When the poet invokes for the day, for the day's sake, he has made us worthy of honor by his wisdom. Now, Maruts, let the inspired one approach; let the singer praise you with these hymns.
This is your praise, Maruts, this song of the poet, worthy of honor, of the singer. May this one go forth for his own self; may we know this people, long-lived.
Let us now speak of that ancient greatness for the eager one, for the birth of the bull, for the sign. Like fire kindled, like the Maruts, strong in force, like warriors in battle, do mighty deeds, O powerful ones.
Ever bearing sweetness for the son, they play joyfully in the assemblies, the vigorous ones. The Rudras do not harm the reverent one with their favor, nor do the self-powerful ones injure the one who offers sacrifice.
To whom the immortal attendants have granted wealth and nourishment, and who offers oblations with devotion; for him, the Maruts pour forth blessings, like friends, with abundant waters across many regions.
They have stretched out the realms with their might; their own strength has moved forth, unrestrained. All beings and dwellings tremble before them; your approach is wondrous in the streaming showers.
When, with their force, they cause the mountains to resound, or shake the lofty sky, the noble ones; all your actions make the trees tremble, and the herbs flee as if driven by chariots.
You, O mighty Maruts, with wise counsel, protect the unharmed hosts and bestow good favor. Where your lightning flashes, the storm roars, and the cattle are scattered as if by a well-made shelter.
With firm strength, unwearied in giving, praised in the assemblies, they sing to the sun for the joy of the intoxicating drink. They know the foremost deeds of the heroic one.
With a hundred arms, let them protect from harm; let the Maruts guard whom they favor. The fierce, powerful, radiant ones defend the people, bringing blessings and prosperity to their offspring.
All auspicious powers are placed in your chariots, Maruts, like rivals striving with vigor. On your shoulders, on the paths, are ornaments; the axle and wheels turn together, spreading far.
Many splendid adornments are on your noble arms, on your breasts are golden ornaments, shining and swift. On your shoulders, on the shafts, are blades; like wings on birds, your splendors are arranged.
Great in greatness, abundant in abundance, far-seeing, like heavenly beings with beauty. Delightful, well-tongued, sounding with voices, mingled with Indra, Maruts, you sing the stotra.
This is your noble greatness, Maruts, your long-lasting gift, your vow like that of Aditi. Even Indra cannot surpass it by force; you grant favor to the one who acts well.
This is your kinship, Maruts, from ancient times, when you, immortal ones, bring blessings. With this thought, you have made yourselves known to Manu, together, O men, with your shining weapons.
By which, Maruts, we have long praised you, by your protection, O swift ones. When the people spread out, let us attain the desired goal with these sacrifices.
This praise is for you, Maruts, this song from the poet Mandarya, the honored one. May this be wished for the body, may we know this people, long-lived and strong.
A thousand, O Indra, are your helps for us; a thousand riches, O golden one, most praised. A thousand joys for delight; let the thousand-bearing steeds come to us.
Let the Maruts come to us with their aid, with the eldest, with the great heavens, with good wisdom. When their troops reach the farthest shore, they even cross the ocean.
Among whom are well-made, shining chariots, with golden fittings, like a sharp spear. Moving secretly, like a woman among men, the speech comes together in the assembly.
The bright ones, the swift, have gone forth, like those sharing a common path, the Maruts have moved. The terrible ones do not drive away the earth and sky; the gods accept the aged for friendship.
When he desires to join with the Sun, he, swift and praised, fills the two worlds with his strength; like the Sun, he guides the chariot skillfully, his fierce aspect leading it through the sky.
The young men set forth the youthful maiden, beautiful and blinking, in the gatherings; when the sacrificial song is offered to you, Maruts, the Soma-pressers sing the hymn with devotion.
I proclaim that greatness of theirs, which is truly the majesty of the Maruts; when they unite, the mighty ones, even the firm-born, the blessed, are carried forth by their power.
Mitra and Varuna protect from blame, and Yama removes the unworthy; even the fixed and steadfast things are shaken, for the Maruts, the generous, increase their gifts.
Indeed, Maruts, none among you is the last for us; even from afar, your power reaches its limit; with bold might, shining, you roar, like waves, fierce, surrounding with strength.
Today we are the favorites of Indra, and tomorrow we shall speak in the contest; in times past and in the days to come, may the noble ones, the Ribhus, follow us.
This praise, Maruts, this song, is from the poet Mandarya, worthy of honor; may this be granted to our descendants, may we know this people, long-lived.
Sacrifice after sacrifice, with united minds, you have spread wisdom, O gods; we invoke you from nearby for good fortune, with strong hymns, for great help.
Like calves, born of their own strength, the streams have produced nourishment and light; mighty, they move upon the waters, these cows, worthy of praise, never ceasing.
