अस्तोढ्वं स्तोम्या ब्रह्मणा मेऽवीवृधध्वमुशतीरुषासः । युष्माकं देवीरवसा सनेम सहस्रिणं च शतिनं च वाजम्
I have praised you with my hymn and song; may you, Dawns, be increased; with your favor, O goddesses, may we attain a thousandfold and hundredfold prize.
प्राता रत्नं प्रातरित्वा दधाति तं चिकित्वान्प्रतिगृह्या नि धत्ते । तेन प्रजां वर्धयमान आयू रायस्पोषेण सचते सुवीरः
In the morning, the wise one brings forth a treasure, receives it, and sets it down; with it, increasing his offspring and lifespan, he prospers with wealth and heroic strength.
सुगुरसत्सुहिरण्यः स्वश्वो बृहदस्मै वय इन्द्रो दधाति । यस्त्वायन्तं वसुना प्रातरित्वो मुक्षीजयेव पदिमुत्सिनाति
Indra bestows upon him a good dwelling, much gold, fine horses, and great abundance, who, bringing you the morning gift, releases the treasure as a winner frees a foot from a snare.
आयमद्य सुकृतं प्रातरिच्छन्निष्टेः पुत्रं वसुमता रथेन । अंशोः सुतं पायय मत्सरस्य क्षयद्वीरं वर्धय सूनृताभिः
Today, bringing the morning gift, he approaches with a chariot full of wealth, like a son to his father; let him drink the pressed juice of the Soma, and with true words, increase the strength of the hero.
उप क्षरन्ति सिन्धवो मयोभुव ईजानं च यक्ष्यमाणं च धेनवः । पृणन्तं च पपुरिं च श्रवस्यवो घृतस्य धारा उप यन्ति विश्वतः
The rivers flow together, bringing joy, and the cows come to the one who sacrifices and worships; those who fill and those who pour out, all renowned, streams of ghee come from every side.
नाकस्य पृष्ठे अधि तिष्ठति श्रितो यः पृणाति स ह देवेषु गच्छति । तस्मा आपो घृतमर्षन्ति सिन्धवस्तस्मा इयं दक्षिणा पिन्वते सदा
He who gives stands established on the summit of the sky; he who fills goes among the gods; for him, the waters bring ghee, the rivers flow, and for him, this offering is always abundant.
दक्षिणावतामिदिमानि चित्रा दक्षिणावतां दिवि सूर्यासः । दक्षिणावन्तो अमृतं भजन्ते दक्षिणावन्तः प्र तिरन्त आयुः
These splendid things belong to the giver; for those who give, the suns shine in the sky; those with gifts partake of immortality, and those with gifts extend their lifespan.
मा पृणन्तो दुरितमेन आरन्मा जारिषुः सूरयः सुव्रतासः । अन्यस्तेषां परिधिरस्तु कश्चिदपृणन्तमभि सं यन्तु शोकाः
May those who give not encounter misfortune, nor may their sons be harmed, O noble ones; let some boundary be set for others, but let sorrows come upon the one who does not give.
अमन्दान्स्तोमान्प्र भरे मनीषा सिन्धावधि क्षियतो भाव्यस्य । यो मे सहस्रममिमीत सवानतूर्तो राजा श्रव इच्छमानः
With my thought I bring forth abundant praises, for the lord of the Sindhu, the dweller in riches; he who measured out a thousand for me, the generous king, desiring fame.
शतं राज्ञो नाधमानस्य निष्काञ्छतमश्वान्प्रयतान्सद्य आदम् । शतं कक्षीवाँ असुरस्य गोनां दिवि श्रवोऽजरमा ततान
A hundred golden necklets of the king who does not withhold, a hundred horses, ready and harnessed, at once; a hundred cows of Kakṣīvant the lord, and his fame is spread in heaven, undecaying.
उप मा श्यावाः स्वनयेन दत्ता वधूमन्तो दश रथासो अस्थुः । षष्टिः सहस्रमनु गव्यमागात्सनत्कक्षीवाँ अभिपित्वे अह्नाम्
To me, ten chariots with brides, given by the Śyāva, have come; sixty thousand cattle followed, and the wealth of Kakṣīvant came in abundance at the day's end.
चत्वारिंशद्दशरथस्य शोणाः सहस्रस्याग्रे श्रेणिं नयन्ति । मदच्युतः कृशनावतो अत्यान्कक्षीवन्त उदमृक्षन्त पज्राः
Forty red horses of the ten-charioted one lead the line at the head of the thousand; the swift steeds of Kakṣīvant, pouring out the intoxicating drink, have surpassed the rest.
पूर्वामनु प्रयतिमा ददे वस्त्रीन्युक्ताँ अष्टावरिधायसो गाः । सुबन्धवो ये विश्या इव व्रा अनस्वन्तः श्रव ऐषन्त पज्राः
Following the earlier gift, I received garments, yoked eight times, and cows; close friends, like clansmen, the charioteers without wagons, have attained fame.
आगधिता परिगधिता या कशीकेव जङ्गहे । ददाति मह्यं यादुरी याशूनां भोज्या शता
She who is adorned, encircled, like a girdle on the thigh of a Kashi woman, the Yaduri gives me hundreds of enjoyable things, swift and plentiful.
उपोप मे परा मृश मा मे दभ्राणि मन्यथाः । सर्वाहमस्मि रोमशा गन्धारीणामिवाविका
Come near to me, examine me thoroughly, do not think little of my smallness; I am entirely hairy, like a ewe among the Gandharis.
अग्निं होतारं मन्ये दास्वन्तं वसुं सूनुं सहसो जातवेदसं विप्रं न जातवेदसम् । य ऊर्ध्वया स्वध्वरो देवो देवाच्या कृपा । घृतस्य विभ्राष्टिमनु वष्टि शोचिषाजुह्वानस्य सर्पिषः
I regard Agni as the Hotar, the generous, the wealthy son of strength, the knower of all births, a sage like the knower of all births; the god, pure in his rites, with divine compassion, follows the shining flow of ghee with his flame, as he offers the clarified butter.
यजिष्ठं त्वा यजमाना हुवेम ज्येष्ठमङ्गिरसां विप्र मन्मभिर्विप्रेभिः शुक्र मन्मभिः । परिज्मानमिव द्यां होतारं चर्षणीनाम् । शोचिष्केशं वृषणं यमिमा विशः प्रावन्तु जूतये विशः
We invoke you, most fit for sacrifice, O Agni, the greatest of the Angirases, O sage, with our hymns, with the purest thoughts; like a guardian of the sky, the Hotar of the peoples, with flaming hair, the strong one whom the clans support for help.
स हि पुरू चिदोजसा विरुक्मता दीद्यानो भवति द्रुहंतरः परशुर्न द्रुहंतरः । वीळु चिद्यस्य समृतौ श्रुवद्वनेव यत्स्थिरम् । निःषहमाणो यमते नायते धन्वासहा नायते
For he, shining with much strength and radiance, becomes the destroyer of the foe, like an axe, not a destroyer of the foe; even those who lie low in his presence, as in a dense forest, whatever is firm, he overcomes and subdues, he leads forth, unconquered in battle.
दृळ्हा चिदस्मा अनु दुर्यथा विदे तेजिष्ठाभिररणिभिर्दाष्ट्यवसेऽग्नये दाष्ट्यवसे । प्र यः पुरूणि गाहते तक्षद्वनेव शोचिषा । स्थिरा चिदन्ना नि रिणात्योजसा नि स्थिराणि चिदोजसा
Even the strongholds yield to him; you know the paths, with the swiftest kindling-sticks for the sake of the offering to Agni, for the sake of the offering; he who pierces many, as a carpenter with his flame, even firm foods he cuts through with his strength, yes, even the firmest with his strength.
तमस्य पृक्षमुपरासु धीमहि नक्तं यः सुदर्शतरो दिवातरादप्रायुषे दिवातरात् । आदस्यायुर्ग्रभणवद्वीळु शर्म न सूनवे । भक्तमभक्तमवो व्यन्तो अजरा अग्नयो व्यन्तो अजराः
We meditate on the brightness among the dark ones, who is more clearly seen by night than by day, not in the short-lived day; to him, as to a son, we grasp the shelter, both for the devoted and the undevoted, the undying Agnis, granting protection.
स हि शर्धो न मारुतं तुविष्वणिरप्नस्वतीषूर्वरास्विष्टनिरार्तनास्विष्टनिः । आदद्धव्यान्याददिर्यज्ञस्य केतुरर्हणा । अध स्मास्य हर्षतो हृषीवतो विश्वे जुषन्त पन्थां नरः शुभे न पन्थाम्
He, like a host, is stormy as the Maruts, roaring mightily, swift in the fertile fields, swift in the barren lands; he takes up the offerings to be taken, the sign of sacrifice, worthy of worship; then, delighted and rejoicing, all men gladly follow his path, as on a splendid road.
द्विता यदीं कीस्तासो अभिद्यवो नमस्यन्त उपवोचन्त भृगवो मथ्नन्तो दाशा भृगवः । अग्निरीशे वसूनां शुचिर्यो धर्णिरेषाम् । प्रियाँ अपिधीँर्वनिषीष्ट मेधिर आ वनिषीष्ट मेधिरः
When the Bhrigus, worshippers, praised him with devotion, churned him, the Bhrigus, the givers, Agni is the lord of riches, pure, the foundation of these; let the wise one keep the beloved treasures, let the wise one keep them.
विश्वासां त्वा विशां पतिं हवामहे सर्वासां समानं दम्पतिं भुजे सत्यगिर्वाहसं भुजे । अतिथिं मानुषाणां पितुर्न यस्यासया । अमी च विश्वे अमृतास आ वयो हव्या देवेष्वा वयः
We invoke you as the lord of all peoples, the common master of all, with true praise, as the companion of all; the guest of men, like a father, whose seat is not to be left; and all these immortals, the birds, carry the offerings to the gods.
त्वमग्ने सहसा सहन्तमः शुष्मिन्तमो जायसे देवतातये रयिर्न देवतातये । शुष्मिन्तमो हि ते मदो द्युम्निन्तम उत क्रतुः । अध स्मा ते परि चरन्त्यजर श्रुष्टीवानो नाजर
You, Agni, are the most powerful in might, most vigorous, born for divine service, wealth for divine service; most vigorous is your exhilaration, most splendid also your will; therefore, ever-calling, the undying ones move around you, the ever-hearing.
प्र वो महे सहसा सहस्वत उषर्बुधे पशुषे नाग्नये स्तोमो बभूत्वग्नये । प्रति यदीं हविष्मान्विश्वासु क्षासु जोगुवे । अग्रे रेभो न जरत ऋषूणां जूर्णिर्होत ऋषूणाम्
May our praise be for the great, the mighty, the powerful, the herdsman, for Agni, for Agni; when, with offering, he is present in all dwellings; at the forefront, like a roaring bull among the seers, the Hotar, the strong among the seers.
स नो नेदिष्ठं ददृशान आ भराग्ने देवेभिः सचनाः सुचेतुना महो रायः सुचेतुना । महि शविष्ठ नस्कृधि संचक्षे भुजे अस्यै । महि स्तोतृभ्यो मघवन्सुवीर्यं मथीरुग्रो न शवसा
Bring to us, O Agni, the nearest vision, together with the gods, with good counsel, great wealth with good counsel; grant us, mighty one, abundance for this one; grant to the praisers, O generous one, heroic strength, as a fierce one with power.
अयं जायत मनुषो धरीमणि होता यजिष्ठ उशिजामनु व्रतमग्निः स्वमनु व्रतम् । विश्वश्रुष्टिः सखीयते रयिरिव श्रवस्यते । अदब्धो होता नि षददिळस्पदे परिवीत इळस्पदे
This Agni is born in the abode of men, the most fit Hotar, following the law of the Usij, his own law; he is heard by all, he is a friend, wealth is renowned like fame; the blameless Hotar sits in the place of offering, surrounded in the place of offering.
तं यज्ञसाधमपि वातयामस्यृतस्य पथा नमसा हविष्मता देवताता हविष्मता । स न ऊर्जामुपाभृत्यया कृपा न जूर्यति । यं मातरिश्वा मनवे परावतो देवं भाः परावतः
We send him, fit for sacrifice, on the path of truth, with reverence and offering, for the divine portion, with offering; may he bring us the nourishment, like a helper, he does not grow old; whom Mātariśvan brought to Manu from afar, the god's light from afar.
एवेन सद्यः पर्येति पार्थिवं मुहुर्गी रेतो वृषभः कनिक्रदद्दधद्रेतः कनिक्रदत् । शतं चक्षाणो अक्षभिर्देवो वनेषु तुर्वणिः । सदो दधान उपरेषु सानुष्वग्निः परेषु सानुषु
Thus, at once, he goes around the earthly realm, again and again, the bull, roaring, deposits his seed, roaring; seeing with a hundred eyes, the god, swift in the forests; Agni, placing his seat on the heights, on the summits.
स सुक्रतुः पुरोहितो दमेदमेऽग्निर्यज्ञस्याध्वरस्य चेतति क्रत्वा यज्ञस्य चेतति । क्रत्वा वेधा इषूयते विश्वा जातानि पस्पशे । यतो घृतश्रीरतिथिरजायत वह्निर्वेधा अजायत
He, wise in counsel, is the house-priest of this house, Agni, perceives the sacrifice and the ritual by his will; by his will, the wise one is desired, he observes all beings; from whom, rich in ghee, the guest was born, the fire, the wise one, was born.
