स हि शर्धो न मारुतं तुविष्वणिरप्नस्वतीषूर्वरास्विष्टनिरार्तनास्विष्टनिः । आदद्धव्यान्याददिर्यज्ञस्य केतुरर्हणा । अध स्मास्य हर्षतो हृषीवतो विश्वे जुषन्त पन्थां नरः शुभे न पन्थाम्
He, like a host, is stormy as the Maruts, roaring mightily, swift in the fertile fields, swift in the barren lands; he takes up the offerings to be taken, the sign of sacrifice, worthy of worship; then, delighted and rejoicing, all men gladly follow his path, as on a splendid road.
द्विता यदीं कीस्तासो अभिद्यवो नमस्यन्त उपवोचन्त भृगवो मथ्नन्तो दाशा भृगवः । अग्निरीशे वसूनां शुचिर्यो धर्णिरेषाम् । प्रियाँ अपिधीँर्वनिषीष्ट मेधिर आ वनिषीष्ट मेधिरः
When the Bhrigus, worshippers, praised him with devotion, churned him, the Bhrigus, the givers, Agni is the lord of riches, pure, the foundation of these; let the wise one keep the beloved treasures, let the wise one keep them.
विश्वासां त्वा विशां पतिं हवामहे सर्वासां समानं दम्पतिं भुजे सत्यगिर्वाहसं भुजे । अतिथिं मानुषाणां पितुर्न यस्यासया । अमी च विश्वे अमृतास आ वयो हव्या देवेष्वा वयः
We invoke you as the lord of all peoples, the common master of all, with true praise, as the companion of all; the guest of men, like a father, whose seat is not to be left; and all these immortals, the birds, carry the offerings to the gods.
त्वमग्ने सहसा सहन्तमः शुष्मिन्तमो जायसे देवतातये रयिर्न देवतातये । शुष्मिन्तमो हि ते मदो द्युम्निन्तम उत क्रतुः । अध स्मा ते परि चरन्त्यजर श्रुष्टीवानो नाजर
You, Agni, are the most powerful in might, most vigorous, born for divine service, wealth for divine service; most vigorous is your exhilaration, most splendid also your will; therefore, ever-calling, the undying ones move around you, the ever-hearing.
प्र वो महे सहसा सहस्वत उषर्बुधे पशुषे नाग्नये स्तोमो बभूत्वग्नये । प्रति यदीं हविष्मान्विश्वासु क्षासु जोगुवे । अग्रे रेभो न जरत ऋषूणां जूर्णिर्होत ऋषूणाम्
May our praise be for the great, the mighty, the powerful, the herdsman, for Agni, for Agni; when, with offering, he is present in all dwellings; at the forefront, like a roaring bull among the seers, the Hotar, the strong among the seers.
स नो नेदिष्ठं ददृशान आ भराग्ने देवेभिः सचनाः सुचेतुना महो रायः सुचेतुना । महि शविष्ठ नस्कृधि संचक्षे भुजे अस्यै । महि स्तोतृभ्यो मघवन्सुवीर्यं मथीरुग्रो न शवसा
Bring to us, O Agni, the nearest vision, together with the gods, with good counsel, great wealth with good counsel; grant us, mighty one, abundance for this one; grant to the praisers, O generous one, heroic strength, as a fierce one with power.
अयं जायत मनुषो धरीमणि होता यजिष्ठ उशिजामनु व्रतमग्निः स्वमनु व्रतम् । विश्वश्रुष्टिः सखीयते रयिरिव श्रवस्यते । अदब्धो होता नि षददिळस्पदे परिवीत इळस्पदे
This Agni is born in the abode of men, the most fit Hotar, following the law of the Usij, his own law; he is heard by all, he is a friend, wealth is renowned like fame; the blameless Hotar sits in the place of offering, surrounded in the place of offering.
तं यज्ञसाधमपि वातयामस्यृतस्य पथा नमसा हविष्मता देवताता हविष्मता । स न ऊर्जामुपाभृत्यया कृपा न जूर्यति । यं मातरिश्वा मनवे परावतो देवं भाः परावतः
We send him, fit for sacrifice, on the path of truth, with reverence and offering, for the divine portion, with offering; may he bring us the nourishment, like a helper, he does not grow old; whom Mātariśvan brought to Manu from afar, the god's light from afar.

स सुक्रतुः पुरोहितो दमेदमेऽग्निर्यज्ञस्याध्वरस्य चेतति क्रत्वा यज्ञस्य चेतति । क्रत्वा वेधा इषूयते विश्वा जातानि पस्पशे । यतो घृतश्रीरतिथिरजायत वह्निर्वेधा अजायत
He, wise in counsel, is the house-priest of this house, Agni, perceives the sacrifice and the ritual by his will; by his will, the wise one is desired, he observes all beings; from whom, rich in ghee, the guest was born, the fire, the wise one, was born.
क्रत्वा यदस्य तविषीषु पृञ्चतेऽग्नेरवेण मरुतां न भोज्येषिराय न भोज्या । स हि ष्मा दानमिन्वति वसूनां च मज्मना । स नस्त्रासते दुरितादभिह्रुतः शंसादघादभिह्रुतः
When, by his will, they seek his strength, for Agni's help, as for the Maruts, for enjoyment, for the sake of enjoyment; for he truly apportions the gift, and the wealth by his measure; he protects us from evil, from the curse, from harm, from the curse.
विश्वो विहाया अरतिर्वसुर्दधे हस्ते दक्षिणे तरणिर्न शिश्रथच्छ्रवस्यया न शिश्रथत् । विश्वस्मा इदिषुध्यते देवत्रा हव्यमोहिषे । विश्वस्मा इत्सुकृते वारमृण्वत्यग्निर्द्वारा व्यृण्वति
The universal benefactor has placed all delight in his right hand; the swift one has not failed in glory, he has not failed. For him, indeed, the oblation is prepared among the gods; for him, the offering is brought. For him, who acts well, the path is opened; Agni opens the doors for him.
स मानुषे वृजने शंतमो हितोऽग्निर्यज्ञेषु जेन्यो न विश्पतिः प्रियो यज्ञेषु विश्पतिः । स हव्या मानुषाणामिळा कृतानि पत्यते । स नस्त्रासते वरुणस्य धूर्तेर्महो देवस्य धूर्तेः
He, Agni, is the most auspicious in human gatherings, established like a lord in sacrifices, beloved in sacrifices, the lord of the people. He rules over the offerings made by men with reverence. He protects us from the yoke of Varuṇa, from the yoke of the great god.
अग्निं होतारमीळते वसुधितिं प्रियं चेतिष्ठमरतिं न्येरिरे हव्यवाहं न्येरिरे । विश्वायुं विश्ववेदसं होतारं यजतं कविम् । देवासो रण्वमवसे वसूयवो गीर्भी रण्वं वसूयवः
They seek Agni as the priest, the giver of wealth, the dear and most active, they have set him as the carrier of offerings. The gods have established him, all-knowing, all-wise, the worshipful priest, the sage, for help, with songs, the delightful one, the bestower of wealth.
यं त्वं रथमिन्द्र मेधसातयेऽपाका सन्तमिषिर प्रणयसि प्रानवद्य नयसि । सद्यश्चित्तमभिष्टये करो वशश्च वाजिनम् । सास्माकमनवद्य तूतुजान वेधसामिमां वाचं न वेधसाम्
O Indra, whom you guide as a chariot for the gaining of wisdom, even if he is far away, you bring him near, you lead him unharmed. At once, for the desired goal, you make the mind and the steed obedient. May this faultless speech of the wise be ours, may it be of the wise.
स श्रुधि यः स्मा पृतनासु कासु चिद्दक्षाय्य इन्द्र भरहूतये नृभिरसि प्रतूर्तये नृभिः । यः शूरैः स्वः सनिता यो विप्रैर्वाजं तरुता । तमीशानास इरधन्त वाजिनं पृक्षमत्यं न वाजिनम्
Hear us, O Indra, who in every battle, with skill, are called by men for help, by men for victory. He who wins with heroes, who overcomes with sages, to him the lords grant the prize, the strong one, like a well-bred steed, the strong one.
दस्मो हि ष्मा वृषणं पिन्वसि त्वचं कं चिद्यावीरररुं शूर मर्त्यं परिवृणक्षि मर्त्यम् । इन्द्रोत तुभ्यं तद्दिवे तद्रुद्राय स्वयशसे । मित्राय वोचं वरुणाय सप्रथः सुमृळीकाय सप्रथः
For you, indeed, you fill the skin with strength, you cover some man with glory, O hero, you protect the mortal, you cover the mortal. O Indra, for you, for that, for Rudra, for the famed one, for Mitra, for Varuṇa, for the gracious one, I speak, for the gracious one.
अस्माकं व इन्द्रमुश्मसीष्टये सखायं विश्वायुं प्रासहं युजं वाजेषु प्रासहं युजम् । अस्माकं ब्रह्मोतयेऽवा पृत्सुषु कासु चित् । नहि त्वा शत्रु स्तरते स्तृणोषि यं विश्वं शत्रुं स्तृणोषि यम्
May Indra be ours for strength, as a friend, all-pervading, victorious, yoked in battles, victorious, yoked. May our prayer be for his help, in any of the contests. No enemy overcomes you; you subdue every foe, you subdue.
नि षू नमातिमतिं कयस्य चित्तेजिष्ठाभिररणिभिर्नोतिभिरुग्राभिरुग्रोतिभिः । नेषि णो यथा पुरानेनाः शूर मन्यसे । विश्वानि पूरोरप पर्षि वह्निरासा वह्निर्नो अच्छ
With the swiftest, most powerful, and fierce prayers, with the strongest invocations, bow down any hostility, wherever it may be. Lead us as before, O hero, as you think fit. Remove all the offenses of the forefathers, O fire, come to us, O fire.
प्र तद्वोचेयं भव्यायेन्दवे हव्यो न य इषवान्मन्म रेजति रक्षोहा मन्म रेजति । स्वयं सो अस्मदा निदो वधैरजेत दुर्मतिम् । अव स्रवेदघशंसोऽवतरमव क्षुद्रमिव स्रवेत्
Now I would declare this for the glorious Indra, as an offering, whose praise, like an arrow, shakes the demon, my praise shakes the demon. May he himself strike down our enemies with weapons, conquer the evil-minded. Let the evil-wisher melt away, let the lowly one melt away like water.
वनेम तद्धोत्रया चितन्त्या वनेम रयिं रयिवः सुवीर्यं रण्वं सन्तं सुवीर्यम् । दुर्मन्मानं सुमन्तुभिरेमिषा पृचीमहि । आ सत्याभिरिन्द्रं द्युम्नहूतिभिर्यजत्रं द्युम्नहूतिभिः
May we win that by the priesthood, by the inspired, may we win wealth, abundant riches, splendid heroic power. May we turn the ill-minded to good counsel, may we seek the favor. With true, glorious invocations, may we approach Indra, worthy of worship, with glorious invocations.
प्रप्रा वो अस्मे स्वयशोभिरूती परिवर्ग इन्द्रो दुर्मतीनां दरीमन्दुर्मतीनाम् । स्वयं सा रिषयध्यै या न उपेषे अत्रैः । हतेमसन्न वक्षति क्षिप्ता जूर्णिर्न वक्षति
May Indra, with his own glorious aids, bring us distinction; may he scatter the assemblies of the evil-minded, scatter the evil-minded. May he himself destroy those who approach with harm. Let the hostile one be struck down, let the cast-down one not rise, like a broken reed, let him not rise.
त्वं न इन्द्र राया परीणसा याहि पथाँ अनेहसा पुरो याह्यरक्षसा । सचस्व नः पराक आ सचस्वास्तमीक आ । पाहि नो दूरादारादभिष्टिभिः सदा पाह्यभिष्टिभिः
You, O Indra, with unfailing wealth, go before us on the path, unhindered, drive away the demons. Accompany us on the distant way, accompany us on the near way. Protect us from afar and from near with your aids, always protect us with your aids.
त्वं न इन्द्र राया तरूषसोग्रं चित्त्वा महिमा सक्षदवसे महे मित्रं नावसे । ओजिष्ठ त्रातरविता रथं कं चिदमर्त्य । अन्यमस्मद्रिरिषेः कं चिदद्रिवो रिरिक्षन्तं चिदद्रिवः
You, O Indra, with wealth, subdue the mighty, you alone, with your greatness, are seen as a great friend for help, as a great friend. Most powerful protector, savior, you guide the chariot, O immortal one. May another, not of us, be harmed, O crusher, may another who wishes us harm be harmed, O crusher.
पाहि न इन्द्र सुष्टुत स्रिधोऽवयाता सदमिद्दुर्मतीनां देवः सन्दुर्मतीनाम् । हन्ता पापस्य रक्षसस्त्राता विप्रस्य मावतः । अधा हि त्वा जनिता जीजनद्वसो रक्षोहणं त्वा जीजनद्वसो
Protect us, O Indra, well-praised, from the envious, always drive away the evil-minded, O god, drive away the evil-minded. Slayer of evil, protector of the inspired, do not abandon us. For thus the creator has begotten you, O benefactor, as the slayer of demons, he has begotten you, O benefactor.
एन्द्र याह्युप नः परावतो नायमच्छा विदथानीव सत्पतिरस्तं राजेव सत्पतिः । हवामहे त्वा वयं प्रयस्वन्तः सुते सचा । पुत्रासो न पितरं वाजसातये मंहिष्ठं वाजसातये
O Indra, come to us from afar, directly, like a true lord to the gatherings, like the sun to the setting, like a true lord. We call upon you, eager for the prize, together with the pressed Soma. Like sons to a father for the gaining of strength, most mighty for the gaining of strength.
पिबा सोममिन्द्र सुवानमद्रिभिः कोशेन सिक्तमवतं न वंसगस्तातृषाणो न वंसगः । मदाय हर्यताय ते तुविष्टमाय धायसे । आ त्वा यच्छन्तु हरितो न सूर्यमहा विश्वेव सूर्यम्
Drink the pressed Soma, O Indra, with the stones, poured into the vessel, like a thirsty calf at the udder. For your intoxication, for your delight, for your great strength, may the bays bring you, like all the gods bring the sun.
अविन्दद्दिवो निहितं गुहा निधिं वेर्न गर्भं परिवीतमश्मन्यनन्ते अन्तरश्मनि । व्रजं वज्री गवामिव सिषासन्नङ्गिरस्तमः । अपावृणोदिष इन्द्रः परीवृता द्वार इषः परीवृताः
He found the hidden treasure laid in the sky, the embryo of truth, enveloped in the boundless stone. Longing for the herd, the wielder of the bolt, like the Aṅgirases, dispelled the darkness. Indra opened the closed doors of the treasure.
दादृहाणो वज्रमिन्द्रो गभस्त्योः क्षद्मेव तिग्ममसनाय सं श्यदहिहत्याय सं श्यत् । संविव्यान ओजसा शवोभिरिन्द्र मज्मना । तष्टेव वृक्षं वनिनो नि वृश्चसि परश्वेव नि वृश्चसि
Indra, holding the bolt in his hands, struck like one who splits wood with a sharp axe, for the slaying of the serpent. Expanding with might and power, Indra, with his force, like a carver fells a tree, you cut down with the axe.
त्वं वृथा नद्य इन्द्र सर्तवेऽच्छा समुद्रमसृजो रथाँ इव वाजयतो रथाँ इव । इत ऊतीरयुञ्जत समानमर्थमक्षितम् । धेनूरिव मनवे विश्वदोहसो जनाय विश्वदोहसः
O Indra, you let the rivers flow freely for crossing, you sent them toward the ocean like racing chariots. By your guidance, they move together toward the same, unfailing goal, like cows yielding milk for Manu, for all people, giving their bounty to all.
