अगच्छतं कृपमाणं परावति पितुः स्वस्य त्यजसा निबाधितम् । स्वर्वतीरित ऊतीर्युवोरह चित्रा अभीके अभवन्नभिष्टयः
You went to the one weeping in a distant place, bound by his own father's command; your splendid aids, O Ashvins, truly became manifest in the presence of the seeker.
उत स्या वां मधुमन्मक्षिकारपन्मदे सोमस्यौशिजो हुवन्यति । युवं दधीचो मन आ विवासथोऽथा शिरः प्रति वामश्व्यं वदत्
And your honey-sweet bee, the drinker of Soma, calls you, O Ashvins, with the prayer of Ushij; you drew forth Dadhichi's mind, then his head spoke to you with the horse's voice.
युवं पेदवे पुरुवारमश्विना स्पृधां श्वेतं तरुतारं दुवस्यथः । शर्यैरभिद्युं पृतनासु दुष्टरं चर्कृत्यमिन्द्रमिव चर्षणीसहम्
You, O Ashvins, grant abundant favor to Pedu, the white-horsed, victorious in contests; in battles, you make the difficult easy with your weapons, supporting the people like Indra.
का राधद्धोत्राश्विना वां को वां जोष उभयोः । कथा विधात्यप्रचेताः
Who, O Ashvins, can attain your favor through sacrifice? Who can delight you both? How can the unknowing arrange your worship?
विद्वांसाविद्दुरः पृच्छेदविद्वानित्थापरो अचेताः । नू चिन्नु मर्ते अक्रौ
The wise one asks, seeking to know; the unwise, not understanding, asks differently; even among mortals, there is doubt.
ता विद्वांसा हवामहे वां ता नो विद्वांसा मन्म वोचेतमद्य । प्रार्चद्दयमानो युवाकुः
We, knowing, call upon you both; may you, knowing, hear our song today; the eager youth has approached you.
वि पृच्छामि पाक्या न देवान्वषट्कृतस्याद्भुतस्य दस्रा । पातं च सह्यसो युवं च रभ्यसो नः
I question you, wondrous ones, as one asks the gods about the marvel of the sacrifice; may you, mighty ones, and you, helpful ones, protect us.
प्र या घोषे भृगवाणे न शोभे यया वाचा यजति पज्रियो वाम् । प्रैषयुर्न विद्वान्
That which shines in the sound of the Bhrigu, by which the singer worships you with his voice; the messenger, not knowing, sends forth.
श्रुतं गायत्रं तकवानस्याहं चिद्धि रिरेभाश्विना वाम् । आक्षी शुभस्पती दन्
I have heard the song of Takavāna, O Ashvins, and I rejoice in you; your eyes are lords of beauty.
युवं ह्यास्तं महो रन्युवं वा यन्निरततंसतम् । ता नो वसू सुगोपा स्यातं पातं नो वृकादघायोः
You are indeed the protectors of great wealth, you who are always present; may you be our good guardians, protect us from the wolf and from evil.
मा कस्मै धातमभ्यमित्रिणे नो माकुत्रा नो गृहेभ्यो धेनवो गुः । स्तनाभुजो अशिश्वीः
Do not give to any enemy of ours, do not let our cows go elsewhere or from our homes; may they, full-uddered, remain with us.
दुहीयन्मित्रधितये युवाकु राये च नो मिमीतं वाजवत्यै । इषे च नो मिमीतं धेनुमत्यै
For the friendship of Mitra, for your favor, O youthful ones, measure out for us wealth abounding in strength; measure out for us, too, abundance rich in nourishment.
अश्विनोरसनं रथमनश्वं वाजिनीवतोः । तेनाहं भूरि चाकन
The chariot of the Ashvins, yoked without horses, full of vigor—by that I have often rejoiced.
अयं समह मा तनूह्याते जनाँ अनु । सोमपेयं सुखो रथः
This, indeed, is the assembly; may you, O Ashvins, extend our bodies; among the people, the chariot that brings the Soma-drink is easy to ride.
अध स्वप्नस्य निर्विदेऽभुञ्जतश्च रेवतः । उभा ता बस्रि नश्यतः
Then, in the weariness of sleep and in the enjoyment of splendor, may both of you, O radiant ones, protect us.
कदित्था नॄँः पात्रं देवयतां श्रवद्गिरो अङ्गिरसां तुरण्यन् । प्र यदानड्विश आ हर्म्यस्योरु क्रंसते अध्वरे यजत्रः
When, O swift one, will you hear the prayers of the devout men, the songs of the Angirases? When, at the sacrifice, does the worshipful one stride widely to the house of the generous?
स्तम्भीद्ध द्यां स धरुणं प्रुषायदृभुर्वाजाय द्रविणं नरो गोः । अनु स्वजां महिषश्चक्षत व्रां मेनामश्वस्य परि मातरं गोः
He propped up the sky, he established the support; the mighty one, for the prize, gave riches to men from the cow. The buffalo, following his own kin, beheld the herds; he measured the mother of the horse and the cow.
नक्षद्धवमरुणीः पूर्व्यं राट् तुरो विशामङ्गिरसामनु द्यून् । तक्षद्वज्रं नियुतं तस्तम्भद्द्यां चतुष्पदे नर्याय द्विपादे
He did not abandon the ancient law, the red ones, the first ruler; the swift one, following the Angirases, the days. He fashioned the thunderbolt, the troop; he propped up the sky for the four-footed and the two-footed.
अस्य मदे स्वर्यं दा ऋतायापीवृतमुस्रियाणामनीकम् । यद्ध प्रसर्गे त्रिककुम्निवर्तदप द्रुहो मानुषस्य दुरो वः
By his exhilaration, grant the heavenly, O righteous one, the abundance of the cows. When, at the onset, the triple-peak turned aside, keep far from us the malice of man.
तुभ्यं पयो यत्पितरावनीतां राधः सुरेतस्तुरणे भुरण्यू । शुचि यत्ते रेक्ण आयजन्त सबर्दुघायाः पय उस्रियायाः
To you belongs the milk which the two parents have drawn, O bountiful, swift, and generous one. Pure is that which they have offered to you with the streak, the milk of the ever-yielding, the cow.
अध प्र जज्ञे तरणिर्ममत्तु प्र रोच्यस्या उषसो न सूरः । इन्दुर्येभिराष्ट स्वेदुहव्यैः स्रुवेण सिञ्चञ्जरणाभि धाम
Then was born the swift one, let him rejoice; like the sun at the breaking of dawn he shines forth. O Indra, with those who are fit for offering, pour with the ladle, with the streams, the Soma for the dwelling.
स्विध्मा यद्वनधितिरपस्यात्सूरो अध्वरे परि रोधना गोः । यद्ध प्रभासि कृत्व्याँ अनु द्यूननर्विशे पश्विषे तुराय
When, in the forest, the blazing one, the sun, at the sacrifice, passed around the enclosure of the cow; when you shine forth with your deeds, following the days, O man, for the cattle, for strength.
अष्टा महो दिव आदो हरी इह द्युम्नासाहमभि योधान उत्सम् । हरिं यत्ते मन्दिनं दुक्षन्वृधे गोरभसमद्रिभिर्वाताप्यम्
Eight from the great heaven, the bays, here, full of splendor, have come to the contest at the fountain. The bay one, your exhilarating draught, they milked for the increase of the cow, the calf, to be mixed with the stones.
त्वमायसं प्रति वर्तयो गोर्दिवो अश्मानमुपनीतमृभ्वा । कुत्साय यत्र पुरुहूत वन्वञ्छुष्णमनन्तैः परियासि वधैः
You turned back the iron one, the path of the cow, the stone brought by the skillful ones from heaven. There, for Kutsa, O much-invoked, you subdued Shushna with endless weapons, you went around with slayings.
पुरा यत्सूरस्तमसो अपीतेस्तमद्रिवः फलिगं हेतिमस्य । शुष्णस्य चित्परिहितं यदोजो दिवस्परि सुग्रथितं तदादः
When, in ancient times, the sun, having passed beyond the darkness, O stone-splitter, broke the cloud, the missile of him; even that which was hidden of Shushna's strength, you, O god, struck down, well-bound above the sky.
अनु त्वा मही पाजसी अचक्रे द्यावाक्षामा मदतामिन्द्र कर्मन् । त्वं वृत्रमाशयानं सिरासु महो वज्रेण सिष्वपो वराहुम्
After you, O mighty one, the great powers have moved; heaven and earth have rejoiced in your deed, O Indra. You, with the great thunderbolt, struck down Vritra lying in the channels, you shattered the stronghold.
त्वमिन्द्र नर्यो याँ अवो नॄन्तिष्ठा वातस्य सुयुजो वहिष्ठान् । यं ते काव्य उशना मन्दिनं दाद्वृत्रहणं पार्यं ततक्ष वज्रम्
You, O Indra, are the leader of men, the helper of men, the best charioteer of the wind. The wise Kavi, Ushanas, fashioned for you the exhilarating, protective thunderbolt for the slaying of Vritra.
त्वं सूरो हरितो रामयो नॄन्भरच्चक्रमेतशो नायमिन्द्र । प्रास्य पारं नवतिं नाव्यानामपि कर्तमवर्तयोऽयज्यून्
You, O sun, with the bay steeds, bring forth the men, you turn the wheel, O Indra, the driver. You carried across ninety ships, you turned back the unoffered, the unyoked.
त्वं नो अस्या इन्द्र दुर्हणायाः पाहि वज्रिवो दुरितादभीके । प्र नो वाजान्रथ्यो अश्वबुध्यानिषे यन्धि श्रवसे सूनृतायै
You, O Indra, protect us from this difficulty, O wielder of the thunderbolt, from distress and danger. Lead us to strength, to chariot-fame, to the awakening of horses; grant us glory and fair praise.
मा सा ते अस्मत्सुमतिर्वि दसद्वाजप्रमहः समिषो वरन्त । आ नो भज मघवन्गोष्वर्यो मंहिष्ठास्ते सधमादः स्याम
May your favor not depart from us, O generous one, may the seekers find the prize. Grant us, O Maghavan, wealth in cattle; may we be among those who share the grandest feast with you.
