Soma, the Purifying Sage, is present throughout all the abodes, abiding everywhere with the seasons, encircling creation with his sacred presence. He flows forth in mighty streams, generating abundance and bringing all treasures, ever a friend to friends, coming to their aid. His brilliant rays reach to the very edge of heaven, and with his many abodes, Soma pervades the filter through which he is purified. For Soma, the seven rivers themselves course forth in obedience, and the cows hasten eagerly to him. Soma, pressed and prepared, goes forth in a lively stream, destined for Indra, bringing exhilaration and undiminished fame. Inspired thoughts arise together in song for him, and the seven sisters—the daughters of Vivasvat—urge him onward in his journey. The skilled priests cleanse Soma in the vessel, guiding him as far as the ancient one, and he roars within the wooden press. For him, the swift outpourings of the Purifying One flow like eager horses seeking glory. The inspired thoughts hasten to the honey-dripping vessel, to the unchanging waters, longing for union with Soma. The drops of Soma journey to the ocean, like cows returning to their stable, reaching the very womb of truth. For the sake of great battle, the waters and rivers flow for us, O Indu, as you clothe yourself in the form of cows. Longing for your friendship, O Indu, we seek your aid and companionship. Soma flows for the winning of cows, for greatness, and for the vision of men; he enters Indra’s belly, bestowing strength and victory. Soma is great, the eldest and mightiest among the strong, most vigorous Indu, who triumphs in battle and embraces victory. He is mightier than the mighty, braver than the brave, and more generous than the most bountiful. Soma is the hero, the protector of offspring and bodies; we choose him as our friend and ally. O Agni, purify our lives, grant us strength and nourishment, and drive far away the evil spirits. We invoke Agni, the sage and purifier of the Panchajanas, the revered priest, greatly praised. Agni, purify yourself with wisdom for us; bestow upon us brilliance, heroic strength, wealth, and nourishment. The purified one overcomes all obstacles and advances to glorious praise, like a hero of all-seeing vision. Cleansed by the rites, endowed with vigor, wise and shining, Soma is set for the offering, ever discerning. He generates the great truth and brilliant light, driving away the black darknesses. As Soma dispels darkness, his shining rays stream forth, ever-youthful in their glow despite their ancient origin. He is the best charioteer, radiant among the shining ones, Hari-chandra, leader of the Maruts. Like Vishnu, with his rays, Soma bestows strength and grants heroic power to the hymn. The pressed Soma, Indu, guards the unfailing filter, purifying himself and seeking Indra. Upon the skin of the cows, Soma plays with the stones, inviting Indra for exhilaration. By your glorious, abundant milk, O purified one, brought from heaven, grant us mercy and the fullness of life. You are Soma, the supporter, most delightful and mighty at the sacrifice; purify yourself and bring wealth that gladdens. Pressed, you delight men, bearing the most exhilarating draught, O Soma, wise with your juice for Indra. Well-pressed with the stones, you advance resounding, bringing forth splendid, radiant vigor. The flowing drop moves onward, passing through the unfailing filters; the tawny one calls forth strength. O Soma, you advance through the filters, spreading fame, good fortune, and riches with cattle. Bring to us, O Soma, wealth of a hundred herds, rich in cattle, swift as horses, and abounding in thousands. Purified drops, O Indus, swiftly pass through the filter; with these, they approach Indra for the yoking. The delightful Soma juice, the ancient moon, flows for Indra; life is purified for the one who seeks it. The priests stir the hero, the flowing Soma, sweet with honey, and raise their voices in praise. May Pūṣan, the protector with unyoked horses, guide our journey and feed us among the maidens. This Soma flows for the matted-haired one like clarified butter, sweet and nourishing; may he feed us among the maidens. This pressed Soma for you, O radiant one, flows pure like clarified butter; may he feed us among the maidens.
