प्र सूनव ऋभूणां बृहन्नवन्त वृजना । क्षामा ये विश्वधायसोऽश्नन्धेनुं न मातरम्
Let the sons of the Ṛbhus, great and victorious, come forth; who, all-providing, have enjoyed the earth like a cow her mother.
प्र देवं देव्या धिया भरता जातवेदसम् । हव्या नो वक्षदानुषक्
With the devotion of the goddess, bring the god Jātavedas; may he carry our offerings in order.
अयमु ष्य प्र देवयुर्होता यज्ञाय नीयते । रथो न योरभीवृतो घृणीवाञ्चेतति त्मना
This priest, devoted to the gods, is led forth for the sacrifice; like a chariot, well-yoked, shining, he moves by his own will.
अयमग्निरुरुष्यत्यमृतादिव जन्मनः । सहसश्चित्सहीयान्देवो जीवातवे कृतः
This Agni grows wide, as if from immortal birth; the god, made for life, is stronger even than strength.
पतंगमक्तमसुरस्य मायया हृदा पश्यन्ति मनसा विपश्चितः । समुद्रे अन्तः कवयो वि चक्षते मरीचीनां पदमिच्छन्ति वेधसः
The wise perceive the winged one, covered by the Asura's magic, with their heart and mind; within the ocean, the sages behold him, seeking the path of the rays, the track of the Creator.
पतंगो वाचं मनसा बिभर्ति तां गन्धर्वोऽवदद्गर्भे अन्तः । तां द्योतमानां स्वर्यं मनीषामृतस्य पदे कवयो नि पान्ति
The winged one bears speech in his mind; the Gandharva declared it within the womb; the shining, heavenly wisdom, the sages guard at the seat of immortality.
अपश्यं गोपामनिपद्यमानमा च परा च पथिभिश्चरन्तम् । स सध्रीचीः स विषूचीर्वसान आ वरीवर्ति भुवनेष्वन्तः
I saw the herdsman, not falling, moving on both paths, wandering; he, clothed alike and differently, turns within the worlds.
त्यमू षु वाजिनं देवजूतं सहावानं तरुतारं रथानाम् । अरिष्टनेमिं पृतनाजमाशुं स्वस्तये तार्क्ष्यमिहा हुवेम
Let us call here for well-being that Tārkṣya, the strong, god-sent, victorious, swiftest of chariots, with unbroken wheel-rims, conqueror in battle.
इन्द्रस्येव रातिमाजोहुवानाः स्वस्तये नावमिवा रुहेम । उर्वी न पृथ्वी बहुले गभीरे मा वामेतौ मा परेतौ रिषाम
Desiring well-being, let us call for Indra's favor; let us cross over like a ship; may the broad, deep earth not harm us, neither here nor beyond.
सद्यश्चिद्यः शवसा पञ्च कृष्टीः सूर्य इव ज्योतिषापस्ततान । सहस्रसाः शतसा अस्य रंहिर्न स्मा वरन्ते युवतिं न शर्याम्
He who at once with his might spread out the five peoples with light like the sun; his abundance is in thousands and hundreds, never failing, like a youthful maiden at the contest.
उत्तिष्ठताव पश्यतेन्द्रस्य भागमृत्वियम् । यदि श्रातो जुहोतन यद्यश्रातो ममत्तन
Arise, look upon the portion of Indra, O priests; whether you are prepared, offer, or if unprepared, desire it.
श्रातं हविरो ष्विन्द्र प्र याहि जगाम सूरो अध्वनो विमध्यम् । परि त्वासते निधिभिः सखायः कुलपा न व्राजपतिं चरन्तम्
Hear the offering, O Indra, come forth; the sun has traversed the path, reaching the midst. Around you, friends gather with treasures, as householders around the lord of the clan moving among them.
श्रातं मन्य ऊधनि श्रातमग्नौ सुश्रातं मन्ये तदृतं नवीयः । माध्यंदिनस्य सवनस्य दध्नः पिबेन्द्र वज्रिन्पुरुकृज्जुषाणः
I deem the offering pure in the vessel, pure in the fire, and most pure in the newest rite of truth. Drink, O Indra, wielder of the bolt, delighting in the midday pressing of the curdled soma.
प्र ससाहिषे पुरुहूत शत्रूञ्ज्येष्ठस्ते शुष्म इह रातिरस्तु । इन्द्रा भर दक्षिणेना वसूनि पतिः सिन्धूनामसि रेवतीनाम्
O much-invoked, you have overcome enemies; may your greatest strength bring us gifts here. Indra, bring us riches with your right hand; you are the lord of the rivers, the possessor of wealth.
मृगो न भीमः कुचरो गिरिष्ठाः परावत आ जगन्था परस्याः । सृकं संशाय पविमिन्द्र तिग्मं वि शत्रून्ताळ्हि वि मृधो नुदस्व
Like a fearsome beast roaming the mountains, you have come from afar, from distant lands. Grasp the sharp-edged thunderbolt, O Indra, and shatter the enemies, drive away the hostilities.
इन्द्र क्षत्रमभि वाममोजोऽजायथा वृषभ चर्षणीनाम् । अपानुदो जनममित्रयन्तमुरुं देवेभ्यो अकृणोरु लोकम्
Indra, you were born with supreme power and might, O bull among peoples. You have driven away the unfriendly race, you have made a broad space for the gods.
प्रथश्च यस्य सप्रथश्च नामानुष्टुभस्य हविषो हविर्यत् । धातुर्द्युतानात्सवितुश्च विष्णो रथंतरमा जभारा वसिष्ठः
He whose name is both Pratha and Sapratha, of the Anuṣṭubh meter, whose offering is the oblation—Vasiṣṭha bore away the Rathantara from the brilliance of Dhātar, Savitṛ, and Viṣṇu.
अविन्दन्ते अतिहितं यदासीद्यज्ञस्य धाम परमं गुहा यत् । धातुर्द्युतानात्सवितुश्च विष्णोर्भरद्वाजो बृहदा चक्रे अग्नेः
They discovered what was set beyond, the highest abode of the sacrifice, hidden in secrecy. Bharadvāja fashioned the Bṛhat from the brilliance of Dhātar, Savitṛ, and Viṣṇu, for Agni.
तेऽविन्दन्मनसा दीध्याना यजु ष्कन्नं प्रथमं देवयानम् । धातुर्द्युतानात्सवितुश्च विष्णोरा सूर्यादभरन्घर्ममेते
They found, with shining mind, the first divine path, woven with yajus formulas. From the brilliance of Dhātar, Savitṛ, and Viṣṇu, they brought forth the hot libation from the sun.
बृहस्पतिर्नयतु दुर्गहा तिरः पुनर्नेषदघशंसाय मन्म । क्षिपदशस्तिमप दुर्मतिं हन्नथा करद्यजमानाय शं योः
May Bṛhaspati lead us across the difficult places, may he bring us back again, far from the curse of evil speech. May he strike down hostility, remove ill intent, and grant well-being to the worshiper.
नराशंसो नोऽवतु प्रयाजे शं नो अस्त्वनुयाजो हवेषु । क्षिपदशस्तिमप दुर्मतिं हन्नथा करद्यजमानाय शं योः
May Nārāśaṃsa protect us at the first offering, may well-being be ours at the concluding oblation and in the invocations. May he strike down hostility, remove ill intent, and grant well-being to the worshiper.
तपुर्मूर्धा तपतु रक्षसो ये ब्रह्मद्विषः शरवे हन्तवा उ । क्षिपदशस्तिमप दुर्मतिं हन्नथा करद्यजमानाय शं योः
Let the blazing head burn the demons, those who hate the sacred word, to be struck down by the arrow. May he strike down hostility, remove ill intent, and grant well-being to the worshiper.
अपश्यं त्वा मनसा चेकितानं तपसो जातं तपसो विभूतम् । इह प्रजामिह रयिं रराणः प्र जायस्व प्रजया पुत्रकाम
I have seen you with my mind, discerning, born of austerity, radiant with austerity. Here, grant offspring, here grant wealth; beget children for the one who desires a son.
अपश्यं त्वा मनसा दीध्यानां स्वायां तनू ऋत्व्ये नाधमानाम् । उप मामुच्चा युवतिर्बभूयाः प्र जायस्व प्रजया पुत्रकामे
I have seen you with my mind, shining in your own form, not falling from the season. May the young woman approach me; beget children for the one who desires a son.
अहं गर्भमदधामोषधीष्वहं विश्वेषु भुवनेष्वन्तः । अहं प्रजा अजनयं पृथिव्यामहं जनिभ्यो अपरीषु पुत्रान्
I have placed the embryo in the plants, I have placed it within all the worlds. I have generated offspring on earth, I have given sons to the women.
विष्णुर्योनिं कल्पयतु त्वष्टा रूपाणि पिंशतु । आ सिञ्चतु प्रजापतिर्धाता गर्भं दधातु ते
May Viṣṇu prepare the womb, may Tvaṣṭṛ fashion the forms, may Prajāpati pour in, may Dhātṛ place the embryo within you.
गर्भं धेहि सिनीवालि गर्भं धेहि सरस्वति । गर्भं ते अश्विनौ देवावा धत्तां पुष्करस्रजा
Sinīvālī, place the embryo; Sarasvatī, place the embryo; may the two divine Aśvins, adorned with lotus garlands, place the embryo within you.
हिरण्ययी अरणी यं निर्मन्थतो अश्विना । तं ते गर्भं हवामहे दशमे मासि सूतवे
The golden fire-stick which you, O Aśvins, have churned—may we invoke that embryo for you, to be born in the tenth month.
महि त्रीणामवोऽस्तु द्युक्षं मित्रस्यार्यम्णः । दुराधर्षं वरुणस्य
May there be great aid from the three, the shining one of heaven, from Mitra and Aryaman, and the invincible Varuṇa.
नहि तेषाममा चन नाध्वसु वारणेषु । ईशे रिपुरघशंसः
For them, there is no enemy at all, neither on the paths nor at the crossings; the evil-wisher has no power over them.
