व्यूर्ण्वती दिवो अन्ताँ अबोध्यप स्वसारं सनुतर्युयोति । प्रमिनती मनुष्या युगानि योषा जारस्य चक्षसा वि भाति
Unfolding the ends of the sky, she has awakened; she sends away her sister, the night; measuring the ages of men, the maiden shines with the glance of a lover.
पशून्न चित्रा सुभगा प्रथाना सिन्धुर्न क्षोद उर्विया व्यश्वैत् । अमिनती दैव्यानि व्रतानि सूर्यस्य चेति रश्मिभिर्दृशाना
Splendid, fortunate, she spreads out like cattle, like a river in her vastness she flows; observing the divine laws, she moves with the rays of the sun, ever visible.
उषस्तच्चित्रमा भरास्मभ्यं वाजिनीवति । येन तोकं च तनयं च धामहे
O Dawn, bring us that splendid wealth, full of horses, by which we may support our offspring and descendants.
उषो अद्येह गोमत्यश्वावति विभावरि । रेवदस्मे व्युच्छ सूनृतावति
O Dawn, shine forth today here, in this place rich in cows and horses; rise for us, bringing wealth and good speech.
युक्ष्वा हि वाजिनीवत्यश्वाँ अद्यारुणाँ उषः । अथा नो विश्वा सौभगान्या वह
Yoke now your chariot, rich in horses, with the red steeds, O Dawn; then bring to us all good fortunes.
अश्विना वर्तिरस्मदा गोमद्दस्रा हिरण्यवत् । अर्वाग्रथं समनसा नि यच्छतम्
O Ashvins, leaders of our path, bestowers of cows, givers of gold, bring your chariot near to us with united mind.
यावित्था श्लोकमा दिवो ज्योतिर्जनाय चक्रथुः । आ न ऊर्जं वहतमश्विना युवम्
As far as you have made the song and the light in the sky for the people, O Aśvins, bring us nourishment.
एह देवा मयोभुवा दस्रा हिरण्यवर्तनी । उषर्बुधो वहन्तु सोमपीतये
Here, O divine, wondrous ones with golden wheels, let the dawns bring forth the awakened for the drinking of Soma.
अग्नीषोमाविमं सु मे शृणुतं वृषणा हवम् । प्रति सूक्तानि हर्यतं भवतं दाशुषे मयः
O Agni and Soma, strong ones, kindly hear this call of mine; delight in these hymns and grant joy to the worshipper.
अग्नीषोमा यो अद्य वामिदं वचः सपर्यति । तस्मै धत्तं सुवीर्यं गवां पोषं स्वश्व्यम्
O Agni and Soma, to the one who today offers you this praise, grant heroic strength, abundance of cattle, and good horses.
अग्नीषोमा य आहुतिं यो वां दाशाद्धविष्कृतिम् । स प्रजया सुवीर्यं विश्वमायुर्व्यश्नवत्
O Agni and Soma, whoever offers you the oblation or the sacrificial gift, let him attain offspring, heroic strength, and a full lifespan.
अग्नीषोमा चेति तद्वीर्यं वां यदमुष्णीतमवसं पणिं गाः । अवातिरतं बृसयस्य शेषोऽविन्दतं ज्योतिरेकं बहुभ्यः
O Agni and Soma, this is your heroic deed: when you rescued the cows from the demon Paṇi; you released the remainder of the mighty one and found the single light among the many.
युवमेतानि दिवि रोचनान्यग्निश्च सोम सक्रतू अधत्तम् । युवं सिन्धूँरभिशस्तेरवद्यादग्नीषोमावमुञ्चतं गृभीतान्
You two, O Agni and Soma, along with Indra, have established these shining regions in the sky; you set free the rivers seized by the oppressor, protecting them from harm.
आन्यं दिवो मातरिश्वा जभारामथ्नादन्यं परि श्येनो अद्रेः । अग्नीषोमा ब्रह्मणा वावृधानोरुं यज्ञाय चक्रथुरु लोकम्
One of them Mātariśvan brought down from the sky, another the falcon seized from the rock; O Agni and Soma, you grew through the sacred word and made a wide space for the sacrifice.
अग्नीषोमा हविषः प्रस्थितस्य वीतं हर्यतं वृषणा जुषेथाम् । सुशर्माणा स्ववसा हि भूतमथा धत्तं यजमानाय शं योः
O Agni and Soma, accept with delight the libation that is offered; with your good protection and favor, grant well-being to the worshipper.
यो अग्नीषोमा हविषा सपर्याद्देवद्रीचा मनसा यो घृतेन । तस्य व्रतं रक्षतं पातमंहसो विशे जनाय महि शर्म यच्छतम्
Whoever, with clarified butter and devoted mind, worships you, O Agni and Soma, with the sacred offering—protect his vow, guard him from harm, and grant great shelter to his people.
अग्नीषोमा सवेदसा सहूती वनतं गिरः । सं देवत्रा बभूवथुः
O Agni and Soma, knowing together, accepting the same invocation, you have become united among the gods.
अग्नीषोमावनेन वां यो वां घृतेन दाशति । तस्मै दीदयतं बृहत्
O Agni and Soma, to the one who serves you with this offering or with clarified butter, shine forth greatly for him.
अग्नीषोमाविमानि नो युवं हव्या जुजोषतम् । आ यातमुप नः सचा
O Agni and Soma, may you both be pleased with these offerings of ours; come to us, be present with us.
अग्नीषोमा पिपृतमर्वतो न आ प्यायन्तामुस्रिया हव्यसूदः । अस्मे बलानि मघवत्सु धत्तं कृणुतं नो अध्वरं श्रुष्टिमन्तम्
O Agni and Soma, protect us from the hostile, let the cows increase, O receivers of the offering; grant us strength among the generous, make our ritual successful.
इमं स्तोममर्हते जातवेदसे रथमिव सं महेमा मनीषया । भद्रा हि नः प्रमतिरस्य संसद्यग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
This praise, worthy of you, O Jātavedas, we compose with our thought as one would a chariot; for your favor is auspicious for us—O Agni, may we not suffer harm in your friendship.
यस्मै त्वमायजसे स साधत्यनर्वा क्षेति दधते सुवीर्यम् । स तूताव नैनमश्नोत्यंहतिरग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
For whom you are worshipped, he prospers, remains unvanquished, and receives heroic strength; he is protected, no harm reaches him—O Agni, may we not suffer harm in your friendship.
शकेम त्वा समिधं साधया धियस्त्वे देवा हविरदन्त्याहुतम् । त्वमादित्याँ आ वह तान्ह्युश्मस्यग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
May we, by kindling you, accomplish our prayers; for you, O gods, accept the offered oblation. Bring here the Ādityas, O Agni, for you are eager—may we not suffer harm in your friendship.
भरामेध्मं कृणवामा हवींषि ते चितयन्तः पर्वणापर्वणा वयम् । जीवातवे प्रतरं साधया धियोऽग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
Let us bring fuel, prepare your offerings, and arrange them at each rite; make our prayers successful for long life—O Agni, may we not suffer harm in your friendship.
विशां गोपा अस्य चरन्ति जन्तवो द्विपच्च यदुत चतुष्पदक्तुभिः । चित्रः प्रकेत उषसो महाँ अस्यग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
The creatures of two legs and four, O guardian of the peoples, move about by your ordinances; wondrous is the manifest guidance of the great Dawns. O Agni, may we not come to harm in your friendship.
त्वमध्वर्युरुत होतासि पूर्व्यः प्रशास्ता पोता जनुषा पुरोहितः । विश्वा विद्वाँ आर्त्विज्या धीर पुष्यस्यग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
You are the Adhvaryu, and also the Hotṛ, ancient and foremost; the Praśāstā, the Potā, by birth the household priest. Knowing all the rites, wise one, you prosper them; O Agni, may we not come to harm in your friendship.
यो विश्वतः सुप्रतीकः सदृङ्ङसि दूरे चित्सन्तळिदिवाति रोचसे । रात्र्याश्चिदन्धो अति देव पश्यस्यग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
You, who are fair-faced on every side and well-disposed, shine even from afar, O radiant one; even in the darkness of night, O god, you see beyond. O Agni, may we not come to harm in your friendship.
पूर्वो देवा भवतु सुन्वतो रथोऽस्माकं शंसो अभ्यस्तु दूढ्यः । तदा जानीतोत पुष्यता वचोऽग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
May the chariot of the gods be first for the one who offers the Soma; may our praise reach the worthy one. Then may he know and may the word prosper; O Agni, may we not come to harm in your friendship.
वधैर्दुःशंसाँ अप दूढ्यो जहि दूरे वा ये अन्ति वा के चिदत्रिणः । अथा यज्ञाय गृणते सुगं कृध्यग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
With weapons drive away the ill-wishers, O destroyer, whether they are far or near, whoever they may be, the malicious. Then make the path easy for the one who praises you in the sacrifice; O Agni, may we not come to harm in your friendship.
यदयुक्था अरुषा रोहिता रथे वातजूता वृषभस्येव ते रवः । आदिन्वसि वनिनो धूमकेतुनाग्ने सख्ये मा रिषामा वयं तव
When you have yoked the red and the tawny ones to your chariot, driven by the wind, your roar is like that of a bull. Then you enter the forests with your banner of smoke; O Agni, may we not come to harm in your friendship.
