परा शुभ्रा अयासो यव्या साधारण्येव मरुतो मिमिक्षुः । न रोदसी अप नुदन्त घोरा जुषन्त वृधं सख्याय देवाः
The bright ones, the swift, have gone forth, like those sharing a common path, the Maruts have moved. The terrible ones do not drive away the earth and sky; the gods accept the aged for friendship.
जोषद्यदीमसुर्या सचध्यै विषितस्तुका रोदसी नृमणाः । आ सूर्येव विधतो रथं गात्त्वेषप्रतीका नभसो नेत्या
When he desires to join with the Sun, he, swift and praised, fills the two worlds with his strength; like the Sun, he guides the chariot skillfully, his fierce aspect leading it through the sky.
आस्थापयन्त युवतिं युवानः शुभे निमिश्लां विदथेषु पज्राम् । अर्को यद्वो मरुतो हविष्मान्गायद्गाथं सुतसोमो दुवस्यन्
The young men set forth the youthful maiden, beautiful and blinking, in the gatherings; when the sacrificial song is offered to you, Maruts, the Soma-pressers sing the hymn with devotion.
प्र तं विवक्मि वक्म्यो य एषां मरुतां महिमा सत्यो अस्ति । सचा यदीं वृषमणा अहंयु स्थिरा चिज्जनीर्वहते सुभागाः
I proclaim that greatness of theirs, which is truly the majesty of the Maruts; when they unite, the mighty ones, even the firm-born, the blessed, are carried forth by their power.
पान्ति मित्रावरुणाववद्याच्चयत ईमर्यमो अप्रशस्तान् । उत च्यवन्ते अच्युता ध्रुवाणि वावृध ईं मरुतो दातिवारः
Mitra and Varuna protect from blame, and Yama removes the unworthy; even the fixed and steadfast things are shaken, for the Maruts, the generous, increase their gifts.
नही नु वो मरुतो अन्त्यस्मे आरात्ताच्चिच्छवसो अन्तमापुः । ते धृष्णुना शवसा शूशुवांसोऽर्णो न द्वेषो धृषता परि ष्ठुः
Indeed, Maruts, none among you is the last for us; even from afar, your power reaches its limit; with bold might, shining, you roar, like waves, fierce, surrounding with strength.
वयमद्येन्द्रस्य प्रेष्ठा वयं श्वो वोचेमहि समर्ये । वयं पुरा महि च नो अनु द्यून्तन्न ऋभुक्षा नरामनु ष्यात्
Today we are the favorites of Indra, and tomorrow we shall speak in the contest; in times past and in the days to come, may the noble ones, the Ribhus, follow us.
एष व स्तोमो मरुत इयं गीर्मान्दार्यस्य मान्यस्य कारोः । एषा यासीष्ट तन्वे वयां विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम्
This praise, Maruts, this song, is from the poet Mandarya, worthy of honor; may this be granted to our descendants, may we know this people, long-lived.
यज्ञायज्ञा वः समना तुतुर्वणिर्धियंधियं वो देवया उ दधिध्वे । आ वोऽर्वाचः सुविताय रोदस्योर्महे ववृत्यामवसे सुवृक्तिभिः
Sacrifice after sacrifice, with united minds, you have spread wisdom, O gods; we invoke you from nearby for good fortune, with strong hymns, for great help.
वव्रासो न ये स्वजाः स्वतवस इषं स्वरभिजायन्त धूतयः । सहस्रियासो अपां नोर्मय आसा गावो वन्द्यासो नोक्षणः
Like calves, born of their own strength, the streams have produced nourishment and light; mighty, they move upon the waters, these cows, worthy of praise, never ceasing.
सोमासो न ये सुतास्तृप्तांशवो हृत्सु पीतासो दुवसो नासते । ऐषामंसेषु रम्भिणीव रारभे हस्तेषु खादिश्च कृतिश्च सं दधे
Like pressed Somas, satisfied and full, they drink in the heart, the blessed ones sit; in their flesh, like a lush creeper, they delight, in their hands, food and work are placed together.
अव स्वयुक्ता दिव आ वृथा ययुरमर्त्याः कशया चोदत त्मना । अरेणवस्तुविजाता अचुच्यवुर्दृळ्हानि चिन्मरुतो भ्राजदृष्टयः
Self-yoked from heaven, the immortals have come swiftly, urged by their own will; born of dust, they shake even the firm things, the Maruts, with shining vision.
को वोऽन्तर्मरुत ऋष्टिविद्युतो रेजति त्मना हन्वेव जिह्वया । धन्वच्युत इषां न यामनि पुरुप्रैषा अहन्यो नैतशः
Who among you, Maruts, flashes with inner lightning, stirring by his own will, like a tongue striking; moving on the sands, in pursuit of nourishment, with many paths, like a youngling, he goes here and there.
क्व स्विदस्य रजसो महस्परं क्वावरं मरुतो यस्मिन्नायय । यच्च्यावयथ विथुरेव संहितं व्यद्रिणा पतथ त्वेषमर्णवम्
Where, indeed, is the boundary of this vast realm, where is the shelter in which the Maruts have arrived; when you shake together the gathered things, like a winnower, you fly over the mighty ocean with force.
सातिर्न वोऽमवती स्वर्वती त्वेषा विपाका मरुतः पिपिष्वती । भद्रा वो रातिः पृणतो न दक्षिणा पृथुज्रयी असुर्येव जञ्जती
Your protection is helpful, full of light, fierce, ripened, Maruts, desiring to nourish; your generous gift is auspicious, like a giver, broad-spread, powerful, like a lord, restless.
प्रति ष्टोभन्ति सिन्धवः पविभ्यो यदभ्रियां वाचमुदीरयन्ति । अव स्मयन्त विद्युतः पृथिव्यां यदी घृतं मरुतः प्रुष्णुवन्ति
The rivers resound in response to the winds, when they utter their speech in abundance; the lightnings shine upon the earth, when the Maruts sprinkle the butter.
असूत पृश्निर्महते रणाय त्वेषमयासां मरुतामनीकम् । ते सप्सरासोऽजनयन्ताभ्वमादित्स्वधामिषिरां पर्यपश्यन्
Prishni has given birth for great battle, the fierce host of the Maruts; they, sparkling, have produced the waters, seeking nourishment, they observed the offerings all around.

O Indra, you are great, and from you comes these mighty ones; you are the protector of the powerful; may the wise creator, knowing the Maruts, grant us favor, for we are your favorites.
अयुज्रन्त इन्द्र विश्वकृष्टीर्विदानासो निष्षिधो मर्त्यत्रा । मरुतां पृत्सुतिर्हासमाना स्वर्मीळ्हस्य प्रधनस्य सातौ
O Indra, the unyoked ones have set in motion all the peoples; the wise, unopposed by mortals, the Maruts' contest, shining forth, in the battle for the sun-filled prize.
अम्यक्सा त इन्द्र ऋष्टिरस्मे सनेम्यभ्वं मरुतो जुनन्ति । अग्निश्चिद्धि ष्मातसे शुशुक्वानापो न द्वीपं दधति प्रयांसि
That protection of yours, Indra, is here for us; the Maruts drive away the hostile one with their strength. Even Agni, blazing, supports you; like waters bearing an island, they carry forth your paths.
त्वं तू न इन्द्र तं रयिं दा ओजिष्ठया दक्षिणयेव रातिम् । स्तुतश्च यास्ते चकनन्त वायो स्तनं न मध्वः पीपयन्त वाजैः
You, Indra, grant to us that wealth, most mighty, as a generous gift, like a reward for skill. And those winds whom you have praised, O Vāyu, they, like streams of honey, fill the breast with riches.
त्वे राय इन्द्र तोशतमाः प्रणेतारः कस्य चिदृतायोः । ते षु णो मरुतो मृळयन्तु ये स्मा पुरा गातूयन्तीव देवाः
In you, Indra, the most delightful riches are placed, leaders of the righteous, whoever they may be. May those Maruts show us mercy, who, like gods of old, have always guided the path.
प्रति प्र याहीन्द्र मीळ्हुषो नॄन्महः पार्थिवे सदने यतस्व । अध यदेषां पृथुबुध्नास एतास्तीर्थे नार्यः पौंस्यानि तस्थुः
Come forth, Indra, to the generous men; strive for greatness in the earthly seat. For here, those of broad foundation, these noble ones, have stood firm at the crossing of heroic deeds.
प्रति घोराणामेतानामयासां मरुतां शृण्व आयतामुपब्दिः । ये मर्त्यं पृतनायन्तमूमैरृणावानं न पतयन्त सर्गैः
Hear, O Indra, the call of these fierce, tireless Maruts; let the answer come near. They, with their might, do not let the mortal who seeks battle fall, but protect him with their powers.
त्वं मानेभ्य इन्द्र विश्वजन्या रदा मरुद्भिः शुरुधो गोअग्राः । स्तवानेभि स्तवसे देव देवैर्विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम्
You, Indra, with the Maruts, grant all kinds of wealth to those who praise you, strong in battle, with the strength of bulls. With these hymns, you are praised, O god among gods; may we know this people, long-lived, victorious.
न नूनमस्ति नो श्वः कस्तद्वेद यदद्भुतम् । अन्यस्य चित्तमभि संचरेण्यमुताधीतं वि नश्यति
There is truly no today or tomorrow; who knows what is wondrous? The mind of another is hard to follow; even what is learned is lost.
किं न इन्द्र जिघांससि भ्रातरो मरुतस्तव । तेभिः कल्पस्व साधुया मा नः समरणे वधीः
Why, Indra, do you wish to harm us? The Maruts are your brothers. Act together with them in goodness; do not strike us down in battle.
किं नो भ्रातरगस्त्य सखा सन्नति मन्यसे । विद्मा हि ते यथा मनोऽस्मभ्यमिन्न दित्ससि
Why, O brother Agastya, though you are a friend, do you think ill of us? For we know your mind—how you do not wish to give to us.
अरं कृण्वन्तु वेदिं समग्निमिन्धतां पुरः । तत्रामृतस्य चेतनं यज्ञं ते तनवावहै
Let them prepare the altar well, and kindle the fire in front. There let us bring the awareness of immortality, and offer you the sacrifice.
