इन्द्रं कुत्सो वृत्रहणं शचीपतिं काटे निबाळ्ह ऋषिरह्वदूतये । रथं न दुर्गाद्वसवः सुदानवो विश्वस्मान्नो अंहसो निष्पिपर्तन
Kutsa, the sage, has called upon Indra, slayer of Vritra and lord of power, for help at Kāṭa; O generous Vasus, deliver us from every distress as a chariot is freed from difficulty.
देवैर्नो देव्यदितिर्नि पातु देवस्त्राता त्रायतामप्रयुच्छन् । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः
May the goddess Aditi protect us with the gods; may the god guardian shield us without delay. Let Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, the earth, and the sky not harm us.
यज्ञो देवानां प्रत्येति सुम्नमादित्यासो भवता मृळयन्तः । आ वोऽर्वाची सुमतिर्ववृत्यादंहोश्चिद्या वरिवोवित्तरासत्
The sacrifice approaches the favor of the gods; O Adityas, be merciful. May your graciousness come near to us, and grant us the path to overcome hardship.
उप नो देवा अवसा गमन्त्वङ्गिरसां सामभि स्तूयमानाः । इन्द्र इन्द्रियैर्मरुतो मरुद्भिरादित्यैर्नो अदितिः शर्म यंसत्
May the gods come to us with their aid, praised by the songs of the Angirasas. Indra with his powers, the Maruts with their company, and Aditi with the Adityas, grant us protection.
तन्न इन्द्रस्तद्वरुणस्तदग्निस्तदर्यमा तत्सविता चनो धात् । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः
May Indra, Varuna, Agni, Aryaman, and Savitar grant this to us. Let Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, the earth, and the sky not harm us.
य इन्द्राग्नी चित्रतमो रथो वामभि विश्वानि भुवनानि चष्टे । तेना यातं सरथं तस्थिवांसाथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
O Indra and Agni, your splendid chariot surveys all the worlds. With it, come together, stand firm, and drink the pressed Soma.
यावदिदं भुवनं विश्वमस्त्युरुव्यचा वरिमता गभीरम् । तावाँ अयं पातवे सोमो अस्त्वरमिन्द्राग्नी मनसे युवभ्याम्
As vast and deep as this entire world is, so is this Soma prepared for your drinking, O Indra and Agni, for your delight.
चक्राथे हि सध्र्यङ्नाम भद्रं सध्रीचीना वृत्रहणा उत स्थः । ताविन्द्राग्नी सध्र्यञ्चा निषद्या वृष्णः सोमस्य वृषणा वृषेथाम्
You have made your names together auspicious, and together you are slayers of Vritra. So, Indra and Agni, sit together and drink the strong Soma, you mighty ones.
समिद्धेष्वग्निष्वानजाना यतस्रुचा बर्हिरु तिस्तिराणा । तीव्रैः सोमैः परिषिक्तेभिरर्वागेन्द्राग्नी सौमनसाय यातम्
When the fires are kindled and the offering ladle is ready, and the sacred grass is spread, come, O Indra and Agni, for joy, surrounded by strong Soma.
यानीन्द्राग्नी चक्रथुर्वीर्याणि यानि रूपाण्युत वृष्ण्यानि । या वां प्रत्नानि सख्या शिवानि तेभिः सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
Whatever heroic deeds, forms, and mighty acts you, Indra and Agni, have performed, and whatever ancient, auspicious friendships you have, with them drink the pressed Soma.
यदब्रवं प्रथमं वां वृणानोऽयं सोमो असुरैर्नो विहव्यः । तां सत्यां श्रद्धामभ्या हि यातमथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
When I first chose you, I said: 'This Soma is to be invoked by us with the lords.' Come, trusting in that truth, and drink the pressed Soma.
यदिन्द्राग्नी मदथः स्वे दुरोणे यद्ब्रह्मणि राजनि वा यजत्रा । अतः परि वृषणावा हि यातमथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
Whatever joy you, Indra and Agni, have found in your own home, or in the king's sacred rite, come from there, you mighty ones, and drink the pressed Soma.
यदिन्द्राग्नी यदुषु तुर्वशेषु यद्द्रुह्युष्वनुषु पूरुषु स्थः । अतः परि वृषणावा हि यातमथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
Wherever you, Indra and Agni, are among the Yadus, Turvashas, Druhyus, Anus, or Purus, come from there, you mighty ones, and drink the pressed Soma.
यदिन्द्राग्नी अवमस्यां पृथिव्यां मध्यमस्यां परमस्यामुत स्थः । अतः परि वृषणावा हि यातमथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
Wherever you, Indra and Agni, are on the lowest, middle, or highest earth, come from there, you mighty ones, and drink the pressed Soma.
यदिन्द्राग्नी परमस्यां पृथिव्यां मध्यमस्यामवमस्यामुत स्थः । अतः परि वृषणावा हि यातमथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
Wherever you, Indra and Agni, are on the highest, middle, or lowest earth, come from there, you mighty ones, and drink the pressed Soma.
यदिन्द्राग्नी दिवि ष्ठो यत्पृथिव्यां यत्पर्वतेष्वोषधीष्वप्सु । अतः परि वृषणावा हि यातमथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
Wherever you, Indra and Agni, are in the sky, on earth, among mountains, plants, or waters, come from there, you mighty ones, and drink the pressed Soma.
यदिन्द्राग्नी उदिता सूर्यस्य मध्ये दिवः स्वधया मादयेथे । अतः परि वृषणावा हि यातमथा सोमस्य पिबतं सुतस्य
Wherever you, Indra and Agni, rejoice in the rising of the sun, in the midst of heaven, by your own power, come from there, you mighty ones, and drink the pressed Soma.
एवेन्द्राग्नी पपिवांसा सुतस्य विश्वास्मभ्यं सं जयतं धनानि । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः
Thus, Indra and Agni, having drunk the pressed Soma, may you win all treasures for us. Let Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, the earth, and the sky not harm us.
वि ह्यख्यं मनसा वस्य इच्छन्निन्द्राग्नी ज्ञास उत वा सजातान् । नान्या युवत्प्रमतिरस्ति मह्यं स वां धियं वाजयन्तीमतक्षम्
For I seek to know, with my mind desiring wealth, O Indra and Agni, both what is manifest and what is hidden; there is no other delight for me as dear as you. So I have shaped for you a thought that brings strength.
अश्रवं हि भूरिदावत्तरा वां विजामातुरुत वा घा स्यालात् । अथा सोमस्य प्रयती युवभ्यामिन्द्राग्नी स्तोमं जनयामि नव्यम्
For I have heard of your abundant giving, whether from the offspring of the wise or perhaps from others; therefore, with Soma pressed, I now generate a new hymn of praise for you, Indra and Agni.
मा च्छेद्म रश्मीँरिति नाधमानाः पितॄणां शक्तीरनुयच्छमानाः । इन्द्राग्निभ्यां कं वृषणो मदन्ति ता ह्यद्री धिषणाया उपस्थे
Let us not cut off the reins, as if falling short, while following the powers of our fathers; the mighty ones, Indra and Agni, delight in whom? For those stones are indeed at the lap of the altar.
युवाभ्यां देवी धिषणा मदायेन्द्राग्नी सोममुशती सुनोति । तावश्विना भद्रहस्ता सुपाणी आ धावतं मधुना पृङ्क्तमप्सु
By you two, O Indra and Agni, the divine altar, longing for intoxication, presses the Soma; you two, O Ashvins, with auspicious hands and fair palms, come running and mix it with sweetness in the waters.
युवामिन्द्राग्नी वसुनो विभागे तवस्तमा शुश्रव वृत्रहत्ये । तावासद्या बर्हिषि यज्ञे अस्मिन्प्र चर्षणी मादयेथां सुतस्य
You two, Indra and Agni, have been heard of as the most powerful in the division of wealth and in the slaying of Vritra; so, seated on the sacred grass at this sacrifice, delight yourselves in the pressed Soma among the people.
प्र चर्षणिभ्यः पृतनाहवेषु प्र पृथिव्या रिरिचाथे दिवश्च । प्र सिन्धुभ्यः प्र गिरिभ्यो महित्वा प्रेन्द्राग्नी विश्वा भुवनात्यन्या
You shine forth for the peoples in battles, you spread over the earth and the sky; you excel among rivers and mountains, O Indra and Agni, surpassing all the worlds in greatness.
आ भरतं शिक्षतं वज्रबाहू अस्माँ इन्द्राग्नी अवतं शचीभिः । इमे नु ते रश्मयः सूर्यस्य येभिः सपित्वं पितरो न आसन्
Come, teach and guide us, O wielders of the thunderbolt; protect us, Indra and Agni, with your powers. These are your rays, O Sun, by which our fathers attained kinship with you.
पुरंदरा शिक्षतं वज्रहस्तास्माँ इन्द्राग्नी अवतं भरेषु । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः
O destroyers of cities, teach us, O thunderbolt-handed ones; protect us, Indra and Agni, in battles. May Mitra, Varuna, Aditi, the river, the earth, and the sky not harm us.
ततं मे अपस्तदु तायते पुनः स्वादिष्ठा धीतिरुचथाय शस्यते । अयं समुद्र इह विश्वदेव्यः स्वाहाकृतस्य समु तृप्णुत ऋभवः
My prayer has been stretched out, and it protects me again; the sweetest thought is praised for the hymn. This is the ocean, here for all the gods; O Ribhus, be satisfied with the offering made with 'svaha.'
आभोगयं प्र यदिच्छन्त ऐतनापाकाः प्राञ्चो मम के चिदापयः । सौधन्वनासश्चरितस्य भूमनागच्छत सवितुर्दाशुषो गृहम्
When they wish to enjoy the abundance, some of my waters flow away, turned aside; O Ribhus of the Sudhanvanas, come with greatness to the house of the worshipper of Savitar.
तत्सविता वोऽमृतत्वमासुवदगोह्यं यच्छ्रवयन्त ऐतन । त्यं चिच्चमसमसुरस्य भक्षणमेकं सन्तमकृणुता चतुर्वयम्
May Savitar grant you immortality, the hidden thing that you have made known; you even made one drinking cup of the god into four, though it was only one.
विष्ट्वी शमी तरणित्वेन वाघतो मर्तासः सन्तो अमृतत्वमानशुः । सौधन्वना ऋभवः सूरचक्षसः संवत्सरे समपृच्यन्त धीतिभिः
Though mortal, they attained immortality by their skill and swiftness; the Ribhus of the Sudhanvanas, with the vision of the sun, were questioned together in a year by their thoughts.
