He saw this, something else, unaging, of the immortal world and being. The great-winged Garutmat, the eagle of Savitar, was born before; he alone follows his law.
Like cows to the herd, like horses to the yoke, like a loving ewe to her lamb, may the upholder of heaven, Savitar, all-possessing, bring us together as a husband with his wife.
Golden-pillared Savitar, just as the Angirases have invoked you for strength, so I, praising you, seeking help, keep watch for you as one keeps watch for the Soma's drop.
Even when kindled, you blaze forth, O carrier of offerings to the gods. Come to us with the Adityas, Rudras, and Vasus; come to us for mercy, come for mercy.
Accept this sacrifice, accept this speech, and come near. Mortals, kindling you, call upon you for mercy, we call upon you for mercy.
You, Jatavedas, all-possessing, I praise with thought. O Agni, bring the gods to us, those who delight in offerings, for mercy, those who delight in offerings.
Agni became the priest of the gods; men and seers have kindled Agni. I call upon Agni, the bringer of great wealth, for mercy, for the gaining of wealth.
Agni protected Atri, Bharadvaja, Gavisthira for us, Kanva, and Trasadasyu in battle. Vasistha, the priest, calls upon Agni for mercy, the priest for mercy.
With faith Agni is kindled; with faith the offering is made. With words we declare faith on the head of Bhaga.
O Faith, what is given with faith is dear, what is sought with faith is dear. Among those who enjoy, among those who sacrifice, let this be spoken for me.
As the gods placed faith among the mighty Asuras, so among those who enjoy, among those who sacrifice, let this be spoken for us.
The gods, the sacrificers, protected by Vayu, worship faith. With the heart's intention, with faith, one finds wealth.
We call upon faith in the morning, we call upon faith at midday. At the setting of the sun, O Faith, bring us to faith.
He commands thus, great, devourer of foes, wondrous one. His friend is never slain, never defeated at any time.
The lord of the people, giver of welfare, slayer of Vritra, subduer of foes, mighty Indra, let him come to us, drinker of Soma, bringer of fearlessness.
Scatter the demon, scatter the foe, break the jaws of the Vṛtra; scatter, O Indra, slayer of Vṛtra, the wrath of the hostile one who assails us.
Scatter for us, Indra, the foe; cast down the assailant; whoever attacks us, send him down to the lower darkness.
Drive away, Indra, the mind of the hater, drive away the intent of the one seeking to harm; grant us shelter from wrath, greater protection, and ward off the blow.
Longing, the women approach the born Indra, seeking him; they, desiring, seek heroic strength.
You, Indra, have taken strength from power at birth; you, O mighty one, are truly mighty.
You, Indra, are the slayer of Vṛtra; you have surpassed the midspace; you have upheld the sky with your might.
You, Indra, bear the thunderbolt together with your arms, united in force, brandishing the weapon with your strength.
You, Indra, are all-conquering; by your strength, all beings are; you are the source of all existences.
Soma is purified for some, clarified butter is worshipped by another; for whom honey flows forth, may they all indeed go to the gods.
Those who are invincible through austerity, those who have attained heaven through austerity, those who have performed great austerity—may they all indeed go to the gods.
Those who fight in battles, the heroes, those who have sacrificed their bodies, or those who have given thousands in gifts—may they all indeed go to the gods.
Those who, even before, were followers of truth, who are truthful, who grow in truth, the ancestors who, through austerity, went to Yama—may they all indeed go to the gods.
The poets who have a thousand paths, who guard the sun, the seers who, through austerity, went to Yama—may they, born of austerity, also go to the gods.
O hostile one, O one-eyed, O deformed, go to the mountain, to the constant forest; with the spirits of Śirimbiṭha, with them we drive you away.
Depart from here, depart from there, all red-hued embryos; O Brahmaṇaspati, strike the hostile one with your sharp-horned ox.
