendship and strength.
जेता नृभिरिन्द्रः पृत्सु शूरः श्रोता हवं नाधमानस्य कारोः । प्रभर्ता रथं दाशुष उपाक उद्यन्ता गिरो यदि च त्मना भूत्
Indra is the conqueror with men, the hero in battles, the hearer of the call of the humble singer. He sets forth the chariot for the worshipper, he raises the songs, if he is truly himself.
एवा नृभिरिन्द्रः सुश्रवस्या प्रखादः पृक्षो अभि मित्रिणो भूत् । समर्य इष स्तवते विवाचि सत्राकरो यजमानस्य शंसः
Thus Indra, famed among men, is glorious, the mighty one surpasses his rivals. He is praised for strength in every assembly; the worshipper’s praise makes him steadfast.
त्वया वयं मघवन्निन्द्र शत्रूनभि ष्याम महतो मन्यमानान् । त्वं त्राता त्वमु नो वृधे भूर्विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम्
With you, O generous Indra, may we overcome enemies, those who think themselves great. You are our protector, you are our strength; may we know this people, long-lived.
पूर्वीरहं शरदः शश्रमाणा दोषा वस्तोरुषसो जरयन्तीः । मिनाति श्रियं जरिमा तनूनामप्यू नु पत्नीर्वृषणो जगम्युः
I have endured many autumns, growing weary, the nights and dawns wearing away my strength. Old age diminishes the beauty of bodies, yet the strong have still reached their wives.
ये चिद्धि पूर्व ऋतसाप आसन्साकं देवेभिरवदन्नृतानि । ते चिदवासुर्नह्यन्तमापुः समू नु पत्नीर्वृषभिर्जगम्युः
Even those who formerly kept the law, together with the gods, spoke untruths. Even they, growing weak, have not attained the utmost; yet the strong have still reached their wives.
न मृषा श्रान्तं यदवन्ति देवा विश्वा इत्स्पृधो अभ्यश्नवाव । जयावेदत्र शतनीथमाजिं यत्सम्यञ्चा मिथुनावभ्यजाव
It is not in vain that the gods help the weary; I have overcome all rivals. Here I have won a hundredfold battle, when the two, rightly paired, have come together.
नदस्य मा रुधतः काम आगन्नित आजातो अमुतः कुतश्चित् । लोपामुद्रा वृषणं नी रिणाति धीरमधीरा धयति श्वसन्तम्
No desire, though restrained, has come to me from here or there, from wherever it may be. Lopamudra draws the strong one near; the wise woman, resolute, tames the panting man.
इमं नु सोममन्तितो हृत्सु पीतमुप ब्रुवे । यत्सीमागश्चकृमा तत्सु मृळतु पुलुकामो हि मर्त्यः
Now I call upon this Soma, pressed and drunk in the hearts. Whatever act we have done, may he pardon it, for man is indeed eager for pleasure.
अगस्त्यः खनमानः खनित्रैः प्रजामपत्यं बलमिच्छमानः । उभौ वर्णावृषिरुग्रः पुपोष सत्या देवेष्वाशिषो जगाम
Agastya, digging with spades, seeking offspring, progeny, and strength, the mighty seer nourished both races; he attained true blessings among the gods.
युवो रजांसि सुयमासो अश्वा रथो यद्वां पर्यर्णांसि दीयत् । हिरण्यया वां पवयः प्रुषायन्मध्वः पिबन्ता उषसः सचेथे
Your realms, well-guided horses, and chariot are bestowed when you traverse the paths; your golden filter pours forth, and you partake of honey, joining with the dawn.
युवमत्यस्याव नक्षथो यद्विपत्मनो नर्यस्य प्रयज्योः । स्वसा यद्वां विश्वगूर्ती भराति वाजायेट्टे मधुपाविषे च
You do not neglect the offering of the noble, the worshipper, when he seeks your favor; your sister brings you universal praise, desiring strength and honeyed drink.
युवं पय उस्रियायामधत्तं पक्वमामायामव पूर्व्यं गोः । अन्तर्यद्वनिनो वामृतप्सू ह्वारो न शुचिर्यजते हविष्मान्
You have placed milk in the cow's udder, the ripe and ancient gift; when the sacrificer, pure and offering, invokes you among the woods, he worships you with oblations.
युवं ह घर्मं मधुमन्तमत्रयेऽपो न क्षोदोऽवृणीतमेषे । तद्वां नरावश्विना पश्वइष्टी रथ्येव चक्रा प्रति यन्ति मध्वः
You have chosen the honeyed warmth for the guest, as waters select the channel; so, O Ashvins, the cattle seek you, and the honey flows like wheels along the road.
आ वां दानाय ववृतीय दस्रा गोरोहेण तौग्र्यो न जिव्रिः । अपः क्षोणी सचते माहिना वां जूर्णो वामक्षुरंहसो यजत्रा
For your giving, O wondrous ones, I would turn as a strong man with the strength of a bull; the waters and the earth attend your greatness, and the swift, worshipful one praises you.
नि यद्युवेथे नियुतः सुदानू उप स्वधाभिः सृजथः पुरंधिम् । प्रेषद्वेषद्वातो न सूरिरा महे ददे सुव्रतो न वाजम्
When you harness your generous steeds, you send forth the nourishing one with your powers; like a swift wind, the wise gives for greatness, and the well-willed one grants strength.
वयं चिद्धि वां जरितारः सत्या विपन्यामहे वि पणिर्हितावान् । अधा चिद्धि ष्माश्विनावनिन्द्या पाथो हि ष्मा वृषणावन्तिदेवम्
We, your singers, indeed proclaim your truth with praise, for the reward is set; thus, O Ashvins, the paths are never to be blamed, for the strong ones always lead to the divine.
युवां चिद्धि ष्माश्विनावनु द्यून्विरुद्रस्य प्रस्रवणस्य सातौ । अगस्त्यो नरां नृषु प्रशस्तः काराधुनीव चितयत्सहस्रैः
You, O Ashvins, always follow the days, at the stream of the mighty one; Agastya, renowned among men, like a craftsman, shines forth with thousands.
प्र यद्वहेथे महिना रथस्य प्र स्यन्द्रा याथो मनुषो न होता । धत्तं सूरिभ्य उत वा स्वश्व्यं नासत्या रयिषाचः स्याम
When you advance with the greatness of your chariot, you move swiftly like a human priest; grant to the wise, and also to your own horses, O Nasatyas, that we may be rich in treasures.
