This, the best of lights, has come forth among lights; the brilliant, far-seeing one is born, shining. As the offspring of Savitar is born for activity, so Night approaches the womb of Dawn.
She comes, bright with bright calves, shining white; the black abodes of her are set apart. Sisters of equal kin, immortal, closely joined, Heaven and Earth move with their differing colors.
Their path is the same, the sisters' is endless; each moves in her own way, guided by the gods. They do not clash, nor do they stand still together; Night and Dawn, differing in form, are of one mind.
Radiant leader of good words, she approaches, wondrous, as if bringing home the cattle. The active one has set all the worlds in motion; Dawn has awakened all beings.

She follows the paths of those who have gone before, she is the first of the eternal ones who come. Dawning, she awakens the living, and, as it were, rouses someone who was dead.
O Dawn, when you have kindled the fire for the offering, when you have opened the eye of the sun, when you have awakened men who were sleeping, then you have made good fortune among the gods.

How many of her appointed times have passed, how many have dawned and how many now will dawn? Following the earlier ones, she is eager to shine, and, radiant, she proceeds in harmony with the others.
Those mortals who saw the earlier dawns have gone forth, and now we behold the dawning Ushas. Let us also look upon her, for those who see her in later days will also go their way.

Dispelling hatred, upholding truth, shining with righteousness, bringing pleasantness and fair speech, bearing auspiciousness, O goddess, best of dawns, shine forth for us here.
The goddess has always awakened the days before, and today this generous one has spread the light. Now, as she dawns, she follows the days to come; ageless and immortal, she moves by her own laws.
With her rays she has uncovered the darkness from the sky; the goddess has driven away the blackness. With her reddish horses she awakens, Ushas comes with her well-yoked chariot.

Rise up, the living one has come, the sun has ascended, the darkness has departed, the light advances. The path is made clear for the sun to travel; we have come to where life is renewed.
The inspired one raises his voice with praise, the singer exults at the shining dawns. Today, O generous one, shine forth for the one who praises; grant us a long life filled with offspring.
Those Dawns, rich in cattle and full of heroes, shine forth for the worshipping mortal. Like the gifts of the wind, their blessings are abundant; may they grant horses and the enjoyment of Soma.
Mother of the gods, face of Aditi, sign of the sacrifice, great one, shine forth. Creator of praise for the priest, dawn for us; grant offspring to our people, O all-encompassing one.
Whatever splendid gift you bring, O Dawns, for the knowing and the longing one, may Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, the earth, and the sky not withhold it from us.
To Rudra, the mighty, with braided hair, the one who brings prosperity to his people, we offer our prayers, so that he may bring peace to all—two-footed and four-footed—in this community, and keep all nourished and free from harm.
Be gracious to us, O Rudra, make us happy; to the one who brings prosperity to his people, we offer worship with reverence. Whatever favor Manu, our father, sought and obtained, may we enjoy that through your guidance, O Rudra.
May we obtain your good will through our worship, O Rudra, giver of prosperity, most gracious. Bringing us happiness, keep our households safe; we offer you this oblation for protection.
We call upon Rudra, fierce, wise, and helpful in sacrifice, for aid. May the divine wrath be far from us; we choose his good favor and kindness.
We call with reverence upon the boar of the sky, the red one with braided hair, fierce in form. Holding healing remedies in his hand, may he grant us shelter, armor, and protection.
